Sarah S., who writes several blogs including Kitchen Catastrophes, emailed me recently to see if I’d heard of or seen the “White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This clearly belongs in our “You Won’t Believe This!” snack series! Here’s Sarah’s description:
This is called the White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake and can be found at Disney Animal Kingdom’s Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery. This cupcake really has a WOW factor in its height alone. When we walked away from the counter with this — for brunch, I might add — people were staring and pointing.
The cupcake is make of chocolate cake and topped with a white vanilla cream frosting, which is super sweet but very yummy. The white frosting is topped with toasted coconut, which really adds to the flavor. In the center is a peanut-butter textured frosting that I couldn’t actually place a flavor on, but it was still excellent-tasting and added texture to the entire creation.
The best part of this cupcake is its name-sake: a white chocolate elephant lollipop stuck right into the top! So with this sweet treat you get two snacks for the price of one (the cupcake was $3.99 — the same as the other cupcakes highlighted on the Disney Food Blog). Some Disney cupcakes can be dry but this was moist and rich.
So, this looks pretty Yum, right? I can’t believe I missed this and can’t WAIT to get my very own when I head back to Animal Kingdom. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Sarah!
Our other “You Won’t Believe This!” Snacks are: Chocolate Peanut-Butter Cupcake, Butterfinger Cupcake, Marble Cupcake. Check ’em out and let us know what you think!
Sarah says
Now why don’t they have a pink elephant cupcake in fantasyland, or a heffalump? 🙂
AJ says
Sarah — I love the idea of a pink elephant cupcake in fantasyland 🙂 Or a WOOZLE CUPCAKE! All you bakers out there, what would a Woozle Cupcake look like?! I’m thinking red velvet cake… 😉
Kelly says
That cupcake is ridiculous!
Janna says
That is over the top!
I wonder, however, how the elephant doesn’t melt in the slightly increased temperature and higher humidity of AK. I guess you’d just have to eat the chocolate first…such hardship. LOL
Elizabeth says
I clearly have been neglecting the snack offerings at WDW. I intend to rectify that on my very next trip. I had no idea of the variety of cupcakes there were until you started posting them. WOW!
Ro says
$3.99 for two treats? Sounds like a great deal to me!
AJ says
Kelly — Totally redonk, I agree. But I love me some white chocolate, so I’m still gonna get one! (I wonder if they have other animals…gorillas…tigers…)
Janna — Excellent question…and I have to agree on your theory of eating the chocolate first…
Elizabeth — We’ll head over to Boardwalk Bakery after dinner at the Flying Fish and check out the offerings!
Ro — No kidding! AND I bet you can pay for it with a snack credit…
Carrol says
OMG – Another snack item to add to my list for my next trip. Leaving for the two day drive two weeks tomorrow. Let the countdown begin.
Gina says
I was with Sarah when we discovered this amazing “snack”. OMG this is BY FAR my favorite cupcake on site, it’s sooooo good. You cannot beat chocolate and COCONUT!!!
Lori says
I can’t find it in myself to spend $3.99 on a cupcake. WOW! (We don’t do the dinning plan)
Allison Jones says
Wow! I am on a sugar high just looking at that! Awesome cupcake!
AJ says
Carrol — Your trip is SO SOON! Lucky you! I’m counting down to Disneyland a month from today. Can’t wait to find the “You Won’t Believe This!” snacks there!!
Gina — Thanks for your additional review of the cupcake; now I REALLY wanna try it! Some cupcakes look great, but taste stale or dry or just plain bad. I’m glad to hear these are delicious!
Lori — Think of it as a treat to share with the fam; it’s definitely big enough! 🙂 (Also, I was used to spending $3-ish on cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery in Manhattan as a splurge prior to finding the cupcakes in WDW, so I guess I’ve been “pre-seasoned” for the prices!)
Allison — I know, right?! Looks delish. And elephants are my favorite animal, so it’s even more exciting for me!
Jill says
Wow!!! That thing is huge! I gained 20 lbs. just looking at the picture! LOL
Brandi says
Yum! This is so on my list for our June trip to WDW. It’s just beautiful to look at and I am sure it is delicious! I’m a University of Alabama graduate (Roll Tide!) so I always have a special place in my heart for elephant ‘things.’
Cody says
That looks delish! You had me until you said Coconut… I have NEVEREVER seen this before.. Will have to check out next time in the Animal Kingdom.
Melissa says
I’m going to DAK Saturday…I MUST try this cupcake! It looks phenomenal!
EEFoster says
You need to find the person who thinks this stuff up. Seriously, that would be the best job EVER.
Hedy says
Wow, now that’s a cupcake. I swear, next Disney trp I am just going to be eating cupcakes.
AJ says
Jill — I hear you! Welcome to my Disney world! 😉
Brandi — As I mentioned, Elephants are my favorite animals! Cool!
Cody — Def check it out and let us know if there are other animals!
Melissa — OOH! Yes — let us know how it is!
Erin — No. Kidding. “Disney Food Designer…” I love it.
Hedy — Yep, ya gotta block off a meal or two for “cupcake sampling.”
Ashley W says
I really enjoyed this cupcake…probably not as much as the Red Velvet Cheesecake in DHS, but it was great, nonetheless. And for a snack credit on the DDP, it’s a pretty good deal. I would get it again (but not by myself…)!!!
Bethabee says
We tried this treat in February, 2011 – pretty tasty stuff. Definitely shareable (which makes the price more reasonable). The frosting in the center of the cupcake is a coconut-pecan caramel type, like what you would find on German chocolate cake. Also of note was that they served this cupcake chilled, which actually was a nice touch on a hot Florida afternoon.
Alli says
Are all the snacks featured in “You Won’t Believe This Snack!” eligible for a disney dining snack credit?
AJ says
Alli — Most of them are. 🙂 Anything is subject to change, though.
Emma says
I am so ordering this when i go in November. Counting down the days!
Tracey Hartley says
These are gone…they no longer have them at AK!
Tracey Hartley says
I stand corrected…they do have them but only after 11;30…however when we bought one last Nov. they said they had no elephants for on top as the mold had broken and they were waiting for a new one…anyone know if they got a new mold?
Kelly says
Tracey– they definitely must have gotten a new mold. We bought one in May, and the elephant was included and the same as the photo in this blog.
We bought it maybe around 2pm, got a paper bag for it, and carried it around AK for the rest of the day. It was really hot, but the elephant and the cupcake held up! Ate the cupcake at our resort late that night. So yummy!
The elephant survived the 800+ mile car ride home with us and currently resides in our freezer. 🙂
Essie says
Here I am, late again on another old blog, but I can’t help it. This looks wonderful! I wish I had discovered this blog long ago. This snack looks very good and I can’t believe that it’s the same price as the other fancy cupcakes with the chocolate elephant on it. I’m trying to figure out what kind of food containers I’m going to buy as I really want to take many of these treats home to family who don’t get to the ‘World’. That way at least they can enjoy the WDW treats.
Evie says
Is this in Disney World or Disney Land? Sounds so delicious 🙂
