As you know, La Cava del Tequila in Epcot’s Mexico pavilion is one of my favorite pit stops on my way “around the World.”
And I was excited to see a few new margaritas on the menu when I made my last visit a few weeks ago!
A Frozen Coffee Margarita has been added for $13 (building on the popularity of their regular coffee margarita), and an Azuñia Organic Skinny Margarita is now on the menu at $14!
La Cava Skinny Margarita
I’ve become a bit of a connoisseur of skinny margaritas recently, since so many of them are popping up on menus around the country. (By the way, the reason they’re called “skinny” is because they’re supposed to have fewer calories than other standard margaritas — usually due to the lack of sugary margarita and sour mixes as fillers.)
Most are sharp and biting, and some are slightly metallic, but I haven’t really found one that I love. So I was interested to see what La Cava could do with the recipe.
Well, not surprisingly, the Cava skinny margarita is the best one I’ve had to date. You’d think I’d have learned by now to trust the experts.
The flavors were well-balanced, and the first sip wasn’t too sour or metallic the way it can be with many skinnies. I also didn’t get a strong or strange aftertaste. Basically, this tasted like a margarita…not like a “diet” margarita. Very enjoyable, and even if the calorie count still isn’t all that friendly, at least your indulgence isn’t in vain.
New Cava Eats
Also new at La Cava these days is a dip trio combo for $14. Chips are served with salsa, queso, and guacamole…and you know how I feel about that queso…
As always, Cava is one of our favorite places in Epcot. And while Tutto Gusto in Epcot’s Italy is a close second for last minute, incredible eats, that Mexico hideaway still holds a place in my heart. 😉

I’m glad to see you had the chips and queso to balance out the “diet” margarita.
And thanks, I had no idea that the skinny margaritas don’t use the margarita mixes which usually give me migraines…hmmm…I might have to try La Cava’s version!

$14.00 for a diet margarita?! Ack!
However, you have piqued my curiosity about this “diet” drink. I loves me some Margaritas and I’ve never had the pleasure of tasting one in Epcot (yet). I usually get my drink on in France (who can resist the Grey Goose Citron slush?). Plus that queso looks divine. Is there any particular margarita you would recommend? I’m going back in mid-September and am looking forward to trying different things in Epcot- Plus your DBF Mini Guide to Epcot Snacks was a bargain download filled with awesome tips.
Can’t wait to try this!

Kelly — I’m all about balance! 😉 Let me know what you think when you try them. Also, ask at La Cava which margaritas don’t use mixes — I would guess that very few of them do over there. They’re all good and worth a try.
Amanda — Ha ha! It IS quite good, but I might choose the Citron Slush over just about anything else in Epcot. 😉 That said, I love the new Pomegranate Margarita at Cava, and there are several others that are worth a try (Avocado and jalapeno are fun!). Thanks so much for the Kudos on the Epcot Snack Guide!! I had a great time writing it!

That frozen coffee margarita sounds good to me. In fact, I could use one right now. 🙂

What a perfect posting for a warm Friday afternoon. I can just imagine sitting on a bench in Disney’s France, sipping on a citron slushie and watching the lights wink on around the lagoon. Then as it starts to get dark, walk around to Mexico and have some chips and queso along with one of those skinny magaritas and wait for the fireworks. Heaven!

I tried a skinny margarita in Texas recently (my first one) and it definitely had an after taste and that “skinny” sourness to it. I’m excited you liked this one! I’ll try it during my La Cava Meet in late September! Thanks!

I am a margarita affecionado….and HAD to try the new Azunia Organic “Skinny” Margarita at LaCava! Like many, most skinny margaritas have an off-taste to them. So on my last visit to Epcot, I went to San Angel Inn, to the LaCava Cantina, and ordered a round of them for my friends! And HOLA!!!…I have finally found an outstanding margarita that is fresh, crisp, and tasted GREAT! With the organic tequila, agave nectar and fresh lime juice….it was delicious! Being a purist, I then HAD to taste the Azunia Platinum (Blanco) straight as a shot…and look out Patron…this tequila is OUTSTANDING! The best word to describe it is SMOOOOOOOOTH, with no bite or burn, and a fresh agave flavor! Well done LaCava, you got a winner!!

I had the frozen coffee margarita in June and it was so, so good. I’ve also tried the avocado margarita–good, but the coffee marg has the edge. And daughter & I did the chip and dip sampler, too. We loved the queso & the guac, but thought the salsa was way too sweet.

We always make a stop here – my husband and I will be meeting my parents there during our next trip. Our vacations will overlap by 1 day, and that’s what we wanted to do together. The guac is a MUST – especially since it was taken off of the menu at the restaurant. We usually go through 2 orders of that. And I can’t remember the name of the margarita, but it’s blue and has a higher shelf tequila – that’s my all-time favorite. A must-drink!

Ok. Can we stop talking about this place. It is so small that I don’t think more people should know how amazing it is! I feel bad telling family members. BUT I also want it to be around a while so I guess this article is ok. Sigh.
