July is National Ice Cream Month!!!
And since Sunday was National Ice Cream Day, we’ve put together a gallery of some of our favorite chilly treats from Disney parks and resorts! (Yes, you have permission to have ice cream for breakfast.)
We know we’re not covering everything, and we’d love it if you would leave us a comment mentioning your favorite ice cream-based dessert in a Disney restaurant. Can’t wait to find out what your choices are! 🙂
So now, without further ado, here’s where to go to get some of our favorite sweet-cold treats in our favorite theme parks!
The Plaza Ice Cream Sundae
Scoops of vanilla ice cream drizzled with hot fudge is then covered in whipped cream when you order this Plaza Ice Cream Sundae. There’s not just one, but many crowning cherries on this divine treat. And that’s all before you get to the crunch of a delicious waffle bowl (if you even make it that far…we didn’t)!
Okay, it’s served in a plastic bowl, which makes it a little less decadent but the crispy waffle bowl will make up for the lack of glassware. Got spare time while waiting curb-side for the parade? Grab one of these little beauties before staking out your piece of pavement! (Or, better yet, let someone else stake it out for you, then head over to the Main Street Ice Cream Parlor to snag one of your own.)

Dole Whip Float
This is practically a food staple at WDW. Hey, it’s a daily fruit serving, right?! The Dole Whip float is soft serve treat with pineapple juice and should be on your Magic Kingdom touring plan.
No visit to Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom is complete without a Dole Whip. Before your flight on Aladdin’s Magic Carpets, sit for a spell and give your taste buds a sensational journey!

Kitchen Sink Sundae
It’s everything but the kitchen sink! This must-share, ginormous dessert begins with many scoops of ice cream, then it’s piled with Oreo cookies, candy bars, cake, bananas, cherries, brownies, all of the toppings in the house, and an entire can of whipped cream.
You’ll want to bring family or friends to help with this sugar-laden reservoir. This is one sink you’ll enjoy cleaning up!

Also at Beaches and Cream, this tower of ice cream, peanut butter sauce, and hot fudge will own you if you’re not careful (and I’m never careful!).

Warm Sticky Bun Sundae
The fact that it’s served at Trail’s End makes it just that much better, but how can you deny yourself an ice cream treat in a jar?! It’s a warm pecan sticky bun that is layered with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and whipped cream.
This sticky bun can be devoured with a spoon. No sticky fingers!

The Gold Rush Sundae
UPDATE: Please note that the Gold Rush Sundae is no longer being served at Ghirardelli’s as of March 2015.
An amazing sundae combining vanilla ice cream, melted peanut butter, and hot fudge! Ghirardelli is famous for the home-made fudge, which will be poured over your ice cream — and you get to choose between milk chocolate and dark chocolate! A generous topping of whipped cream is then topped with chopped almonds and a cherry. (The waffle bowl is extra…)
You don’t have to travel to San Francisco to savor the famed taste of Ghirardelli chocolate. This place can be extremely crowded — all that shopping in Downtown Disney requires sustenance, after all! Go early and go hungry.

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwich
Have your vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookies (or go to the Main Street Bakery and choose your own cookie flavors)!
You’ll see guests walking all over Walt Disney World with these sandwiches. Grab one at Sleepy Hollow to enjoy while looking out at Cinderella’s Castle. The view makes these treats taste even more memorable!
We like ’em for breakfast. They’re big enough to share!

Milky Way Sundae
Another one from Beaches and Cream, this one combines pound cake, hot fudge, caramel, and a Milky Way candy bar with your ice cream! It’s truly over-the-top, but definitely worth a try.

PB&J Milkshake
This gorgeous shake is more peanut buttery than jelly-y, but it’s still a fun concoction served in one of my favorite restaurants.
Ask to see the dessert menu on the viewfinder before you order this one 🙂

Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar
It’s vanilla ice cream dipped in chocolate and placed on a stick. But, it’s in the shape of iconic Mickey. Maybe that’s why it tastes so delicious?!
You can’t go a hour in Walt Disney World without seeing one of these ice cream treats being enjoyed by the young and young-at-heart. Don’t leave WDW without biting off a Mickey ice cream ear — it’s a WDW rite of passage!

