We’re wandering the World in search of eats, sweets, and all sorts of treats! Join us for another trip around the World to find out What’s New!
HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
Frozen Summer Fun
In case you haven’t heard, Frozen Summer Fun is happening all over Hollywood Studios!
And of course this event includes a few extra snacks inspired by the film and its characters, such as specialty cupcakes (we loved the Olaf Carrot Cake), Sugar Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches, and specialty drinks.
Check out our review of the Frozen eats here!
Disney Restaurant Refurbishments
Amidst the wintery fun, changes for the future are happening at Hollywood Studios, too. Rumor has it that the L.A. Prop Cinema Storage shop might just be the next Starbucks stop in the Parks. The refurbishment is scheduled to last until March 2015.
Stormtrooper Steins
Even if you missed Star Wars Weekends, you may not have entirely missed your opportunity to pick up some of the goodies! On a very recent visit, we spotted the Stormtrooper Souvenir Steins still available at Hey Howdy Hey Takeaway!
No telling how long they’ll last, so grab one while you still can!
EPCOT
Future World
is currently serving Grilled Fish Tacos.
Looks like a future lunch to me!
World Showcase
Moving to World Showcase, the Refreshment Port is best known for being the current home of the Cronut, both regular and a la mode.
However, it’s also recently added a new cocktail to its list of alcoholic beverages: the Dragon Berry Refresher featuring Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum.
Mexico
In Mexico’s La Cava del Tequila, the Summer Special is the Ambhar Tamarindo Margarita, featuring Ambhar Blanco Tequila, tamarind pulp, orange liqueur and agave nectar. Oh, and a chili powder rim – YOW!
We’re always happy to have a reason to spend some extra time at La Cava, and it looks like there is more opportunity to do just that. The Epcot After Hours Wind Down event has been extended at all four of the original venues: La Cava del Tequila, Rose & Crown, Spice Road Table, and Tutto Gusto.
Originally slated to run through mid-September, bookings are now available through November 9th on Thursdays through Sundays (with the exception of Saturday, November 8, due to the Wine & Dine Half Marathon).
Norway
If you head over Norway’s Kringla Bakeri og Kafe, you’ll notice a couple of new things in the bakery case, but the most eye-catching of the two isn’t food. They’ve somehow managed to tuck an entire scene from “Frozen” complete with characters in the right-hand corner of the bakery case!
But back to food… the new item here is S’mores in a glass!
We’ll have a review for you soon, but in the meantime you can read all about it in our DFB Guide to Epcot Snacks, 2014 Edition!
Italy
Guests in Epcot’s Italy Pavilion can now grab an Italian Fruit Soda amongst the ever-changing items at what we like to call the Donkey Cart.
France
Vive la France! L’Artisan des Glaces debuted a new Vanilla Ice Cream Macaron Sandwich featuring the colors of the French flag – red, white, and blue. Check out our review here!
Why just enjoy one new treat at L’Artisan des Glaces when you can enjoy two? We also tried the brand new Cinnamon, Caramelized Apple & Crumble Crunch ice cream. And may I say… YUM!!!
MAGIC KINGDOM
Bonjour Village Gifts
I about lost in when I stopped in Bonjour Village Gifts (right next to Gaston’s Tavern) in New Fantasyland, and saw the Chip Tea Cup in real life for the first time.
Previously, I’ve only seen our little teacup friend on MickeyFix.com., but until now he has always eluded me in person. Super cute!
Beverage Souvenirs
Options are expanding all over Magic Kingdom for places to get your Olaf Souvenir Cup. Pinocchio Village Haus is where you can fill your Olaf Cup with a Lemonade or Blue Raspberry Slush.
But they have another new drink souvenir as well: the Maleficent Light-up Swizzle Stick!
More Frozen Treats
You know you’ve reached iconic character status when you’re featured on a Walt Disney World lollipop.
Congratulations, Anna and Elsa!
Frozen treats continue to expand in the Magic Kingdom bakery cases at Big Top Treats and the Main Street Confectionery as well.
A little off-topic from food, but the Frozen Summer Fun event at Hollywood Studios seems to be alleviating the lines to meet Anna and Elsa at Magic Kingdom, at least a bit. The line was only 90 minutes long the other morning (I use the word “only,” since I haven’t seen it under 200 minutes since they first showed up at Princess Fairytale Hall!).
While the Casey’s Batter Up! Souvenir Cup isn’t really new, it looks like they’re trying to get the word out about it at Casey’s Corner with these extra-huge signs.
Have you seen the Batter Up Cups? They are pretty sweet…
DOWNTOWN DISNEY
Splitsville Luxury Lanes
is offering a new “Early Bird” bowling special: from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm on Monday-Friday, adults can bowl for $12, and children for $7.
