There are so many fun new places about to open up in Disney California Adventure! I feel like I’m going to need a check list to hit them all when they officially open on June 15th!
Be sure to check out the great menu options at Flo’s V-8 Cafe, Sally’s Cozy Cone Motel, Carthay Circle Restaurant, Trolley Treats, and Clarabelle’s Ice Cream! And don’t forget to snag your Starbucks at Fiddler, Fifer, and Practical Cafe!
Next up, Mortimer’s Market is one of the smaller shops, but that doesn’t mean you should skip it…
Mortimer’s Market will be a one stop shop for whole and cut fresh fruits, veggies, “healthier” snacks, and beverages such as bottled water, juices, and soft drinks.
The “story” behind Mortimer’s is that this fresh fruit and veggie stand was run on Buena Vista Street by “Mortimer McKenzie.” Mortimer was said to be a small man with a high voice; friendly and unassuming with an enthusiastic personality. A certain young animator might have found inspiration for a very famous character here…
We can’t wait to celebrate the Re-Opening. I wonder if you’ll be able to get giant Dill Pickles at Mortimer’s???
By the way, be sure to check out the incredible Disney California Adventure photography from our friends over at DisneyTouristBlog.com as they cover the events!
Do you ever choose “healthier” snacks while visiting Disney Resorts? Or do you stick to the classics like churros, popcorn, and ice cream? Let us know in the comments if Mortimer’s will be a stop for you!

I will be hitting Mortimer’s!!! I love fresh fruit anytime, I hope that have my fave Pinapple slices mmmmmmm. Also I love the Oswad in the pic are we going to be seeing more of him? I know Disney was trying to get the rights to him back.

The last time we were at WDW, we found we were CRAVING fresh fruit/food. Don’t get me wrong, we had some great meals, but sometimes, especially in the heat of the day, we couldn’t stomach the thought of another ice cream or treat. Those sad little packages of grapes and other fruits sold by the “street vendors” were starting to look like manna to us. I would welcome a shop where it was easy to grab something fresh and healthy for a change.

Heather, I have to say I am anxiously waiting for your reviews! My family will be in the Park in a month and are really looking forward to the new and different options out there @ DCA.

@Christal – I’m looking forward to it too! I love those pineapple slices. Have you had them dipped in chocolate? ; )
Heather Sievers says
@Michelle – We have a few different area here at the Disneyland Resort that offer some really nice fresh fruits. Definitely a nice option!

Hi Heather! I have a non-food question! (I know! GASP!) I adore that little doll in the wagon.. I am assuming it’s Mortimer.. do you know if they sell that in Disneyland/Disney World? I have never seen it before!
Heather Sievers says
@Theresa – I haven’t seen it in stores, but I am guessing that it MIGHT be a new item when Buena Vista Street opens up on the 15th. If I see it, I’ll let you know!

Hi Heather! I am so glad to hear Disney is continuing to increase their health food options and accessibility to better choices while experiencing the Park. It helps to balance the nostalgic churro and Mickey ice cream bar… New indulgent treats that will need balancing are the chocolate yummies at the Ghirardelli shop in DCA. My husband and I were lucky enough to try their ice cream sundaes just hours into the first day of their soft opening last Friday. Have you had a chance to try the new treats? We would love to hear your perspective!
Heather Sievers says
@Hilary – Working on my Ghirardelli post today! ; )

@Christal – Disney actually reacquired the rights to Oswald a few years back. They’ve used him a bit (most notably in the video game Epic Mickey), and his name is going to be in bright neon on Buena Vista Street with the opening of Oswald’s Filling Station.
@Theresa – The plush seen in the pictures isn’t Mortimer but rather Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. As for finding that particular item in stores, maybe at some point, but so far he hasn’t really been showing up much in Disney Parks stores.
Heather Sievers says
@Theresa – You can buy it at Elias and Co. on Buena Vista Street. I saw a woman with on in Cars Land and asked her!!!
Theresa says
@Heather — That is awesome!!! Too bad I am not visiting DL.. I will be going to WDW this October.. maybe I will get lucky and they will have it there! Thanks again for all your help!! 🙂
Theresa says
@James – Thanks for the clarification! 🙂
