We’re back for more fun with a brand new version of our hit series, “The Best Thing I Ever Ate in Disney”!
With your awesome input, we had tons of fun exploring our favorite Disney food categories a looong time ago. But Disney keeps adding amazing new dishes, treats, and foods! And so, it’s time to revisit these questions and add some of our new, and enduring, favorites to the mix!
Today, we’ll get the day started off right just like we should — with some delicious Breakfast! I’ll let you know a few of my favorites…and then it’s your turn to chime with in YOUR votes for “The Best Thing I Ever Ate in Disney — Breakfast”!
Let’s get to crackin’! (Like…eggs. Crackin’ eggs. Get it? 🙂 )
Waffle with Whipped Mascarpone at Trattoria al Forno
It’s a breakfast classic coupled with a dessert indulgence… the Waffle with Whipped Mascarpone at Trattoria al Forno on Disney World’s BoardWalk!
The generous dollop of smooth, rich, whipped mascarpone topping the crisp-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside waffles provides a truly decadent way to start the day. With espresso flavoring the cream and a light dusting of cocoa powder on top, it’s much like eating a tiramisu-topped waffle.
And look… you can see the vanilla bean specks dotted throughout the cream!
Upon first glance, you may — like I did — think something’s missing, and you may be tempted to request some syrup on the side. Don’t.
This one’s terrific just as it is.
Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe
Classics become so for a reason. In Disney food circles, classics = awesomeness (and often over-the-topness) that just about everyone loves.
Case in point: Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe.
Thick, fluffy bread is stuffed with banana yum, before it’s battered and deep-fried. After a roll in a ton of cinnamon sugar, it’s delivered to our table with a hearty helping of strawberry compote, ready for your enjoyment. This is the stuff that breakfast dreams are made of, and I guarantee you it will keep you going for hours.
It’s handy that we’ve got a recipe for Tonga Toast for those in-between-Disney-trip cravings. And by the way, if you prefer breakfast on the go, you can also get Tonga Toast at Captain Cook’s Snack Company, the Polynesian’s counter service spot (it’s cheaper there!).
Pecan Caramel Bread Pudding at Boma
Ask Disney fans their favorite places for breakfast, and Boma is likely to be on top of many lists.
The buffet spread at Disney’s Animal Kingdom boasts a beautifully-themed dining area and lots of exotic eats that makes your first meal of the day extra-special.
You won’t often find French toast as part of the spread there, but if you’re looking for a little dessert with your breakfast (and really…who isn’t??), then you will lurve this French Toast Bread Pudding.
And there’s no better way to indulge in this sweet breakfast casserole than with a thick layer of caramel-y-good Pecan Praline Sauce poured over top. This was my major winner from my recent Boma breakfast. Wish I’d eaten this FIRST! Be sure to get a BIG glass of milk to go with this one.
Mickey Waffle at Grand Floridian Cafe
So…yes. You can get Mickey Waffles at lots of places at Disney. And I love them! There’s a reason that this little guy is the face of DFB Social Media 🙂
So good, with that crispy, malty goodness. And who can resist smiling back at that goofy expression?
But one of my favorite spots to grab one is Grand Floridian Cafe, where you can choose from two different versions: Multigrain or Malted. Guess which one I choose? Sprinkled with just a dusting of confectioner’s sugar, well..you know it’s just completely delicious.
And Now It’s Your Turn!
I really want to hear from you guys! What’s the Best Thing You Ever Ate in Disney for Breakfast in your book? What morning meal has you dreaming of coming to the breakfast table miles away from the Happiest Place on Earth?
Chime in below in the comments. I can’t wait to hear your Best Things!

A fresh batch of the puffed French toast at Crystal Palace is a pretty awesome thing. I always eat way too much of it 🙂
Cait says
HANDS down, The Samoan at the Kona Cafe for breakfast! I love my savory in the morning, so this smoked pulled pork with the poached eggs and hollandaise is the best amped up version of eggs benedict EVER. PLUS, the price of 9.99 in Disney was a fantastic value.
Sarah says
I love Akershoues breakfast!! The pastries are Devine, and the hot plate is fantastic especially the potato casserole!!! Yummmmm
Frank Stefanec says
Not available anymore but Disney used to have these jelly filled glazed up Mickey donuts. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED those!!!
Frank
JoAnn says
Beignets at French Quarter or Riverside.
Kristen says
Beignets at POFQ. A must for my kids!
Georgeanne says
Croissant berry pudding at Sunshine Seasons. A must have for me, and doesn’t weigh you down too much!
