Disney World’s BoardWalk Bakery always delights and surprises guests for the holidays with new treats and fun sweets. We couldn’t wait to see what they’d come up with this season!
Aaah… BoardWalk Bakery! 2013 was a big year for this beloved snack stop! In April, it reopened after a lengthy refurbishment, offering much more space to hold all those tasty treats!
Home to the classic Cheesecake Brownie and the new Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie, it’s now also home to one of the first standout specialty cupcakes of the holiday season: The Peppermint Cupcake!
It was easy to spot this standout in the bakery case, finding its place next to a couple of the Bakery’s tried-and-trues: Oreo Bon Bon and Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes.
It’s hard to say which was more intriguing at first glance… the crème de menthe candy pieces popping out from the top, or the fact that this cupcake totally sparkles!
Let’s take a closer look!
We just have to talk about that frosting first, because it truly is a sight. It’s primarily white, but as your turn it around you begin to notice touches of pale pink, all dusted with silvery sugar-glitter.
The flavor is light vanilla (I think I also detected a hint of white chocolate) with just a touch of peppermint, and is complemented with glittery white chocolate mint shavings sprinkled all around the bottom of the frosting layer.
It is just so pretty. It reminded me of the way snow glistens… and anything that can do that when Central Florida humidity is hovering around 90% deserves some recognition :).
The only part of the cupcake untouched by peppermint flavor is the chocolate base. And that’s just fine, because what’s in the middle more than makes up for that…
As charmed as I was by the appearance of this cupcake, the filling is the real star. The flavor is, again, white chocolate and peppermint. But instead of taking a backseat, the peppermint is absolutely the primary flavor here.
While the consistency is smooth and creamy (the texture reminded me of a no-bake cheesecake), the flavor is nearly full-on Candy Cane!
Together with the cake and the frosting, it’s a dream for anyone who adores the combo of chocolate and mint. It’s like Peppermint Bark in a cupcake :).
If you’re looking for a terrific way to ring in the holiday season at Disney World, a trip to BoardWalk Bakery should definitely be on your list.
Would you like to try the Peppermint Cupcake this year? Please let us know with a comment!

I had this cupcake last week, and LOVED it. I got it to go and even after sitting in our room fridge for several hours it was amazing. I loved that the icing was fluffy and creamy versus super heavy and sweet. To be honest, I also loved that it sparkled ;-)! The filling was a star for sure, and those pieces of bark on the top were great! It was my favorite cupcake of our trip!! Yum!

Chocolate and peppermint. Two of my favorite things in the food world. Will definitely be stopping by next week to try this one!

We just returned from our first family trip to Disney World.
Your suggestions were very helpful and probably caused us to gain five pounds!
The Boardwalk Bakery Peppermint Cupcakes were my absolute favorite. Are they made anywhere at the Disneyland Resort? If so, I would make an extra trip there just to have another one!
Thanks for making my parents’ fiftieth anniversary trip extra yummy!