Kona Kone
This is one unique dessert that we’re glad “keeps it weird.” Take a waffle cone, fill it with ice cream, top the ice cream with chocolate sauce, then add Mickey-shaped sprinkles. Serve with candy and blue cotton candy for extra sweetness!
This one might be too sweet for some adult palates, but your kids will be sweet dreaming about this dessert long after their return to reality.

Caramel Apple Sundae
A huge piece of real, fresh apple pie is covered in ice cream and caramel. Seriously — this is comfort food!
Fans of apple pie a la mode will be delighted with this apple sundae. It’s all your favorites in one bowl and your ice cream won’t be sliding off your slice of pie. Perfection.

Mini Ice Cream Cones
Grab a fun mini-cone for dessert! You’ll get four waffle cones of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and cookies & cream ice creams which are generously topped with sprinkles. Adorable!
When your party needs a small taste of sweetness after a delicious meal, share the mini-cones at Paradiso 37. These ice cream treats are colorfully festive!

Oh my! I’ll take one of each please, haha! I love the Dole Whip Floats at Disneyland so I am for sure going to get one on my trip to WDW. My husband and I are also thinking about sharing a No Way Jose while we are there too and this picture looks awesome. Desserts (especially ice cream) are my downfall!
OH I’m going into sugar overload just looking at the pictures! I have to add that the Sundae option at DHS scoops is another great option!

I’ve also gone to Ghirardelli. I’m afraid I didn’t like it as much… It was crowded, and they seem to have forgotten about our table, and everything was melted. eh.

Guess I wasn’t so off yesterday when I suggested a Mickey bar for breakfast! You really can’t go wrong at Beaches and Cream! (And their food is good too!)
It’s not Disney World, but the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae in the Royal Palace on the Disney Dream is amazing! The shortcake is almost like a shortbread cookie and layed in between two scoops of vanilla icing!
The No Way Jose is my all-time favorite. The peanut butter sauce is amazing, but I have to admit that I believe the ambiance of Beaches & Cream also plays a pivotal role in bringing this sundae to the top of my list. There’s just something transcendent about eating ice cream surrounded by all of that nostalgic 1950’s ice cream parlor awesome-ness.

wow i could really use any of those right about now! hahaha. I LOVE the Dole Whip Floats and need to have at least one every time i am in the Magic Kingdom. I think i use more snack credits on those than anything else in Walt Disney World! The kitchen sink is another favorite of ours! our whole family will share one every time we are at Beaches and Cream. We have never come close to actually finishing it though! Now hopefully in September when we are there i can convince everyone to try their own sundaes! The No Way Jose looks so good! 🙂 And we LOVE our Mickey ice cream bars! My daughter has to have one the first day we arrive and i need to have at least one every vacation! If only they sold them by the box and i could keep them stocked in my freezer! 🙂

Let me add a shout out for the Mint Chocolate Chip sundae at the Gibson Girl ice cream parlor in Disneyland. It was the best mint chocolate chip ice cream I’ve had that wasn’t from Baskin Robbins!
I am headed to Disney soon to pick up my daughter from grandma’s house…I will definitely try to do an Ice Cream Crawl!

Last December we went to Planet Hollywood to use our Free $15 gift certificate that came with our Disney package deal. We ordered the captain crunch chicken tenders and one of their Banana Splits. Well, I had NO idea that this banana split was actually constucted on top of a dish of CREME BRULEE!! Oh yes, that’s right. The crunchy burnt sugar top of the creme brulee was underneath the ice cream and all the toppings. A fantastically delicious surprise.
It’s 103 right now where I am near NY, at least that’s what the thermometer in the shade says. I know this is about what it’s like in Florida this time of year (at least more frequently than it’s over 90 up here.) The heat and the ice cream pictures are really bringing back some fine memories of summer trips. Thanks.
One of my favorite dinners of all time in WDW happened at the Sleepy Hollow Sandwich Shoppe…it consisted of enjoying an ice cream cookie sandwich while taking in the Main Street Electrical Parade. With “meals” like that, who needs ADRs??

