While many have sampled Coral Reef‘s famous “Chocolate Wave” and Le Cellier‘s deep, dark Whiskey Cake, we wanted to show you three chocolate desserts in Walt Disney World that might be a bit “under the radar”…
Portobello Restaurant, Downtown Disney
This dense, rich confection is called Chocolate Paradise, and is described on the menu as a rich chocolate layer cake with chocolate ganache & toffee crunch. Now, you all know me as a frosting-lover, and while this cake didn’t have much, the moistness of the cake itself nearly made up for it.
Also, rarely is a dessert “too rich” for me, but this one almost did me in. This is absolutely one of the most delicious chocolate cakes I’ve ever had — highly recommended the next time you’re in Downtown Disney. And, don’t worry — I’ll be highlighting my review of Portobello on the blog very soon!
T-Rex, Downtown Disney
So…the Ice Age Indulgence is described as such: Layers of ice cream sandwiches, fudge sauce, whipped cream and Heath Bar Crunch, and it’s intriguing to say the least! It’s the exact dessert you’d have made as a kid if you were left alone in the house with a freezer full of ice cream sandwiches — admit it, you know you would have! And, luckily, that’s the target market for the Ice Age Indulgence: kids. T-Rex (review forthcoming) wasn’t developed with a target market of adults, but the kids are going to love it. Keep this in mind if you try this dessert… đŸ˜‰
Kouzzina, Disney’s Boardwalk
You’ll recall the Chocolate Budino Cake from my Kouzzina Restaurant review — “Warm Molten Chocolate with Whipped Sweet Cream” sounds innocent enough, doesn’t it? But this cake is anything but innocent. It is NOT your standard Disney chocolate cake; the pastry chefs at Kouzzina clearly have a little magic and pixie dust up their sleeves.
I have to quote my restaurant review and say again, “The aroma when I cut into the cake was the precise one I smell when my Dad adds the butter to a bubbling pot of dark chocolate fudge at Christmastime.” Amazing dessert. Simply delicious.
Have you sampled these — or another chocolate dessert you think deserves mention? Let us know in the comments below!

Totally agree about the Chocolate Budino cake at Kouzzina, it is one of the most delicious chocolate anything I have ever had! Have not tried the others, but now, as a certified “chocolholic” I can see that I have a couple other restaurants to try. =)

I am planning to eat at T-Rex next weekend. Since my husband’s palate is on par with that of a kid (LOL), I’m sure he will LOVE the ice cream sandwich dessert.
My mom and I split the appetizer tower (it was very pretty) when we were last at T-Rex. It wasn’t bad – pretty much on par with Chili’s (but more expensive). I look forward to your review!

Janna — Ha ha! Your husband’s gonna love it! Haven’t tried the appetizer tower; will keep that in mind for next time. Can’t believe your trip is coming up so soon!

Thanks, Chris! It was wonderful. We were excited to try Portobello when we read on Scott Joseph’s blog that it was improving. Definitely worth it if you happen to be in DTD.
