Happy National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, everyone! And in honor of this important day, it’s time to head back to one of my favorite spots for a frosty treat, the Tutto Italia cart in Epcot’s Italy!
I couldn’t wait to tell you guys about the Coppa Delizia sundae at this very spot a few months ago, so I wondered what other delicious treats they might have to satisfy a craving for cold and creamy on a hot Florida summer day.
I was excited to see that the menu had changed a bit, and the kiosk was now offering Gelato Cookie Sandwiches! I wondered if these would be as good as the Homemade Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches you can find throughout the parks…
You can choose from pre-made sandwiches, or you can request that your cookie treat be custom-made with your choice of gelato flavor.
I decided to go for a custom sandwich. While I’m probably not going to turn down a cookie sandwich most of the time, I prefer them freshly made. There’s just something so awesome about that fresh – not frozen – cookie/ice cream combination.
While the sandwich was good, the cookies were a little crisp for my preference…and I definitely didn’t seem to have as much gelato on my custom treat as the pre-made ones had. 😉
Still, on a hot hot hot day in Florida, this is a delicious treat. And actually, it’s nice to have a dessert that I can actually finish completely on my own, rather than having to share. These were just the right size!
If you love ice cream sandwiches, check out all of the cool places that you can get customized versions in all four parks!

I just heard about this today on the WDW Radio Show! Good timing following up with a post + pics. I’m afraid that it’d just make me want to get over to Main Street Bakery for a gynormous cookie sandwich. (I know, I know . . .future world)
Did the gelato melt more quickly than an ice cream sandwich does?
AJ says
John — It melted more quickly for me, though that’s because I was there in July for the first time ever! 😉

I would think that the premade ones would have a softer cookie since it would have had time to absorb some of the moisture of the gelato. Maybe premade is the way to go on this one.

Good lord, that looks tasty. I’ll have to get one next time.

Will I be trying this when I go in two weeks? I might be now! LOL! I had the gelato on my Food Hit List so I guess I’ll have to see how hungry I am when I hit Italy. 😉

Hate it when I get crispy cookies. I had almost given up on Disney until the Fountainview last December – the choc chip cookies were nice and soft there.

Every time I think Disney has out done itself with their treats, they go ahead and come out with something even better! I am still baffled by all the amazing things Disney had to offer. Once again, this is another treat that I have to add to my list of things to eat when I go to WDW again.

Does this count as a DDP snack?

I actually prefer a crispy cookie to a soft one. Good news for me!
