It’s time for more 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival booth food pictures! Today, we’ve got a little “Southern Exposure” as we visit South Korea and South Africa!

South Africa
South Africa is back in the World Showcase with it’s well-known filet of beef! This year, it’s accompanied by some delicious smashed sweet potatoes and a Braai sauce that’s excellent. I thought this dish was a winner!
New this year is South Africa’s “Bunny Chow,” a veggie curry served in a bread bowl of sorts. This was tops on my list, but it was a fun addition to the booth!
You can see more pictures, the full menu, and prices on our South Africa Booth Page!
South Korea
South Korea returns to the festival for its second year, bringing back elements of popular dishes from 2010.
The Boolgogi BBQ Beef is slightly different from last year, and features an authentic Kimchi. I really enjoyed this dish!
The Lettuce Wraps with Roast Pork return after being a guest favorite last year!
And South Korea features some very interesting drinks this year! The Myung Jak Bokbunjajoo (raspberry wine) was my favorite of the three, with the Charm Soon Soju and Bek Se Ju (herbal rice wine) following behind. The raspberry wine had a much stronger sweetness and flavor than the other two!

Sadly these two aren’t on my “attempt to do food and wine in a day” list. But I’m not a cabbage fan so in the case of S. Korea maybe it’s for the best.

I loved the bunny chow. The heat was just right. There was actually a very interesting effect. I’m a slow eater – I usually savor my food. As I ate the chow I got the curry flavor, but very little heat. About 2 minutes later, after tossing my plate and moving on, the heat came. Again, not overwhelming but rather flavorful. One nit-pick: it seems that the vegetables were slightly underdone in my bowl. I assume it was an isolated incident. It’s hard to get things just right in booths.
Also – are you trying to say “it was NOT tops on my list, but it was a fun addition to the booth” or “it was tops on my list AND a fun addition to the booth.”
South Korea was once again my favorite booth. I know I’m at Food and Wine when I have my kimchi.

I adore Korean BBQ! I’ve got a great recipe for Kalbi BBQ that you can use on flank steak, chicken or short ribs if you want it AJ!

I’m not a fan of what is being served in the South Korea booth, but I can’t wait to try the Bunny Chow in South Africa. The name alone entices me so!

We wanted to try the beef at South Africa, but did not get to it. However, we were able to try the Boolgogi Beef from South Korea, and it was our least favorite item at the festival. It was extremely spicy, which we weren’t expecting. The rice helped neutralize it a little bit, but if you do not like spicy food, don’t eat this!

Two of my favorite booths at the Festival!

S. Africa was one of our favorite booths. Not only were the offerings good, but they balanced each other well, which made it nice for sharing.
I was curious about S. Korea, having eaten my fair share of Korean food over the years. We never made it there, though. Every time we went by, the booth was packed. I was surprised that it seemed more popular–or maybe just slower to fill orders–than most other booths.

The south korea booth was our absolute favorite this year! So much flavor on a little plate! Yes, it is on the spicy side but even the non-spice lovers in our group thought the beef was fantastic. Lettuce wraps are definitely not as spicy, so if you are sensitive try those! soooooooooo goooooooood……..

South Korea was our favorite booth this year–those lettuce wraps are amazing. South Africa was one of our least favorite booths this year. We were really excited about the veggie curry, but it turned out to be really difficult to eat and the veggies were all under cooked in the order we got–all of the potatoes were crunchy and so it made the dish the only inedible dish we had all week.
