Time for another Disney World ice cream treat for National Ice Cream Month! While you can also get this one in your local grocery store, most likely, it can be found at several locations in Disney as well.
Today, we’re sampling the gorgeous Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Milk Chocolate Almond Ice Cream Bar.
Häagen-Dazs Vanilla Milk Chocolate Almond Ice Cream Bar
I spied this treat on a recent trip through Animal Kingdom. You seem to find the Häagen-Dazs brand in this park more than the others. Since the brand is affiliated with Nestle (which owns Dreyer’s and Edy’s), it makes sense that their products are marketed here.
A glance at the nutritional information tells you just how decadent this treat is. But at least they don’t try and sell it as three servings! 🙂
Your premium ice cream bar comes well-protected, wrapped in bag, and placed in a box. I figure this also keeps it from melting immediately upon taking it out of the cooler. Have you ever walked around Disney with an ice cream bar melting down your arm? Because I so have.
Out of the wrapper, you can see the crisp milk chocolate coating is studded with chopped almonds.
The nuts make for a really nice texture and add a little upscale touch to this frozen treat.
Bite into the bar, and it’s just as delicious as you’d expect! Kind of like a chocolate sundae on a stick.
The high-quality Haagan-Dazs ice cream flavor really comes through; and there’s just enough of a chocolatey crunch to give a nice contrast to the creamy coldness of the ice cream.
I think this bar is a great addition to the other ice cream cart options that you find in Animal Kingdom. A little more luxurious than other treats, it’s a great vacay indulgence.
But does it beat a Mickey Bar? Probably not. 😉

Now if only we could get a Mickey bar with toffee in the coating or with black raspberry ice cream inside . . . What? Don’t any of you have fantasy Mickey Bars?

At first I thought, “why would I want to buy something at DW that I can get at the local grocery store?” Then I saw the 13 grams of saturated fat and thought, “I’m glad they don’t make that information available on all the other snacks.” Our next trip is in a few months and I already have a brownie, ice cream sandwich, a couple of cupcakes, and some Werther’s carmel corn picked out for my snack credits. I’ll probably get something from Les Halles Bakery. And of course, I always have to get a sundae at Ghirardelli’s the first night and a pb&j milkshake with dinner at the 50s Prime Time Cafe. I’m sure there will be plenty of saturated fats in all of those. I just don’t want to know about it. As it is, I plan on dropping about 10 pounds BEFORE I go.

Greg — Dropping 10 pounds before the trip is a great idea! 😉 Don’t forget, though, you’ll probably log a few miles of walking each day in the parks and you have to keep up your strength!
Sue — Ooh!! Fantasy Mickey Bars? I see a new DFB post coming up…

I’m with Greg on this one. While it looks tasty, I can’t see myself wasting money and stomach space on something that can be found at home, when Disney has so many (over 100) unique, one-of-a-kind treats that can’t be found anywhere else. I’d hate to have one of these when I can have one any day of my life by just driving 2 minutes to the grocery store, and then realizing it bumped another treat off my list that I may have to wait a few months (a year or longer for some folks) to get another chance at that other treat.

They don’t sell these bars in the supermarkets in the UK so I know I will be buying one.

@Sue. Wow! those sound good!!

Around 20 years ago, I grabbed one of those bars from the freezer section in a drugstore. They became a once a week treat for a couple of months. I only buy them about once a year now due to the nutritional value. I don’t get all the fuss over the Mickey bar. I think it is mediocre in quality at best. If I really want an ice cream treat as opposed to frozen fruit/fruit juice, I would totally get one of these. It’s nice to have another option.
