We’ve got another great Animal Kingdom menu item to share with you thanks to a DFB Reader who was recently in the park!!
This yummy treat comes from Tamu Tamu Refreshments in the Africa area of AK — Quinoa Salad!
Tamu has been improving its menu for over a year now, and even though there’s no under-cover seating, it’s starting to be able to take its place with the other counter-service spots in Animal Kingdom when it comes to food quality!
South African Quinoa Salad
The relatively new menu shows the vegetarian Quinoa Salad selling for $8.19. A great deal for a full meal in Disney World!
According to our reader, “This salad is made with fried tofu croutons, large cuts of red pepper, vine ripe tomatoes, feta cheese, cucumber, and kalamata olives….with quinoa and romaine lettuce!
The fresh squeezed lemon juice just makes this dressing!”

Yay! Always excited to see more veggie options, especially at AK – Thanks, AJ!

Agreed – so happy to see another vegetarian option at AK…it seems so ironic to me that they have the least amount of veggie choices of all the parks!

It says no under-cover seating; we always take our food over to the tables next to the Dawa Bar to enjoy it. I’ve had the ham and egg flatbread for breakfast, the turkey and swiss sandwich for lunch, and the fruit bowl as a snack, and have enjoyed them all. We really like this little spot. I’m looking forward to trying the new salad next time.

I’m going to have to get one of those Quinoa Salad now, just to discover what fried tofu croutons are. I’m not really a fan of tofu, but I am a fan of fried things! The rest of the bits sound like they’d be great together. Here’s one place where I wish that the un-printed natural looking paper-ware from the Epcot festival food booth would start showing up. They come in all sizes, and just about everything at Tamu Tamu would look great against a natural looking fiber-rich plate or food boat. I know, it’s “just” presentation, but the red and white paper plates make me think, “fries, pizza, burger”.

AJ, this Quinoa salad has me totally excited! I discovered my love of Quinoa when I had lunch @ Be Our Guest and now I want to try this one too!

I had this recently and it was great! I think that calling it a Quinoa salad was an odd choice, as there is only a very tiny amount of quinoa (really, about a teaspoon spread throughout more as a spice almost, not a real component). It was very good though!

This looks amazing! I can’t wait to get down there next month and try it!!!

I am always glad to hear about better menu options at Tamu Tamu. Back in 2007 this place earned my vote for the worst hamburger on Disney property. The menu changes over the past few years have given me a reason to stop by for a meal on my next visit.