I’m a big fan of anything with dark chocolate at Ghiradelli. Their vanilla milkshakes are also terrific. We get a pb&J milkshakevat 50s primetime every visit. I’ve never gotten an ice cream sandwich from Sleepy Hollow. Will have to try in August!

My favorite? The classic Mickey Premium bar. It is THE best chocolate, and THE best vanilla ice cream ever!
The No Way Jose is my favorite! We visit WDW about every 2 years and each visit I have to have two…one at the start and one at the end.

The No Way Jose & Kitchen Sink sound fabulous! My problem is that even tho I ADORE sweets, I can’t eat a lot in one sitting & no one in my family is a big fan of mixing flavors like me (hubby prefers popsicles, daughter has simple tastes like just plain vanilla). We’re planning on visiting Beaches and Cream for the first time during our upcoming December trip.
I think I’ll skip the french fries with my burger and give “Jose” a try.
I have to say, we dream about the brownie sundae from Storybook Treats (formerly Mrs. Potts Cupboard). Those people are ice cream artists (and I told them so too!). Also worth mentioning, although not technically ice cream, is the all-you-care-to-enjoy shakes at the Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge! I thought I had died and gone to heaven at the idea of refills on a chocolate shake (one of my all time favorite things)! We try to eat ice cream every day while at WDW (seriously, it’s an actual goal we have), and now that you’ve reminded me of all these awesome options, I may just skip food altogether and go straight for ice cream while we’re there in November! Thanks for the fun!
The Ghiradelli Fountain in Downtown Disney is amazing! My Disney Trip wouldn’t be complete without one of their hot fudge brownie sundaes. 🙂 that hot brownie with the cold ice cream…. im drooling. Unfortunately i didnt get it last time i went because they were soing renovations. I guess that means i’ll have to compensate and eat two next time. And i also love Beaches and Cream! They have a lot if choices.
The Solar Flare milkshake that’s newish (had one in November) at Sci-Fi Dine-In is DIVINE! Tastes like a Creamsicle.
We always have to get a Nob Hill Chill at Ghirardelli (either at DTD, California Adventure, the one in San Diego, or the one in San Francisco). We dream of those! But I’ve never been to Beaches and Cream, and that No Way Jose looks incredible. So I think that may have to happen on this trip!

The new ice cream place in Epcot’s France Pavillion, Artisans des Glace is amazing! I went twice last week – both times I had a single scoop. The first time I tried the profiterole ice cream, on the recommendation of the shop attendant. It was very good. It reminded me of vanilla-fudge swirl ice cream with pieces of the sugar cone mixed in. The second time I tried the Caramel. OMG! The best ice cream ever! And I grew up around the corner from a dairy, where they had 30+ flavors every day. I tried them all.
For $9.99 at Typhoon Lagoon the Sand Pail is a great treat on a hot day! Make sure to bring an appetitie or friend because it is full of ice cream and other goodies!
No day at Disney is complete without a Dole Whip from Magic Kingdom and a Apple Crisp sundae from Hollywood Studios
Wow!!! I could eat all of them! My personal favourite is the Domingo sundae from Ghiradelli’s at DTD. I’ve never tried an ice cream sandwich but it’s jus made my list for November!
The Crissy Field Cookie Bits Sundae at Ghirardelli was my absolute favorite. We stayed at the Beach Club and tried many different things at Beaches and Cream, but that sundae at Ghirardelli topped them all!
Don’t forget to visit the Dolphin Resort’s Dolphin Fountain for some of the best ice cream on property!
Storybook Treats at MK no longer has their specialty sundaes sadly. No more brownie sundaes in the Magic Kingdom without a reservation.

My all time favorite shake is the grasshopper shake at The Fountain in the WD Swan. Not for children, as it does have alcohol, but it’s rich and creamy and has just enough alcohol to give it a zing
