Disney revealed its plans for the upcoming Tron coaster-style attraction coming to Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland last July. And as work progresses on the new attraction which will be set next to Space Mountain, there will be some changes around Magic Kingdom to accommodate construction.
The Walt Disney World Railroad will pause its Grand Circle Tours around the park starting December 2018. During the closure, Magic Kingdom guests will be able to take a closer look at the railroad (temporarily taking up residence at the Main Street Station) and “take advantage of one-of-a-kind photo opportunities.”
Additionally, The Tomorrowland Speedway will close for a portion of 2019 to adjust the speedway’s track. It will reopen as the same attraction next summer.
By the way, as a reminder of what’s to come, guests will now be able to spot a Tron-themed billboard from Storybook Circus.
The TRON attraction will make its debut in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
It’s based on the TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland (pictured above), which is the highest-rated attraction in the park.

As long as our Railroad comes back!
Amen, Essie!
But what is the breadbox in the artist’s concept?
MissBianca, that is an existing building called “Tomorrowland Light and Power Company” which is the Space Mountain Exit/Giftshop. 🙂
Can’t wait to ride TRON!!
Hopefully the disgusting smoking section where the tron ride is going goes away as well.
I’m curious if this will be the 3rd non-Pooh friendly ride at Disney… still can’t ride Seven Dwarves (that stupid notch on the seat that separates the thighs – if they took that out, I could fit no problem) or the Flight of Passage… I’m curious if this one will also be a straddle type seat like that one… its sad because Disney has always been the most Pooh friendly, but 2 of the latest rides are only for the skinny… hoping it doesn’t become a trend where all the new rides are going to be like that…
As a non smoker but knows someone who does I would like to comment on the disgusting smoker area, there are few and far between smoking areas smokers also have rights, they pay the same amount as non smokers so they should have a place to go, why don’t you stay away from the smoking ares
i agree with tricia, it seems the new attractions are not so pooh friendly.
i also agree with sharon! there are 2 smoking areas in MK, both are in out of the way spots – its not hard to stay away from them if you want to!
Tricia – if they just build a copy of the ride from Shanghai, it’s seating is nearly identical to Flight of Passage, which does make it more Pooh prohibitive.
Smoking and second hand causes lung cancer among many other issues, not to mention there are people who are actually allergic to smoke. It shouldn’t be at WDW at all. Look, it’s fine if you want to damage your body in your own home, but don’t allow your addiction to carry over to a family friendly place. It’s not disgusting, its damaging.
It is too much construction. Some families save for a lifetime to go. To show up and so much is torn up, It destroys the dream.
If you must, toss in a discount during the worst of times.
