Disney’s Main Street Popcorn
in pre-packaged bags has introduced some new flavors!! As reported earlier, we were intrigued by the Chocolate Cheddar popcorn version.
It sounds good, right?! Sort of savory-sweet like the whole salted-caramel-chocolate wonderousness in Epcot’s Germany!
I found a bag of the stuff at the gift shop in Port Orleans French Quarter in Walt Disney World this week, and I had to buy some to try it out. I love cheese! I love chocolate! What could go wrong?
In truth, we didn’t love it. The snack is made up of a mixture of Disney’s standard cheddar popcorn and a chocolate-drizzled caramel corn; so instead of every kernel having both flavors, it was just a mixture of two already existing popcorn types in the same bag. I have no idea if it would have been better or worse to combine the flavors on the corn, but I think that’s what I was expecting.
We tried a few different combinations of corn kernels together and never really came up with a good version for our taste buds. Maybe this was user error on our part, but we ended up not finishing the bag. High hopes for this one, but it ended up not working out for us. I’d love to hear what YOU thought if you’ve tried it!
Have you tried this new popcorn flavor? Let us know your opinion!

Apart from the separate-kernels issue of configuration (I think I agree with you on this point), I admit to being putt off by the idea of combining cheese and chocolate. I understand the artificial cheddar flavor of snack foods bears little taste resemblance to real cheddar, but, even so, combining it with chocolate doesn’t seem like a good idea to me, no matter how appealing the flavors might be on their own. What’s next, chocolate-covered Cheetos? Chocolate Easter rabbits covered with crushed Doritos? A cheese-flavored Pringles chip garnishing our hot cocoa? You were courageous for trying this (I would have too, I admit), but also, it seems, wise not to finish the bag. Now, on to my breakfast . . . pass the cheese, Gromit!

Correct. There is a reason that popcorn tins have dividers. Just as Caramel popcorn & Cheese popcorn should not mix, chocolate & cheese should not as well. It does, I believe, go against the laws of nature.
Your experimentation in the name of cheesy chocolate science is commendable.

My husband & I recently split a bag of it (got ours at Animal Kingdom) and really loved it! I do strongly feel though that rather than separate kernels it should instead be chocolate drizzled atop the cheese popcorn. I love savoury more than sweet, and adore cheese popcorn and thought that would have upped the taste factor a bit. It took us four days to finish the bag as it was a lot more filling/overwhelming than a more traditional popcorn, but it gets a thumbs up from both of us. I am also very happy to see WDW experimenting with unique popcorn flavours. We love how at Tokyo Disneyland they have all the bizarre (I remember I loved the “curry”) popcorn flavours and would like to see more of these sorts of experimental ideas implemented here in the States.

I’m pregnant and that doesn’t even sound like a good combo. 😉 I think, like you said, I *might* be more intrigued if it was chocolate on the actual cheddar popcorn- but even then, I’d want a sample, not a whole bag.

You know I LOVE caramel corn and cheese corn together, whether it’s individual pieces they mixed or it’s the Twister Corn they sell at the Karmelkorn shops at the Malls, but for some reason the idea of adding chocolate to that mix doesn’t appeal to me. But since it is chocolate drizzled on caramel corn, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

Last month, our local Trader Joe’s had a cheese that was a combination of English Cheddar and milk chocolate. It was really tasty, albeit a bit rich. The two flavors can work together and is not far off from the Cheddar and carmel popcorn if you think about it.

I don’t think it sounds good to begin with so I probably wouldn’t try it.. and I too love chocolate and cheese. The only thing that I can think of that has chocolate and cheese together is I’ve heard some people like to put a piece of cheddar cheese in their hot chocolate!

Caramel popcorn and cheese popcorn should mix, that is chicago style and it is yummy!
Nicole says
I have never had this at WDW, but I do live near Chicago and Garrett’s Chicago style popcorn is the best I’ve ever had.
Amie says
Oh, Garrett’s is wonderful. The mixed caramel and cheese is the best! Not sure I would like chocolate with it though.
