New info and items from the Hacienda de San Angel menu and the Cantina de San Angel menu have just been announced. Both restaurants are scheduled to open in September 2010.
La Hacienda de San Angel
The Hacienda will seat 250 and will serve as a table service eatery for dinner only, opening at 4pm. (And I’ve heard that all the chairs will face the windows, so that everyone has a great view of Illuminations!)
The Hacienda de San Angel Menu will include:
- queso fundido (warm cheese with poblano pepper and chorizo)
- taco trio with rib eye
- roasted chicken and pork
- traditional black bean soup
- mixed grill for two with flank steak, chicken, chorizo and vegetables (a seafood version features grouper, shrimp and scallops)
- roasted shrimp in pepper garlic broth
- flank steak with spring onions, refried beans and cactus leaves
- grilled red snapper with roasted corn and cactus leaves
- Chocolate churros
- sweet tamales
- fruit empanadas
La Cantina de San Angel
The Cantina will operate as it always has, opening at 11am and serving quick-service dishes throughout the day. It will seat 150.
The La Cantina de San Angel menu will include:
- chicken and beef tacos on fresh handmade corn tortillas
- nachos
- cheese empanada
- guacamole and chips
- churros

More authentic Mexican, yet palletable for the everyday masses that know only Tex-Mex. This is a must-do for us on our next trip!
Becca says
That sounds amazing – and queso fundido has to be the most wrong-but-right dish in the world! I’ve never eaten anything but QS while watching Illuminations as the idea just seemed very stressful – I had visions of battling to get a seat on the terrace, suffering the rain of burnt stuff, and having people give you the evils if you take your time over your meal! Improving the availability will just benefit everyone, and the yummy menu is just a bonus!
Molly says
I was hoping they’d do something different with the Mexico food and this sounds perfect. I can’t wait to try it on our next visit.
Whitney says
I’m bummed that we will be getting back from our fall WDW trip *right* before this new restaurant opens. All of the menu items sound so yummy!
(We have reservations at San Angel Inn for lunch on our trip…..)
AJ says
Elisabeth — My thoughts exactly. And the dishes seem less “heavy” than you often see in some Mexican restaurants. I’m excited to try it!
Becca — You’re so right! I’m thrilled that there will be another table-service restaurant with direct Illuminations viewing to take some of the stress off of Rose and Crown. And the menu looks incredible!!
Molly — Me either! I’m eagerly awaiting the opportunity to make ADRs!
Whitney — Aw, bummer! We’ll review it on the blog, at least, so you can decide what you want to eat next time!
Julie says
Will the restaurant be covered (eg ceiling)? Realizing that it may block the view… hmmm. We are very excited and looking forward to dining there in December – just trying to figure out how it might work with weather.
Ro says
That mixed grill sounds yummy, as does the roasted shrimp. How to decide….
Matt Hochberg says
Menu looks good. Just hope the prices aren’t ridiculous.
The Disney Chick says
But what about those delicious, oh so delicious, flautas? Guess I’ll have to drop by La Cava for those.
Can’t wait to try the Hacienda on my next trip!
Cara V. says
When does this open? I’d like to make an ADR for the first week of Dec. Does anyone know if you can make ADR’s for this yet?
AJ says
Julie — Here’s the latest pic of construction. I’m pretty sure the restaurant will be covered. I’m intrigued about viewing, too.
Ro — We’ll have to go with a bunch of other people and make the table order everything!
Matt — Agreed. Since San Angel Inn and the Hacienda are both run by San Angel Inn, LLC, I imagine the pricing will be similar?
Disney Chick — Hopefully there will be more menu items, too! I don’t think this is the whole list.
Cara — Booking will begin in July or August. The restaurant opens in September. Watch Disney’s online dining reservations system to make ressies as soon as it comes online.
Eric says
I hope they have the chocolate churros at lunch, too. I don’t want to make an ADR for just a chocolate churro and have it be awful tasting. Although churro + chocolate should = delicious
robin says
i loooooooooooooooooooooooove empanadas. an excellent addition to ANY menu. btw, saw your post on cookie madness! LOVE it! tons of berries are on sale right now & i just might have to make it. if i do, i’ll be sure to send you the link. thanks for the recipe, AJ!
AJ says
Eric — Churro + chocolate should be delicious is right! I can’t wait to sample.
Robin — Yay!! That was so fun to do that guest post for Cookie Madness. She’s awesome. I always love having berries in the fridge, and that was the perfect opportunity to buy some!
Nate says
While the food does sound great (I’ll be getting that “Mixed Grill for Two” for one), I agree that the most intriguing part of this restaurant is the Illuminations-facing seating. Hopefully this won’t give Disney the excuse to jack up entree prices while letting the food/service quality slip.

Felt lucky to arrive in Disney tonight to find the new restaurant in Mexico open and looking great.. however ..the worst dining experience to date 1) cheese appetizer 12.50 oh so small and yet so rubbery, I think the brown specs were suppose to be the sausage
2)stale chips and 3)teeny tiny 11. tacos served bland and cold
Decided not to order anything else and not to return …headed quickly to Paris where all was well………
