This one is going to be hard to top. It might be my favorite “You Won’t Believe This!” Snack to date.
I was knocked off my rocker when I tried this Brownie-Frosting Sandwich today. There’s no other name for it. Earl of Sandwich calls it “The Earl’s Brownie Creme,” but, in my book, it’s a big ol’ Brownie-Frosting Sandwich.
Here’s the basic construction: a huge, circular, rich brownie was cut in half and filled with the most delicious frosting imaginable. First, let’s discuss the brownie: This was the closest thing to home made I’ve ever seen in a Disney baked good. It looked, smelled, and tasted like it had just come out of my oven at home. The crinkly top of the brownie had a crisp texture, while the rest was moist and just slightly crumbly.
Again, tiny chocolate chunks had been worked into the batter to provide little bursts of texture and taste throughout.
I might say this brownie was a bit too crumbly, but luckily the frosting was there to hold everything together. The nice thick layer of vanilla frosting had been piped between the brownie layers, and I’ve been racking my brain to figure out how to describe the taste and texture. Let’s try this: take the hearty, lard-y frosting you find on top of the Butterfinger Cupcake and mix it with the inside of a Cadbury Creme Egg — the frosting still has enough substance to stand on its own, but it’s slightly creamier and less “greasy” than your typical “birthday cake” frosting. And the taste was divine: the super-sweet taste was cut a bit by the vanilla flavor, and it seemed to have more depth of taste. The frosting really added to the overall enjoyment of the snack instead of just serving as a rich, sweet “extra.”
So, I have to say, it might be my favorite of the bunch so far. I highly recommend picking one up on your way through Downtown Disney (they come individually boxed, so you can always pack it for the plane), and if you’re a peanut butter fan…they have one for you, too!!
Such an exciting find, this one! Always looking for new “You Won’t Believe This!” Snacks for the collection!

That looks too fabulous for words!
Jo says
I did see these the last time I was at Earl and I think this is just a little too over the top sugary for me! I do like their plain brownies though!
Jessie says
Oh jeez… just the name “Brownie-Frosting sandwich” made me giggle with delight! 😀 And great job on the frosting description, not an easy thing to put into words. Kudos!
Sara says
Oh I am so glad you discovered this. Earl of Sandwich is one of my fav. restaurants and we were planning to go in May when we are down in FL. I am definitely going to try this brownie when I am there!
Matt Hochberg says
Wow! Is it clichéd to say you had me at brownie?
MaumeeMom says
Wow! That looks amazing!! It is on the list to try on my next trip. Thanks for the review!
chris says
The only thing that could possibly make you more of a rock star is if you told me this was your breakfast!!!!
TJ says
Is it pathetic to admit that i dream of when you post the “You Won’t Believe This!” Snack and then rearrange my plans for Disney to fit them all in?
MouseMisers says
Wow, sorry to say I have never tried this. I love the Earl brownies, I could eat those all day. I am not a big frosting or cake fan, not sure if the frosting would be an improvement for me. I guess there is only one way to find out. Thanks, the photos make it look extra yummy!
AJ says
Teri — Thanks! I wish the photos really showed how delicious this was.
Jo — I wish I’d heard about the brownies — they’re divine!
Jessie — Ha! Thanks! Frostings are like snow flakes — each one is different, but they’re all beautiful in their own way! ;-D (Yes. I’m a dork.)
Sara — I’m so excited to do the full review of Earl of Sandwich — that place is excellent. The quality is leaps and bounds above other “counter-service” spots in the World!
Matt — Have you ever had one of these?!? Get to DTD, stat!
Maumeemom — Thanks for the comment! Glad to add another snack to the list!
Chris — Totally not a rock star — this was dessert at lunch. But I DO have a german chocolate cookie in the fridge for tomorrow morning…
TJ — There are many more a’comin’!!
MouseMisers — Those brownies are amazing. Unrivaled (in my experience) on property. I say sample the frosting; if you don’t like it, email me and I’ll give you my address for shipping. Be sure to include dry ice.

Kinda looks like a whoopie pie.
AJ says
Very whoopie pie-ish for those of us from the north east. But better — no cakey stuff…just pure brownie.
Sarah says
I was thinking that too, about the whoopie pies. It reminded me of when I lived in Pennsylvania. Each fall my mom and two or three of her friends would get together and spend a day baking an assortment of them to share: Chocolate, Pumpkin, Oatmeal Raisin… The house would smell so good when I’d get home from school!
James (Disneynorth) says
So, AJ, I have a question for you…. Is the Earl of Sandwich a Disney restaurant or an outside restaurant on Disney property? Because if it is an outside restaurant on Disney property, I have to disagree that the Brownie is a “Disney snack”. I would define a “Disney Snack” as something you would buy in the parks or resorts only. But then again, can you use a snack credit to purchase the brownie. I know I’m getting into technicalities, but it does bring up an interesting discussion point.
Holly says
Wow – that looks completely sinful! Makes me wish my October 2011 trip was much sooner…
Sarah says
James: Earl of Sandwich is a chain, but if it’s on the mouse’s land, I’m fine with their offerings being a Disney snack. You can buy an Edy’s Strawberry Bar at the quickee mart, but if I eat one in the Magic Kingdom, it just makes it extra special! 🙂
Leigh @ThemeParkMom says
Oh my goodness. I absolutely cannot wait to try that. I have an idea of what that frosting recipe might be, based on your description. I’m gonna get down there and taste it and report back.
AJ says
Ooh! Frosting recipe! Leigh, can’t wait to hear!
Denise Preskitt says
That looks amazing, thank you for posting it! I will definitely try that when we go back to Downtown Disney. 🙂

I tried one of these last week and it was sooooo good! Wasn’t very hungry after my Caprese sandwich so thought I’d just try a bite and ended up eating all of it! I thought it was perfect – just the right amount of frosting to brownie ratio and not too sweet. Didn’t see the peanut butter one though, wish we could have tried that.
AJ says
Denise — You’re welcome! Looking forward to your thoughts on the snack!
Lol — I know exactly how you feel about thinking you’ll take a few bites and eating the whole thing. Happens to me all the time!
pap says
I tried it two weeks ago. It was really good! But they run out of it pretty fast.
Noms! It was perfect as a dessert for two.
Dianne says
OMG! I have sat and drooled over this picture for quite a while now. We are annual passholders, so we will be getting one of these this week. Thanks for sharing (literally).
Mary says
Yes! These were the Best!!!! The Peanut Butter and the Vanilla were my favorites…….YUM, YUM! Just had them last week and have one here at home that I brought with me to enjoy this week!
