One of my favorite treats at Disney is the home-made ice cream cookie sandwich. If you haven’t tried this yet, be sure to save a meal (yep! a meal!) for this delicious snack.
I know what you’re thinking: “What’s the big deal about an ice cream sandwich?” The big deal for me is that the cookies are freshly made, and they are HUGE. On top of that, the cast members always kindly pile scoop after scoop of vanilla bean ice cream onto the sandwich.
Grab a knife and split one of these between two people…or maybe even three. I promise your sweet tooth will be more than satisfied!
There are five places to get the home-made ice cream sandwich in Disney World: the Main Street Bakery and Sleepy Hollow in the Magic Kingdom, Dino-Bite Snacks in Animal Kingdom, Fountainview Cafe in Epcot, and Hollywood Scoops in Hollywood Studios! Most spots serve only chocolate chip cookies with the sandwich, but the Main Street Bakery has been known to give you the choice of using any type of cookies in the bakery (I’ve often chosen chocolate chip on the bottom and M&M cookie on the top)!
My suggestion: head to Main Street Bakery in the early morning and split the sandwich for breakfast (I know…I’m weird…but it can’t be THAT much worse than a giant cinnamon roll for breakfast, right?), or pop into the Bakery after Wishes and grab an ice cream sandwich while waiting for the Magic Kingdom’s kiss goodnight. It’s a great opportunity for people watching while you wait for the park (and the transportation!) to empty out.
Enjoy!

Can you use a snack credit for this? If so I know what I am having on our next trip!!!
Aj says
Chip! Good to see you! I’m not certain about the snack credit… I shall do some research!

I also like the Ice Cream Sandwiches at the Earl of Sandwich at DTD. They are made from brownies and are amazing!

Grrrr! I wanted one of those so badly the other day when we were in the Magic Kingdom but when we walked by the ice cream shop and went into the bakery I didn’t see it as an option anywhere. I usually get them at the food court at Riverside, but sadly we were staying at Pop Century. 🙁
AJ says
@Sharla: Sounds delicious! Thanks for the tip!
@Erin: No kidding?! Sheesh, they’d better still have them there! Also, thanks for the tip on Riverside!

I like the way you think! That’s a great idea to grab one after Wishes.
AJ says
Ro: It’s a great way to wind down after a day in the parks!

AJ,
What is the Magic Kingdom’s kiss goodnight? I’ve heard of it, but don’t know what it is. I asked a cast member working at The Emporium what it was, when we were there for Wishes and he looked at me like I was out of my mind. I think he thought I was hitting on him… :/ He said, that he’d never heard of it.
I’d love to know so that I don’t have to freak out anymore cm’s!

Yummy! Those are one of my favorite snacks/treats at WDW! Can’t wait to have one when I am there in 8 days!
AJ says
@Stephanie : The “kiss goodnight” happens about 30 min to 1 hour after the Magic Kingdom’s “closing time” (i.e., the written closing time). It takes a while for everyone to exit the park, and if you stick around at the hub for a while, you’ll hear a message over the loudspeaker saying “thank you for visiting the Magic Kingdom, etc…” with When You Wish Upon A Star playing in the background. There’s also a little goodbye from Mickey! Just a small thing, but nice.

That looks delicious! Sorry we missed them when we visited!!! I’m available to be a “taste tester.” 😉

Thanks AJ! Glad to finally know 🙂

This is my family’s absolute favorite snack at Disney World. We usually get it at Dino-Bite Snacks in Animal Kingdom, which also allows the choice of cookie type.
AJ & Chip – you will be happy to know that it can be obtained with only 1 Dining Plan Snack Credit, which makes it an incredible value.
Keep up the great work on your blog!
AJ says
Jamie, thank you! What great info! (And I’m a big fan of your blog as well!)
AJ says
Bridget — me too! I’m always ready to taste-test!

I’ve had this sandwich at Epcot by the America Area where the Hall of Presidents are. We didn’t go and see the presidents but my hubby and I got one of these sandwiches. They are sooooo good!!!!! Oh my gosh I have to say this is one of the most favorite things I ever ate in my life! My husband whenever we have chocolate chip cookies we always say Remember that Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream sandwich we had at Disney World. We were on our Honeymoon and went during Halloween. It was awesome. This was by far the best dessert in the whole world. If I ever go back to Disney World this time with our kids, we will definitely have to eat these again. It will be on the top of our list of things to do!!!! YUM!!!! Nothing beats this!!!! Wonder if there is a recipe floating out there for their cookies and what kind of Ice Cream they use. They probably make their own Ice Cream. Mmmmm, always dream of this sweet treat!

These things are HUGE! Photos really do not put this into perspective. My husband and I grabbed one at the Main St Bakery and were shocked to see the CM putting 3 large scoops of ice cream on the already large and warm cookies. Yum!!! We could not finish ours. Plan to go back and split one with both our boys on the next trip 🙂

You used to be able to get these with any flavor of ice cream available at the Mainstreet Bakery as well. I haven’t had one in a few years because they tried to stop selling the hand-dipped variety (I guess that didn’t go over so well). I wonder if you can still choose your flavor.

We have gotten this from the main street bakery…they are GINOURMOUS!….ice cream was literally almost two inches thick….we each ordered one each(5), could have easily ordered 2 between all us….get ready for a sloppy, dripping exp

Now that Main Street Bakery is Starbucks, and Fountainview Cafe is being converted to Starbucks…
Please update us on where we can still find home made ice cream sandwiches?
Because of this article…
we did try the ice cream sandwich at Hollywood Scoops – it was a big hit in our family!
