Hand Made Candy Canes from The Candy Palace
Just like last year, Candy Cane making will be alternating between Candy Palace on Main Street USA in Disneyland and Trolley Treats over on Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure.
HOW IT WORKS
Technically you are not supposed to line up before park opening, but guess what people do? When I went for the first time, I was lucky and got there just 30 minutes before park opening. But I talked to someone who was there by 4:00am, which to me is nuts. So basically, it’s your call. Last year, the crush wasn’t quite so bad, but you never know what’s going to happen this year.
Wristbands may be picked up at park opening.
I HAVE NOT confirmed this info, but this is how it went down last year:
There will be 40 wristbands per batch and three batches per day. This means that 120 wristbands will be given out at park opening.
The earlier you are there, the earlier your batch. I HAVE CONFIRMED that your wristband will get you ONE candy cane. If you have people with you, you HAVE to be together as a group. They will not hand you wrist bands for anyone who is not with you. Lines start at whichever candy kitchen is producing candy canes for the day. SO walk REALLY fast to either Candy Palace or Trolley Treats upon entering the park. Cast members will be there to guide you. It’s serious business!
Your wrist band will have the date and batch time on it. You may pick up your candy cane any time after your batch time.
I HAVE ALSO CONFIRMED that you must pick it up by 4:00 & cost is $12.99 (no discounts accepted). If you don’t pick up your cane by 4, it will be sold to someone in the stand by line.

@Wendy – It’s really a fun experience!
@Deneice – It depends what time you get there. SOMETIMES there is a pre-line outside of the gates, but in general it’s a free for all with everyone entering at park opening. Lines are at either Candy Palace or Trolley Treats depending on which candy kitchen is making them that particular day. Technically you are supposed to run to line but people do REALLY REALLY FAST walking. ; )

Yeeeeee! I will be in Disneyland leading right up to Christmas… Hope to snag me a wristband!
I tried to get one a couple of years ago, it was a magic morning, and the line to get into the park with magic morning was so ridiculous that by the time we got to go in the general opening opened. They really need to make the extra magic morning on the left hand side (near the exit turnstiles) instead of the far right hand side because you have to try and make your way through everyone else waiting in line to get in. Don’t think I will try this year because people literally push you out of the way.
Do they make candy canes in Disney World? Going there 11/16/2013 -11/23/2013. Hope they do!

@Shelia – I’ve never had that experience. It’s chaotic, but I’ve never been pushed! Yikes!
@Patricia – Unfortunately Walt Disney World does not make them.
We were from the east coast there for the first week of December. We stood in line at Disneyland, but that wasn’t necessary. We were in the second group, but you could have gotten there later and been in the third group. We tried another day over at DCA and there was no line and they were telling people why they were standing outside.
It was clear where to go. The disneyland folks had several people there to help get the line moving and keep it controlled.
@Jason – Glad you had a good experience! The dates a little later in the season seem to be less crazy. I also think people weren’t aware it was going on over at DCA at first since it was the first year over there.

My little girl loved them, found it to be nothing special but it was fun getting the candy canes.

Might try to get some (one?) this year. Sooo… if you don’t get these specially made candy canes then the only other candy canes available there are “normal” ones shipped in from elsewhere?
@Christian – They do sell “replica” canes that are made off site. Same size and price, just not made fresh in the actual candy kitchens in the resort.

How early on Sat the 30th should I get there to stand a chance? And do you get to watch them make it like you do at the candy palace? I’ve always wanted to see that!

@Eric – I’d just make sure to be there at park opening or maybe an hour or so before. I believe that both parks open before rope drop, so you can get in to Candy Palace or Trolley Treats that way.
If they are doing the candy canes on a day with an Extra Magic Hour will they start giving tickets out at 8 or do you have to stay in line at candy cane location until 9 for the tickets to be distributed?
I have always wanted to do this and this year is my chance…I’ll be lining up early on Dec 14th!
@Gretchen – I’m not positive, but it’s possible they may hand then out early. I’d still head straight there regardless. Once you have a wristband, you are free to go about your day and come back at your batch time. I do recommend you watch them being made if you can.

Per the merchandise managers that I was able to speak to this friday, they don’t do a standby line anymore (and haven’t for a few years).

We cut through the Candy Palace this evening about 6 and there were house made candy canes available at two of the registers. Not many, but this is the first time I’ve laid eyes on them. We bought one and can’t wait to try it.
We went on 12/18 last year for our candy canes. We arrived just after park opening (CA Adventure) and walked right up to the Trolly Kitchen where a lady was standing out front handing out bracelets. No line… in fact she was asking people if they wanted a bracelet. Worth every bit of the $12.99 price.
@JSMarsh – Did they tell you they were the house made ones? The ones on the counter are usually the replicas, which are basically the same, just not made in the candy kitchen on site.

@Teri – Lucky!!!! I went last Friday, was there an hour early, and got a wristband for the final batch by the skin of my teeth.
I got one of the replica ones earlier today. Figured I’d get that then possibly try for the more real one another day. When I went to ring it up two different cast members assured me it was the really the same thing, still hand-made just not right there. I hadn’t even asked them about it. They might’ve overheard me a few minutes earlier having it confirmed to me by a different cast member that the ones made right there had already been claimed for today.
I was there at 4am last year! There were 2 other people in line with me and we made a pact for cutsies whoever was closest in line. Even though I was first into the park, I was 10th in line cause people sprinted past me. The candy canes are a huge deal!
I got mine this morning. Yes, there was a line but it wasn’t a mad rush. We watched them during the rolling and curling process and that was cool too.
It would be awesome if Candy Canes were made at WDW on Main Street…. any possibility that this could happen in the future?
