So, there’s this trend that keeps popping up over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and we couldn’t be happier about it: seasonal cupcakes can be found pretty much all-year ‘round!
The Fall brought us the Pumpkin Cupcake with Maple Icing, and the holiday season brought us the return of the Gingerbread Cupcake. And they’re starting this year off with a bang… introducing the Blueberry Cupcake with Lemon Cream Cheese Icing!
First things first: before you can dig in, you’ve gotta know where to find it. Fortunately (as with most Hollywood Studios specialty cupcakes), you can find them in several Counter Service locations all around the park, including: Toy Story Pizza Planet, Fairfax Fare, ABC Commissary, Backlot Express, and the Studios resident cupcake haven, Starring Rolls Cafe.
Just look for this sign:
The exception to this rule, however, is Starring Rolls. In this case, just look for the cupcakes 🙂 .
The best thing about seeing it in person, is that — much like the Gourmet Cake Cups found at Magic Kingdom’s Cheshire Café — I feel that the “live” appearance of the cupcake exceeds the picture on the sign.
In fact, I looked at it from several angles, just to enjoy all the colors 🙂 .
Let’s take it from the top… because, in this case, the top is especially cool! The Sorcerer Mickey’s hat (which is obviously an homage to the Park’s icon and, of course, Sorcerer Mickey himself) is made of milk chocolate. This piece is seriously thick and generous in size.
Next up in the eye-catcher department are the colorful and ample chocolate shavings sprinkled all over the icing. (If you look closely, you’ll spy some Mickey sprinkles, too.) They just look like spring, and make the thing so pretty you almost don’t want to cut into it.
I say “almost,” of course, because you totally want to cut into it, because you just have to taste the wonder that is Lemon Cream Cheese Icing.
I’m going to wait a moment to show you the center of the cupcake because the icing alone deserves its own moment in the spotlight. Nicely dense and creamy, and super citrus-y… it’s almost like this cupcake was topped with a slice of lemon cheesecake! And the chocolate sprinkles give each bite a yummy little bit of unexpected texture.
The cake base is where things take an unexpected turn. My best guess before cutting the cupcake in half was a cake sprinkled with bits of blueberry – something akin to a blueberry muffin. The cake, however, is a simple, moist vanilla.
I’m sure you’re as surprised as I was about the blueberry component. There was just a small bit of blueberry filling at the bottom – not in the center as with most cupcake fillings at Disney. I’m guessing here, but I think something may have gone wrong with the making of my particular cupcake.
I’m assuming that the filling was meant to be in the center, and that there should be more of it — akin to the Lemon Blueberry cupcake over at the Boardwalk Bakery. That’s just what the name “Blueberry Cupcake” implies… right? I’d really like to hear from others who try this cupcake to find out if mine was an anomaly.
As for the blueberry filling I did have, it was good – nicely sweet and tart at the same time, and the mixture was smooth. There just wasn’t much of it to speak of.
The final verdict? For me, this one is still very much a GO. Here’s why: the stellar icing on top of the vanilla base was an absolutely fantastic combo. My experience with this one reminds me of how I feel about the Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake , also found at Starring Rolls. I can take or leave Red Velvet (“WHAT?!?” I know, I know… I’m in the minority on this), but I am in love with that cupcake because the topping is SO out-of-this-world.
And it’s the same thing here… I would order this again in a heartbeat. If anything, this is simply a case of a misnomer: if my job title was “Namer of Cupcakes”, this one would be called Lemon Cream Cheese Heaven and Also There’s Cake.
Which, come to think of it, might be the reason no one’s offered me the job. 😉
Again, it would be great to hear from any others who have tried it regarding the center… or anything else about it! We’d love to know what you think!
Would you like to try this latest Hollywood Studios cupcake creation? Please let us know with a comment!

Do you think they will have them in May? I have just have to have one. 🙂

Wow- your pics are great! Thanks for the heads up on this special treat!

The missus and I were at MGM last week and these were everywhere. I would say at least half the people when we sat down to eat lunch had them. I’m not a blueberry fan so we passed but these seem to be very popular.

Oh my goodness…I’m a sucker for anything lemon and blueberry! Yum!
Angelina says
Perhaps the blueberry preserves or whatever they used was very dense and it just fell to the bottom. I think that stuffing the cupcake after it has been baked may be a better way to go?? Either way it looks like the frosting is reason enough to try it though. 🙂

Hate to be the Negative Nancy in the room, but $5.19 plus tax for ONE cupcake?!? I hope it really is THAT good! Seriously, Disney! I have loved all of your food, but this kind of pricing truly hurts me.