Please note that blackout dates apply.
RESORTS
Contemporary Resort
Not to be outdone by Anna and Elsa on the Frozen cupcakes housed in the same bakery case ;), Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb can now be found on a Cherry Chocolate Cupcake at the Contempo Café.
But this isn’t the first time Contempo has dabbled with this flavor combo. Remember the Black Forest Cupcake?
A few new items have arrived on the menu at The Wave… of American Flavors. Appetizers currently include a Seasonal Florida Strawberry Soup. A Maine Lobster Roll has been added to the Lunch menu.
Due to its focus on seasonal and sustainable foods, the menu at The Wave changes more frequently than most Table Service restaurants, so it’s always a fun thing to check out the choices on your visit!
Polynesian Resort
Amidst many other changes over at ‘Ohana, the Mixed Greens Salad is currently off the menu.
Grand Floridian
Guests dining with Cinderella and Prince Charming at Cinderella’s Happily After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare have two new options: a Pork Brisket with mango salsa and crispy plantains has replaced the Spice-crusted Salmon. Asian-style ribs have been added as well.
While the Garden View Tea Room undergoes a refurbishment, Afternoon Tea at is taking place just upstairs at Citricos.
Yacht & Beach Club
When you’re deciding which cut of steak you’d prefer at Yachtsman Steakhouse, you may be shocked by the $110.00 Porterhouse listed on the top line (gulp!). Upon closer inspection, though, you’ll notice it’s a 32 ounce Porterhouse for two.
That’s it for this round! May you have many reasons to celebrate the friends, family, and food in your life…
Until next time, Eat and Be Happy!
Have you spotted anything new during a recent trip around the World? We’d love to hear about it in a comment!
Erin says
FYI – Those Frozen novelty cups were also available on the Wonder last week (and I assume on the other DCL ships as well). They had them at Preludes near the Walt Disney Theater, filled with any soda.
SallyO says
Do you know of any place in WDW excluding EPCOT to get a cronut?
Stephanie says
I have been waiting for the Chip mugs to come back in stock for weeks and was pleasantly surprised to find him today at the Magic Kingdom! Now I just have to find somewhere to put him since my Beauty and the Beast shelf is at capacity.
I am looking forward to trying the new apple crumble ice cream at EPCOT. I have a feeling it would be quite tasty in the brioche bun. YUM!
I was at HS the other day and forgot to look for the Arendelle punch. Hopefully I remember when I head back in a few weeks. I saw some of the Frozen treats (snowballs, reindeer cookies, and marshmallow Olaf) at Goofy’s Candy Co. at Downtown Disney.
Wendy says
Erin — How cool! I hope you had a terrific time on the Wonder. I’ve never seen that ship, but would love to!
SallyO — Hi! I’ve heard that they’ve had cronuts at The Mara in Animal Kingdom Lodge on occasion, but I have somehow missed them on each of my visits, so I think they’re still pretty rare.
Stephanie — SO glad you were able to get a Chip mug! I was pretty stunned when I saw them, because I’m sure the fly off the shelves pretty quickly :). Thanks for the scoop on the Downtown Frozen treats, too!
Maureen says
Reading the Disney Food Blog gets me more excited every day for our upcoming trip to the World (I know, Florida in August, we must be crazy!). Thanks for whetting our appetites for all things Disney!
Essie says
I like the Chip teacup very much. I wish I was down there right now so I could I could take advantage of a lot of these things, but my trip is long off in the future. 🙁 I did enjoy going thru your article though, so thank you!
Sarah says
Can you actually drink from those Chip cups or are they just decorative? I’d also like to see a review of the Perry Chocolate Cherry cupcake as it sounds delicious.
Janelliz says
Are you sure the salad is off the menu completely?
I have read on a few Disney blogs and forums that they no longer give it to you but you have to ask. Apparently many people were wasting the salad.
Wendy says
Sarah — Hi! You can drink from the Chip cups :), however, it (or “he” ? 😉 ) is not microwave or dishwasher safe.
Janelliz — Thanks for your comment! I’ve just recently been hearing something similar (people having luck by requesting salad), so I’m hoping that’s the case. I haven’t been able to confirm it officially with anyone at ‘Ohana yet, though, so I’m hoping to find out more on my next visit :).
Jennifer says
I can’t wait to try the cronut! Does anyone know if it’s better to get the Cronut a la mode?
Lisa says
Do snack carts around the parks have any new designs on their souvenir plastic drink mugs? I love collecting these cute mugs. Its always the first thing I do when entering the Magic Kingdom is head straight for the snack cart at the castle hub to get my souvenir popcorn bucket & soda in that souvenir mug! I get so excited seeing what they will look like!! 🙂
So does anyone have photos of the 2015 drink mugs? Thanks
