Chef Brian Piasecki reveals a few details of the upcoming renovation of the popular California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World!
This high-end restaurant offers exquisite cuisine and top-notch fireworks viewing, but we’ll have to find another signature spot to dine for the first half of 2013! According to the DisneyParks Blog, we finally have a solid date for the restaurant’s closure that we reported earlier this year.
California Grill will close in early 2013, and re-open in the late summer. Save us a spot at this window table! 😉
Menu and Other Updates
While the menu will undergo some tweaking, a fresh, seasonal menu with top-of-the-line sushi will continue to be the main focus of the kitchen.
The continued use of creative flavors and techniques will allow chefs to create the sophisticated cuisine that keeps guests returning. Chef Piasecki noted, “I’ve got a great group of chefs in my kitchen and a great crew in the dining room, and we all plan to return”. That’s great news for guests that love the California Grill!
The two private dining rooms will be kept for personalized catering for groups and parties. Enhancements will be made to the interactive kitchen which will allow for a “fresh spin to California Grill classics, and add some cutting-edge new selections to the menu”.
Here’s hoping that historic and incredible goat cheese ravioli finds its way back onto the menu!
We can’t wait for more news on the renovation. What do you hope to see (or taste) when the restaurant re-opens?

I’m so excited but also a little nervous! I hope that it is as good as it is now after the renovations or hopefully it will be even better!!!
Heather says
Oh wow! I knew it was coming–but I didn’t expect it to be for that long! I’m having dinner there tomorrow for early 4th of July fireworks viewing!
Theresa says
We were just there last month and sat at the table closest to the Castle!! It was so wonderful!
Mandy says
Well, I’m disappointed. We were going to try it for the first time in February, but hubby will be glad his wallet will be spared the hit. 🙂
Shayne says
Waaaah! We just made reservations today for a stay at the Contemporary in February, and we were looking forward to returning here after having such an enjoyable meal there last December. 🙁
Kelly says
I am so curious as to what they’re going to do.
I should mark my calendar for late Summer 2013 so I can check it out!
Michael says
This title should changed to “Con-temporary closure…” Just sayin’…
Keith says
This can only be a good thing. Cal. Grill has become a shadow of its former self. Hopefully, they will concentrate on changing the dynamics of the restaurant so that there aren’t 150 parents and kids constantly hanging out/eating in the bar and waiting area. What was once a little more sophisticated scene has deteriorated into an extension of a typical theme park restaurant, with better food.
Wendy says
I would love to see the “smoked salmon flat bread” again.
I also agree with Keith! We don’t go there as often as we once did. It’s just not “special” as it once was.

The decor could be updated to maybe some vibrant light blues and greens, but I don’t see them improving on the food. The food has always been the best on property, in my opinion.
Laura says
So where does the staff go during the closure? If they fill in at another restaurant on property, that’s probably where I’d want to make reservations. CG is my all-time favorite, both for food and service.
Shawn says
I have never been to California Grille but hope to when the kids are older. 6 months of refurb…
Dave Kliment says
Do you know if Yoshie will be working her sushi magic somewhere else on property during this refurb? Kona maybe?
