News on the Disney Springs front!
The mega food outlet occupied by Pollo Campero, Bodie’s All-American, and Babycakes NYC has an official closing date now. The Downtown Disney Marketplace spot will shutter its doors on Wednesday, March 19.
The combo restaurant will close to make way for the continued re-imagining of the Downtown Disney area as it morphs into Disney Springs.
Speculation has abounded regarding what businesses and restaurants will survive and make it through to Disney Springs. Already we have seen the rollout of four food trucks — portending the closure of some restaurants while capitalizing on a hot trend at the same time.
Pollo Campero, Bodie’s All-American, and Babycakes NYC join the casualty list that also includes Cap’n Jack’s, which closed for good in 2013. The waterside seafood restaurant had been around nearly since the dawn of Disney World time, having opened in 1975.
Opinions have been mixed about Pollo Campero (see our review here), a chain offering Latin American flavors, and Bodie’s, which features burgers and other American fare.
The closure of Babycakes NYC is likely to be more impactful.
The New York-based bakery specializes in gluten-free and vegan baked goods, which also do not contain refined sugar. As the number of Disney guests following special diets continues to increase, we’ll be interested to see how Disney answers the demand for specialty items if the closure of Babycakes NYC is permanent.
We’re watching, and we’ll keep you posted.
Select shops and food courts at various Disney resorts will continue to carry BabyCakes NYC products for the immediate future.
Will you miss Pollo Campero, Bodie’s All American, or Babycakes NYC? Leave a comment and let us know how the closure will impact you.

Well, that stinks! We visit Babycakes every year we come in from Tulsa and it is a favorite of our now 7yo with life threatening food allergies. In a place that is about kids and families and seeing that 1 in 4 children have food allergies, I think this is a big fail to be without. Especially when you have other dessert type shops that we can only look at and never get to enjoy. This let us be like everyone else, and allow our son to have an amazing treat like all the other kids.

We continue to see Babycakes products offered at various places throughout the resort, like the Gardens Kiosk at Animal Kingdom and some Disney Resorts.

We are coming over for a conference next week & Babycakes was to be a daily highlight of our trip. I. Am. Bereft. My daughter & I both have many allergies, yet have found their items to be delicious & such treats for us. To not have them will severely impact our trip. Not sure what I’ll be getting us for breakfast daily. :*(

Very disappointed to see baby cakes closing. I was especially looking forward to bringing my son here, as he has a severe allergy to dairy. This would have been a wonderful treat for him. We are very limited to what he can eat, and this was one safe place for him. : (

We are Disney annual pass holders. Dropped in for a cupcake at Baby Cakes and was very dissappointed to see them gone. I hope you will bring them back there are not enough delicious gluten free dairy free fresh baked deserts in Disney World . This is going to be sought after by many , Big market Baby boomers are coming with special needs. Disney do your homework!

Ate at Pollo Campero in September 2013 and was surprised they hadn’t shut it down sooner. It was filthy. The booth seats were old and ripped, and there was old, caked-on food on the window dividers. Couldn’t even eat the food, as the seating area was so disgusting.

We had disney passes and would travel from daytona twice a month to get Babycakes. I have major food allergies and this was the only place I could go to a store and buy sweets….

Very sad about Baby Cakes!! This was a need for us and so many others that has so many food allergies!! So much for me as a mom getting a break from cooking treats and breakfast on vaca. It’s hard enough to find food!!! Thankfully chick fil a has grilled nuggets. So Disney, what are you going to do about this?

I’m a Disney passholder and a vegan. I used to go to Babycakes everytime I was at Downtown Disney! They have THE BEST vegan goodies. I knew they had closed at DT Disney, but I thought I could still get Babycakes at the Boardwalk bakery. I called today to ask if I could order cupcakes and I was told the only item they have there is the Babycakes brownie bites. I am very sad about losing my favorite place for cupcakes and cookie sandwiches!! 🙁

SERIOUSLY! We are coming to Disney in Dec.2014– JUST FOR BABYCAKES! We are vacationing in Sarasota and decided to stop for a few days (since I have crazy food allergies)– was going to get my “fix.” Additionally, All I bragged about was the delicious cupcakes to my sis-in-law’s sister, who is there RIGHT NOW! UGH! What a huge let down! 🙁
Terri Montano says

I loved the Falafel sandwich at Pollo Campero/Bodies, and will miss it a lot, will there be any options for vegetarians visiting Downtown Disney?
Please let the people at Disney know that a percentage of their visitors is vegetarian and they are being left with no viable option in Downtown Disney or in the Parks, For now I will no longer visit the place, for lack of alternatives to eat there.
