So guess what I had to try — and add to our “You Won’t Believe This!” Snack Series — when I went to Disney World in April?
Guys, this Zebra cupcake is massive. Its construction is akin to one of our favorites over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — the chocolate peanut-butter cupcake — with piles of frosting and chocolate shavings stuck in at odd angles.
It’s clearly the Disney dining equivalent of avant garde artwork — a representation of a zebra vs. an actual molded animal, as you find in the White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake, also sold at Kusafiri Bakery. Personally, I think it’s beautiful, and it actually reminds me of the puppeteer-ed floats that prowl the streets of the Animal Kingdom during the parade each afternoon; the angular puppets, stark color contrasts, and artistic animal representations in the parade make me feel that this cupcake is right at home with the way the Imagineers are presenting the animal details in the park. They’ll often give you the impression of the animal, and your imagination takes it the rest of the way.
But, we’re not here to talk detail and design. Let’s talk cupcake. As I said, the thing is giant; easily the size of the chocolate peanut-butter cupcake and easily enough to split between two (or three!) people. The vanilla cake is incredibly moist and super-sweet (I’m always amazed how they keep the mass-produced cake tasting so fresh and moist). And the mounds of vanilla buttercream frosting, again, have a great texture. This frosting is creamier than your typical birthday cake frosting, though — it’s not the same stuff you find on the Butterfinger Cupcake. While just as thick, it’s smoother.
My favorite part, though, were the white and dark striped chocolate shavings. You simply pluck these off of the top, pop them into your mouth, and let them melt right on your tongue. It’s like the best snowflake in the world.
So, now we’ve covered all three of the new Animal Kingdom “You Won’t Believe This!” Snacks — which one will you choose the next time you’re in Disney’s Animal Kingdom?: The White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake, The Paw Print Brownie, or The Zebra Cupcake?

Oh, yummmm….. I’ve bought coffee from the Kusafiri Bakery….. I’m not sure why I didn’t see this….. I need to try this in my next trip to WDW in November. Thanks for sharing!
AJ says
They’re pretty new, Lillian — just came out earlier this year! Now you have to choose between the three new snacks!! (Or get all three and be my hero…)
Cody says
I will be defintly trying this one next time in DAK, I didnt try it last time as I wasnt hungry, and didnt really feel good… Next time is a different story… I choose the Zebra Cupcake! (or even the brownie)
This bakery is turning into my fave stop at DAK…. haha just like i’ve fell in love with Starring Rolls Cafe in DHS.
Dana says
Now if they’d just put a zebra dome on top of the zebra cupcake, we’d be in business…
TJ says
I tried the paw print brownie when I was there last time…it was ENORMOUS. Of course I forced myself to eat the whole thing…simply for bragging rights. I made the same mistake with the butterfinger cupcake, ate that one all by myself too. Maybe next trip I’ll try the zebra cupcake!
Chip says
I might have to come off my diet for that thing..good gawd!
Nom Nom Nom
AJ says
Cody — Thanks for the tip on the cupcake! It really is good; lemme know what you think when you try it (somebody’s birthday has to be coming up, right?)
Dana — OHMIGOSH that’s the best idea EVER!!!
TJ — You have earned your bragging rights, TJ! I don’t think I could have eaten a whole one of either of those, and I pride myself on my stretchable stomach 😉
Chip — Nom Nom Nom!!
Jo says
Needs chocolate cake layered in with the yellow! 🙂
Shayne says
I think the zebra cupcake is definitely the one that’s now on my list. I feel like I need an insulin shot just from looking at the second-to-last photo!
Susan Smith says
I can’t wait to go to Disney World and use all of my snack credits on these cupcakes. I spend most of my time at Disneyland, and their cupcakes are so disappointing in comparison!
AJ says
Jo — You might be right! Or at least some chocolate ganache frosting!
Shayne — Pretty good cross-section photo, eh? 🙂 Unfortunately, we bought both the paw print brownie and the Zebra cupcake at the same time (blog research, of course), and had already sampled the paw print brownie. At that point we were in sugar overload!
Susan — We loved our recent trip to Disneyland! The food is wonderful, but, you’re right, the cupcakes leave something to be desired.

OK total newbie and tried to troll through a few of these “You Won’t Believe THIS snack” posts to find my answer, but in vein. Are these mouthwatering photos of snack items that can be purchased as a “snack” on the DDP? Too good to be true!!
AJ says
Ryland — YES! Most of these ARE snack credits on the Disney Dining Plan!!! 🙂
Ryland says
OMGoodnessssss!!!!! They list snacks as a piece of fruit, popcorn, btl of water! Zebra cakes, carrot cake sandwiches, paw print brownies hardly seem in the same league! Guess I have a ton more research to do! Has anyone compiled a list of all the snack options where etc..? These are going to worth looking forward to!
THANK YOU!!!
AJ says
Ryland — Yep! I can’t guarantee that all of the “You Won’t Believe This Snack!”s are DDP snack credits, but most of them are (including all of the wonderful cupcakes at the Starring Rolls Cafe in DHS). I think a list of all the snack options would be SOOOO long! I love the idea, though. I wonder if we could do that one day here on the food blog!
Have so much fun!
Ryland says
I found a list!! Actually 5, here is a link to pocket guides for snacks and while the descriptions hardly do them justice – Spring Rolls long list says “cupcakes” for instance, as opposed to divine chocolate peanut butter ubercupcake and I don’t even see Kusafiri Bakery on the Animal Kingdom guide. It is a spring board and place to start…

Sorry thought link would post from optional website box…

Ok, so my kids horded their snack credits til the very end. They took everything they could as a “to go” and brought it as carry-on on the airplane. Not sure it was supposed to go through but it did and now they are enjoying a bit of Disney at home. 🙂
Catherine says
Your articles and photos are amazing. Can’t wait to get there and try them all! Do you know if they will give extra plates with a cupcake? We will be sharing and, usually, with 2 small boys who will need a stable place to rest their portions.