Rhonda says
For me it’s the stuffed french toast from Cinderella’s ? The restaurant inside the castle with all the princesses? I’ve DREAMED about it and spent many years trying to recreate the recipe at home!
Denise says
Love the macadamia nut pancakes at Kona Cafe! I have nothing but butter them, not even the pineapple stuff that comes with. They’re delicious!
Amy says
For me the best thing I ever ate is the scrambled eggs with goat cheese and spinach at Boma! I am not a big spinach eater and this dish is perfection Paired with the jungle juice and I am in taste bud heaven!!
Asuka says
The potatoes at ‘Ohana. Those things are absolutely amazing. I think we went through two plates of them during our breakfast.
Michelle P says
The macademia nut/pineapple pancakes at Kona! Oh my!! And in the parks, the breakfast sandwich (with pork) at Sunshine Seasons. The onion jam is SO GOOD!
Amanda says
I loved everything at the Wave’s breakfast buffet! My absolute favorite there was the cheddar and bacon grits. So good!
Brenda H says
The Citrus Pancakes at the Grand Floridian Cafe – oh my goodness! YUMMY!!!
Additionally, the Breakfast Pizza at Wolfgang Puck Express is very tasty. And now there are some great ideas to try next trip – esp the macademia pancakes…
Carrie Monts says
I LOVE the ginormous cinnamon rolls from Gaston’s and Michelle P is right – that pork sandwich from Sunshine Seasons is AMAZING too!
Kristina says
My whole family’s favorite is Pooh’s Puffed French Toast at Crystal Palace. I like mine with whipped cream and fresh berries on top 🙂 YUM!
Amy R says
Mine would have to be strawberry soup at 1900 park fare, I tried this for the first time in September and after hearing many fantastic reviews of this I had to try……..it did not disappoint!!!! we are booking another ADR for this September as this is now a must do for me!
John says
The Bacon Cheddar Grits from The Wave at the Contemporary, hands down, is by far the best breakfast item in all of WDW!
AnneMarie says
Definitely the Samoan at Kona….delish!!! Second would be the key lime crab cake eggs benedict at Olivia’s 🙂 Breakfast at the world is the best value, delicious meals at great prices!
Joni says
Breakfast Potato’s at Olivia’s found no where else. SO good.
Mandy Jansen says
I’m wonder about less carb-oriented, yet still highly delicious, favorite breakfast choices — perhaps egg-based or other high protein dishes? When I eat a high carb breakfast like one of these, I get very tired, which doesn’t work well for me on a day at the parks.
Kay says
The absolutely perfectly prepared Eggs Benedict at the Grand Floridian Café and the Big Kahuna at Kona Café are a must do every trip for me. Although I always need a sharing buddy for the Big Kahuna.
Pooh’s Puffed French Toast at Crystal Palace is wonderful but leaves me in a sugar coma.
Most missed breakfast item was the Sweet Potato Pancakes at Boatwright’s. So sad that they stopped serving breakfast there.
GD says
The vanilla laced french toast at the Grand Floridian Cafe – with a couple of mamosas – is tough to beat.
“Brioche Bread dipped in our Vanilla-flavored Batter served with Bacon or Sausage”
Katie says
The donuts and french toast bread pudding at Trails End, nothing better in the morning!!
JennM says
Breakfast lasagna at Crystal Palace! That’s the only thing I usually get seconds on. I also really liked the ham with that awesome mustard at Boma and Tusker House. I know it’s just a baked ham, but something about that mustard. And because we are at Disney, that makes everything taste better, right?!!?
Tam says
No matter what new things there are to try for breakfast at DLR, I keep coming back to Mickey beignets and a cup of black coffee. It just gives me the warm fuzzies.
But my favorite breakfast place has got to be Goofy’s Kitchen. All you can eat thick cut bacon, Mickey shaped waffles, and even pizza in the morning. I’m drooling just thinking about it.
Mamaleficent says
My table-service faves have already been mentioned, so I’ll go counter service: the waffle sandwiches at Sleepy Hollow. For a Magic Kingdom breakfast choice, there’s nothing better. As fresh as can be, perfect for sharing, and a great view of the castle while you eat!
Wendy says
My favorite is definitly the puffed French toast at Crystal Palace! That and the French toast bread pudding at Boma! My husband’s vote would probably go to the corned beef hash he had at Boma this past Dec. Boma is quickly becoming my favorite breakfast stop!
Ashley Wilson says
Mandy, I had a great Frittata at the Grand Floridian Cafe. Just eggs and veggies. It really hit the spot!
I love the fruit “plate” (Ok, a pineapple, actually) at Kona. We go to Kona every trip for breakfast on departure day. Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu there!
