Gingerbread is elevated to an art form in Disney World during the holiday season — literally. While tasty treats do exist for purchase in Disney World bakeries…
…the real draw is to the incredible displays throughout the theme parks and deluxe resorts! I’m excited to share with you this holiday season the amazing edible holiday artwork that has been built in the parks and resorts by many talented Disney Chefs and Cast Members. You saw a little peek of this last week in our showcase of the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House!
Today, let’s take a look at three of Disney World’s deluxe resorts — Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Disney’s Boardwalk Resort.
Contemporary Resort
Disney’s Contemporary Resort created an incredible gingerbread holiday tree last year, inspired by Mary Blair’s incredible mural that dominates the resort’s 4th floor Grand Canyon Concourse.
Once again, in the famous artist’s style, Disney has put together a towering gingerbread tree with sugar and gingerbread accents like gifts, snow mounds, and, of course, hidden Mickeys!
Guests can also purchase specialty items, like chocolate Contemporary Resort postcards and gingerbread men. There’s even a beautiful little gingerbread Contemporary, complete with chocolate monorail!
Beach Club Resort
Over at the Beach Club, guests are once again enjoying a beautiful gingerbread carousel. However, this year’s version is the best one I think I’ve ever seen!
The detail on each horse — Honor, Sweetie, LuLu, Shelly, and Jack — has clearly been painstakingly applied by some very talented pastry chefs!
LuLu the horse is the representative for the Beach Club’s Beaches and Cream Restaurant! She even sports a Wurlitzer Juke Box like the one in the restaurant as well as her very own Kitchen Sink Sundae!
Also, as always, guests can count up hidden Mickeys and tally the special touches, like tiny chocolate statues of their favorite characters…
…and extra gingerbread structures dedicated to Chip and Dale and Snow White!
Boardwalk Inn
And the Boardwalk’s display, once again, does not disappoint. This resort, with its garlands hanging heavy with turn-of-the-century ornaments, is one of the most Christmassy of all!
I love to watch Mrs. Claus Daisy tick through her list of children while poor Donald is stuck in the chimney! Then Stitch is causing trouble as always… 🙂
Of course the intricate detail on top and around the sides of the display deserves to be studied as well. From the toy train chugging around the tracks to the piping and decor around the roof — the time and dedication that this must have required is enormous!
Stay tuned with us later this week as we take a look at the gingerbread and holiday display over at Epcot’s American Adventure Pavilion, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and the Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Tree Tavern!

I love all the holiday displays! and to find the hidden mickeys on them? priceless!
The miniature train display at Beach & Yacht club (I think?) is also a great feat of amazing detail.

We’ve discussed the question of using food as decoration before. So, lets look at the positive side of these decorations. Beside the great skill involved and the time needed for these creations; One can be happy that the Disney folks are willing to make these efforts to make the holidays and our visits to WDW a special, unforgettable event.