Had one of these on Friday and I thought it was quite delicious!!! It is pricey, but we were on the DDP, so I was happy to take advantage of the opportunity to have it as my dessert 😉 I could go for another one right now…….

I will be there tomorrow and want to try this so badly!!! I’m a HUGE fan of the sorcerer’s hat (on and off of Mickey)! Looks delectable! BTW, to Crystal… yes, they are pricey, but I have to say, they are also HUGE! Almost all of the pricey cupcakes are big enough to share!

I have my fingers crossed this one is still available in November! It seems amazingly good!

I had this over the weekend and its as good as it looks! I had the same comments about lack of blueberries and frosting as stated here. But overall, this was awesome.
I recommend Chocolate Milk (or Yeungling) to wash it down

It does look delicious; I love both blueberry and lemon and this just looks like a great cupcake with an extra chocolate treat on the top! I do have to agree, however, that prices (not just at Disney) are getting outrageous. It’s going to be hard to pick out a cupcake treat when visiting the parks with all of these choices, but for now, my favorite is still the DHS Mocha Cappuccino from Pizza Planet.

Looks fantastic! We will be there in May. Do you think they will still be available? And does it count as a snack credit on the dining plan?

How dare you say such a thing Nanette! Sharing a cupcake? You should never speak of such atrocities! Cupcakes are NOT shareable, unless you think you’re ready to lose that first finger that touches my sweet dessert…
Joking aside, they usually are pretty big. I still won’t share, but I do feel that the price is worth most of these unique one-of-a-kind cupcakes. Most are about the mass of two or three normal cupcakes. Photos always make them look smaller. Check out this photo I took of the famous White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake in Animal Kingdom: http://www.pbase.com/jeffklee13/image/150219274. I used a dollar bill to reference size. Now pull a bill out and realize how tall a cupcake is that reaches over half the height of a bill (excluding the chocolate elephant topper). While the bill isn’t directly behind the cupcake, I can also assure you that the cupcake was significantly wider than the dollar as well. These aren’t your every day cupcakes.

Jenny and Tiffany – I’m not sure, but my suspicion is that in May Hollywood Studios will be featuring a cupcake in honor of Star Wars Weekends (well, at least once the events kick off on May 16th). I’d say it never hurts to check Starring Rolls, though – they always offer more than just the featured cupcake, so you never know if this one might make the rotation. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! (Tiffany – good news! It does count as a snack credit on the Dining Plan).
Mike – thanks for the comparison with your experience, it’s appreciated! Glad to know it didn’t dampen your enjoyment (as you can tell, it didn’t dampen mine, either 😉 ).
Essie – excellent choice! The Mocha Cappuccino is still on the menu there, too!
Jeff – GREAT pic!!! I love the height comparison. I didn’t share mine, either ;). Though, Nanette, you are correct, they are great for sharing. I may or may not have sat down with a couple of friends and split up all four Starring Rolls cupcakes once… for breakfast ;).

Count me in that minority on the Red Velvet cupcake. I wouldn’t reject it if offered but it’s not my favorite either. Your name for this guy is way better!
Wendy says
V 🙂 — you know, the funny thing is that I used to think I was into Red Velvet… then I realized that Red Velvet is typically covered with a cream cheese frosting of some sort and it dawned on me at some point that is was the frosting I was all excited about instead… Ha :)! Glad you like the name!

Cant wait to try one will be there in two weeks

Went to Disney Worlds Hollywood Studios and I also tried this cupcake!!! Best cupcake ever! It was beautiful And loved the flavors. I also noticed the blueberries were on the bottom but it was still tasty and I thought it was well worth the $5.00 price would but one again in a heartbeat !!
Nanette says
I got this cupcake on Sunday. It is a pretty cupcake, no argument there! My cupcake did look very similar to yours, Wendy. The blueberry was almost non-existent in my cupcake, but the lemon icing alone was worth the $5.19!!! It was beyond delectable! And Jeff, I did share! Yes, I could have eaten the entire cupcake, but half was plenty! This cupcake IS an option for a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan, which is a great value! I would definitely buy this again!
Beth says
Had one last week 2/24 and it was DELISH!!!! The blueberry was on the bottom as well and the icing is probably the best icing I’ve ever tasted! Btw I traditionally hate icing because it’s too sweet or fake tasting but this was awesome!