John says
Bring back breakfast at Tony’s Town Square Café.
SharonCW says
The Nutella and Fresh Fruit Waffle from Sleepy Hollow at the MK. I dream about that thing. And it’s covered in fresh fruit, so it’s healthy – at least that’s what I tell myself : )
Phil Wiese says
WHAT?!?!?! Where are the citrus pancakes?!?!?!?!?!
Karen says
I must admit, while looking at this article on my phone (where the pictures DON’T load), I saw the title “Tonga Toast with Bacon” and my heart skipped a beat…my first reaction was – THEY ARE NOW PUTTING BACON INSIDE THE TONGA TOAST??? I MUST RUN, NOT WALK, OVER TO THE POLY AND TRY THIS NEW ADDITION!…Sadly, (well maybe not so sad) – now that I am online I can actually see that the bacon is on the plate, and not IN the Toast (sigh, one can only dream).
On a side note: where is my beloved Breakfast Lasagna from Crystal Palace (GASP?????) I used to dream about that over the top craziness!
Katie says
On my last trip, we had breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table. The entire meal was great, but on the pastry plate before the meal, there were these cinnamon roll croissants. The one I had was warm, flaky and delicious. I don’t know what they were called, but they were fantastic!
Sandra says
We have never eaten a TS breakfast at WDW (Boma would be right up there at the top of the list though). My son never gets enough Mickey waffles, no fruit, just lots of syrup. My husband loves the fruit and yogurt parfaits so much he eats them for breakfast (one snack credit!) AND for his dessert with dinners when we eat at the resort food court. Perfect for those looking for a lighter start. But for a filling, low-cost breakfast (not for dieters) we favor the biscuits and sausage gravy. Yes, you can get that pretty much anywhere, but for only a single snack credit (or under $4.00 cash) its a great start to a hard day at the parks with a mug of coffee (now that they are actually serving real coffee).
What we wish they still served was breakfast pizza. We always went to Epcot early to eat it at the Electric Umbrella. Sitting outside with the birdies, enjoying the combo of eggs, cheese and bacon on a crust was a wonderful beginning to our World Tour.
Deena says
Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes at Kona Cafe. Decadent, scrumptious and filling! Throw in a side of yummy sausage and a pot of pressed coffee and you have the ultimate vacation breakfast:-)
Desirae F says
The giant cinnamon roll from Gaston’s Tavern!!! With a Lafou’s Brew of course. Yum!!!
Antonella Cosentini says
The bread pudding at Raglan Road!
Alexis says
The gluten free beignets at Port Orleans French Quarter are definitely one of my favorites.
Jon says
Breakfast isn’t usually my “go to” meal for thinking about awesome dining experiences. I’m generally a simple some type of eggs+hot sauce+breakfast meat = yum sort of person. But, two that stand out to me from our last trip were the Lobster Eggs Benedict at 1900 Park and the really interesting traditional fish selections at Akershus.
Joan Cole says
I would love to see a “best paleo/grain-free options” post at this blog… Where can I get the most meat and veg for breakfast?
Liza @ Views From the 'Ville says
I know it sounds funny, but the first time I took my now-husband to Disney (it was only his 3rd visit) we ate breakfast on main street at the Magic Kingdom. We shared one of the croissant breakfast sandwiches and he still raves about it to this day. He’s a big croissant fan and said those were the most airy, flaky and buttery he’d ever had. Even though we later had dinner at Le Cellier at Epcot, that breakfast ranks high on his list of our Disney trip.
Desi says
For something on the go, hands down the waffle breakfast sandwich at Sleepy Hollow in Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square.
Constance says
This Saturday my daughter and I will be having breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom…Suggestions for the best breakfast for Mom please????
Rachel Dillin says
I absolutely agree with you on the French toast bread pudding at Boma. . . OMG! My favorite meal from my entire 8 day trip was breakfast at Boma, and that French toast bread pudding with the praline drizzle was a HUGE part of the reason why.
Tracy Green says
Pooh’s Puffed French toast at The Crystal Palace. Had it on our trip last week for the first time. Yum. Wish I had some right now!
Anne says
Another vote for the Samoan at Kona Cafe. Pulled pork and poached egg HEAVEN with Hollandaise sauce on top!
Faith says
I’ve never met a breakfast at Disney World that I didn’t like LOL
Patty says
Definitely the puffed french toast at the Crystal Palace!!! LOVE it!
Taricia says
Every time we are at WDW, we love eating breakfast at the Grand Floridan,, 500 Park Fare. We absolutely LOVE the lobster egg benedict. We don’t get nothing else hardly, we go straight to them! I would love to learn how to make them at home.
