Whew! News-heavy week here at the Food Blog! Today, let’s look at some newly released info about Hacienda de San Angel, the newly renovated restaurant opening in September in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion! Here are some great pics of the Hacienda de San Angel slide presentation given at the D23 Flowers and Fireworks event this past weekend. These were taken and donated by Lori Abramson — Thanks, Lori!
Hacienda de San Angel will be opening with a bang in September 2010! What’s the “bang,” you ask? Illuminations, of course! The restaurant is ideally situated to offer incredible (and coveted!) views of Epcot’s nightly Illuminations: Reflections of Earth fireworks show. And with the addition of the table-service part of the restaurant, those ADRs might be tougher to get than Le Cellier for around 8:00pm every night!
Here’s an aerial image of what the restaurant looks like, under construction, right now. You can see how fantastic that view is going to be once it’s finished! Check out that outdoor, circular patio!
The restaurant will have a whole new “backstory,” and a new service structure, which will allow the restaurant to operate as a counter service location and a table service location. Likely, the counter service will operate by day, and the table service by evening.
The food will be fresh, Mexico market-inspired cuisine. And although the restaurant will be run by the same off-site company that runs San Angel Inn inside the Mexico pyramid, I’m hoping the menu will be significantly different.
What else will be different are the cast member costumes! Here are some sneak peeks:
Thanks again to Lori for these awesome photos. I’m really looking forward to fighting tooth and nail for an Illuminations ADR…aren’t you? 🙂
Amie says
Do you know when this will be added to the Disney Dining Reservations? I am going in October and would love to eat there!
AJ says
Amie — They’re supposed to add it in July or August, so stay tuned!
Chip says
That is so cool AJ..You will have to let me know how it is when you are down there this fall!
Andrew says
What will become of San Angel Inn?
I’ll be there in October, and Hacienda will be open, but I’m not sure I want to eat there and deprive my belly of any F&W offerings.
AJ says
Chip — Will do!
Andrew — As far as we know, San Angel Inn will be right there where it always has been, plugging away. Who knows, though — Disney might end up renovating that, too. Looks like Italy and Mexico will, at least for a time, have two table-service restaurants, each — akin to France.
chris says
AJ, if you need an ADR there, just mention my name. LOL.
Janna says
I am definitely looking forward to this (and the jockeying for reservations during Illuminations)!
I will also be juggling my current reservations to add this one to them (FYI: our dates are October 12-17 with 3 days before that at Universal for HP – heresy, I know, I know).
Chip says
yeah you mention Chris’s name and they will show you the door 🙂
AJ says
chris — Swanky!
Janna — We’re definitely hitting Universal for the HP stuff while we’re in Orlando. Problem is…do I write about the food?!?
Chip — Aw! Not true!
Jason says
Smart move, especially since some of the complaints i’ve heard are that San Angel isn’t traditional Mexican food, or at least not the type that Americans expect. I’m flexible. And i’ll just try both when I’m there in October 🙂
Sam says
AJ, What/how do you get reservations for the Illuminations show?
AJ says
Jason — Me, too. I’ll make judgments once I get there. 😉
Sam — You should be able to make reservations for the new restaurants in the World Showcase by July or August. Illuminations is a nightly fireworks show viewable by everyone in Epcot, so you don’t need reservations to see it. However, if you’d like to dine at La Hacienda de San Angel and watch Illuminations at the same time, aim to make a reservation at La Hacienda de San Angel (by calling 407-WDW-Dine 180 days prior to your meal) for around 7:30 or 8:00pm. Illuminations is usually at 9pm.
