Thanks to reader Susan T., we have a bit of seriously rad information for you: The King Cupcake recently debuted at the Pop Century Resort at Walt Disney World in the Everything Pop food court! As a tribute to Elvis Presley, the cupcake features all of the flavors from the King’s renowned favorite sandwich:
- Chocolate Cupcake
- Banana Custard Filling
- Peanut Butter Frosting
- Candied Bacon
- Chocolate Drizzle
This is totally a big hunk ‘o love, right?! Can you believe that?!?
Susan sent along this review — scroll down to see her pic!:
The cupcake was nice and moist. I would’ve liked a bit more banana custard inside, but it was nice and tasty. The peanut butter icing was to die for. You really need to like peanut butter, which I do — so I loved the icing.
It was my first time eating candied bacon. It was different. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either. I think it’s a bit of an acquired taste. I would definitely have this again.
I’m pretty much sold, Susan! I can’t wait to try this and I hope it’s still there the next time I’m in Orlando!!
Will you try the King Cupcake on your next visit to Pop Century? Thumbs up or down for candied bacon? Chime in!
Mylene says
OMG! Gotta try this!!! I’m staying at Pop Century in August and that is the first thing I am going to grab (even before the ti-dye cheesecake)
Chelsea May says
Can not believe I missed this cupcake on our trip!
Sue says
Wow! Wish I could have one right now.

Candied. Bacon.
Two of my favorite words, but my jury is out on whether they would be good on a cupcake. All of the other ingredients sound amazing, but I still wonder if the “savory” of bacon would go with these sweets.
However, I guess it is better than Candied Blue Suede on a cupcake. Just sayin’.
Christi says
OMG, I am with Mylene–we’re staying at POP for the first time in August and this is a must-do for us, even before the Tie-Dye Cheesecake!!! Sounds amazing!
Beth says
Darn! I love candied bacon (or bacon of ANY kind), bananas and chocolate, but since I’m allergic to peanuts (boo!) I won’t be able to enjoy this…
What “peanut free” cupcakes would everyone recommend?
Lisa says
That sounds amazing, but I’m not sure if I’d make the trip out to Pop Century just for a cupcake. I’m curious if it’s the same size as the giant cupcakes at Hollywood Studios. (I can’t think of the name of the restaurant right now.)
Jill D says
where have you been all my life!
Jaia says
Another candied bacon lover here…that is also allergic to peanuts. Drat! This looks awesome. If only you could substitute chocolate icing for the peanut butter. I think I need to suggest that to someone…
Victoria says
Oh my… My husband and I are going in December and staying at Pop for the first time. I will DEFINITELY be trying this!!! 🙂
JoAnn says
So the big decision will be in November will be which ones to try while I’m at Pop.
Rose says
Whooo my son is gonna love this! Me too! hehehe
Essie says
I’m staying at AoA in Nov….right across the bridge. I wonder what other cupcakes Pop may have?

A word of warning, these cupcakes seems to be popular, and sell out long before days end. Tonight I grabbed the last one around 6:00, so get there early. This cupcake contains all of my favorite food groups in one delicious package. My only criticism would be that I wished the bacon was crispier. This is no doubt the result of using the typical “shaved bacon” that the parks and resorts use. Had this candied bacon been made with thick cut bacon and then broken up, I think the result would have been better. For those curious, it’s a 3.99 price point, and is the size of the standard cupcakes (unlike those at Starring Rolls or Contempo Cafe).

We bought ours in the afternoon. Right after we checked in around 2:30 pm. They had the sign out the first day. After that, we never saw the sign displayed again. When we ordered it, the CM just sort of smiled and said, “Ah, the King.” and handed it to us. It was definitely an experience, and a great way to start our stay at Pop.

Omg my boyfriend is gonna flip out when we sees this cupcake. Banana custard, peanut butter frosting, CANDIED BACON?! This is all his favorite foods!! It’s too bad it has that banana custard. Ive never met a banana (flavor) I liked 🙁
Kris says
Yummmmmm candied bacon
Rune says
OMG! This looks like my kind of cupcake! Sadly we’re not at the Pop until December though, but hopefully it’ll still be around. Chocolate, peanut & banana sounds de-lish and the bacon, well why not!
Doris says
I’m a little cynical on Disney cupcakes, but I will admit, this is something I really want to try!
Mark D. says
Yes Please!

I am leaving Monday for Pop, this will be the first on my list to try!
Brandy says
Definitely an add on for the Cupcake Crawl! Looks like a good combo of flavors! Sooo hoping to go back late 2012/early 2013 so COME ON PEEPS!! Eat it so it sticks around!! ; )
Brandy says
I also forgot to add-Kudos to Disney for having its finger on the pulse of what’s happening in food. Candied bacon or bacon in sweet applications is wildly popular right now but not exactly “mainstream”. For Disney, being willing to toss its hat into the ring and appeal to foodies, not just keeping the masses happy and in crème brûleé,is kind of cool to see. I have to admit, I scoffed at people who said they would go to WDW to eat, I didn’t understand the draw. But having been there and seeing & partaking in all the numminess has definitely made me someone willing to vacay there just to eat! Ps-I am not anywhere close to a foodie, not that adventurous ; )
Amanda says
Not sure if I would go for the candied bacon, but I am glad to see Disney putting out some new things. Sounds popular, so hopefully it will encourage them to start diversifying their menus again.

I am stopping by the Pop Century tomorrow on my way home from EPCOT to get one (or several) they look ridiculously good!
poproc says
Just had one yesterday. They sell out really fast. You must get one from the snack line. They are not in the case by the tie dye cheesecake. It was fantastic. Love the balance of flavors. Well worth the snack credit.
Lily says
I tried this by accident and was shocked. I thought it was just peanut butter and chocolate and thought the bacon was toasted coconut. I love peanut butter, chocolate, and bacon but not together. I didn’t like it and went back down to the food court to get something else. The guy at checkout told me it was really popular and told me that it had banana filling. I loathe bananas and was thrilled I only got one bite into it. I swapped it out for tie-dye cheesecake which was delicious. I can see how this cupcake would thrill some people but it wasn’t for me.
Linda Dougherty says
We will be staying at POP in August. There will be nine of us and the King cupcake and the tie dye cheesecake are on our to try list.
Joe B says
Looks good except for the bacon. I don’t eat pork.
Linda Dougherty says
We will be at WDW from Aug 7-13. This is definitely on our list of foods we must try!
Mrhub says
I likw it! It’s got bacon, how can’t it be good!
Cynthia P says
Oh no! Has this item been removed from the menu? We went to the Pop Century tonight for a quick dinner and to finally taste the King, but it the seems that “the King has left the building!” (Sorry, couldn’t resisit). We inquired at the ice cream counter and the cashier there hadn’t even seen it on the menu in a week. After inquiring with another cashier, she thought that they might have had a recent menu change. Bummer! I hope it’s just temporary!
