UPDATE: According to WDW cast members, these cones were removed from the menu at Hollywood Studios. In the meantime, get your bread cones year-round — including the Mac and Cheese Bread Cone — at Disney California Adventure’s Cozy Cone Motel in Disneyland!
Have you ever found yourself in this scenario: sitting in the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater, waiting for Fantasmic! – the nighttime spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios — to begin?
If you are planning to see Fantasmic! (the official show title has an exclamation point in the name, which moving forward I’ll omit for your ease of reading :), you should know that it’s best to arrive well before show time, especially if you are attending the first show of the evening.
So, what should you do in the meantime? Aside form join in The Wave, of course… which you can — and should — do.
But when you’re not Wave-ing, you might as well eat! Fortunately, there are oodles of opportunities around the amphitheater to do just that.
Prior to moving directly into the amphitheater, there are a couple of stands serving up snacks such as Mickey ice cream bars, roasted nuts, frozen lemonade cups, churros, Mickey pretzels, and the like.
Cast Members also wander the outside and inside of the amphitheater right up until show time, carrying items like popcorn and cotton candy, which somehow adds to the festive vibe.
Once you head into the amphitheater, there are two large concession stands in the back, both by the name of Hollywood Hills Amphitheater Refreshment. They have the same menu, so you can just head to the one closest to where you are seated.
You’ll find an extended menu from what you’ll see in the outer snacks stands, and on this visit, my husband and I decided to try something we hadn’t previously: the Bread Cones, which come in your choice of Fiesta Chili-Cheese or Macaroni and Cheese.
Bread Cone dishes have been a huge hit in Disneyland ever since they made their debut in Cars Land at Cozy Cone Motel. But the Bread Cones at Fantasmic are noteworthy because this is the only place you can find them at Disney World currently. Previously you could grab them at Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner and Marketplace Snacks (a snack kiosk in Downtown Disney), but that’s no longer the case.
Ever since I realized they have them here, I’ve had my eye on the Macaroni and Cheese Bread Cone.
It’s presented to you in a medium-size drink cup, and this really helps it feel more secure when you’re weaving through a lot of people back to your seat. It’s also helpful since typically each party designates a “snack runner” while someone else holds the bench :).
The “with chips” mentioned on the menu are a bag of Lay’s Potato Chips.
When I removed the cone from its cup, I was really surprised by the portion. I don’t know if it comes across in the picture, but this thing is pretty huge!
I should mention that the Cast Member checked to be sure I wanted bacon on it when I placed my order. If I recall correctly, my answer was, “Yes, please. Woo!” (I’m not kidding. Sometimes I lose all sense of decorum when it comes to bacon.)
The cone was full-to-overflowing with all sorts of Disney mac-and-cheese goodness. Perfectly ooey, gooey, and cheesy, and that bacon pile from the top dispersed well throughout.
Loved. It.
My husband chose the Fiesta Chili-Cheese Bread Cone.
He thought the chili was full of flavor flavor and enjoyed the mild spice, and really liked the addition of the jalapenos on top even more than he thought he would.
The chili isn’t just meat – you can spy and taste the beans and corn in there. And, of course, it’s all topped with melting cheese.
While I loved my Mac and Cheese, we both thought the bread itself paired more naturally with the chili. As he tore through it, it was terrific when dipped into the chili, like a chip.
Regarding both dishes, the cones were exactly the same – the bread was soft and pliable, while still being sturdy and thick enough to hold everything inside without worry of food or sauce leakage.
We held one up from the bottom so you could check it out.
Also, both bread cone dishes were seriously hearty. I didn’t walk into Fantasmic expecting a stick-to-your-ribs meal, but that’s what I ended up with.
My husband made a good point, though: while we were both surprised at how much we enjoyed our bread cones, he labeled them as “somewhat climate inappropriate” for an August evening. Basically, you’re downing chili or hot mac while evening temps can still hover in the 80s. But he also shared that he would absolutely get this again on any one of those picture-perfect nights during the cooler months.
Once we finished snapping pictures, it was time to bring what we had left to enjoy in the amphitheater while we waited for the show to begin. I learned something on the evening of our visit: I’m not talented at pyrotechnic photography ;).
But I’d still like to try to bring a little “Fantasmic” to your day (I! LOVE! THIS! SHOW!), so here are a few of my attempts. If you’ve never seen Fantasmic and don’t want to know anything before you see it with your own eyes, you should stop scrolling now 🙂 .
My very favorite part is when the boat with about 9 million of our closest Disney pals appears as if from nowhere, captained by Steamboat Willie himself!
Thanks again, Mickey, for saving the day 🙂 ! You’re the TOPS!
Would you like to enjoy a Bread Cone while watching Fantasmic? Please let us know with a comment!
Ellen Goodman says
Oh my GOODNESS!!! Those look so yummy!!! I can’t wait to get back to Disney World and enjoy one of those at Fantasmic!
Ellen Goodman says
I just thought about this question, do you know if this is a quick service meal option/credit?
Mandi says
This will be a perfect treat for my trip in mid-November!
Gigi says
It seems strange to pair this with a bag of potato chips. Did the chili cheese version also come with them? Nacho chips or even Fritos seems more natural, but it doesn’t sound like you even need them based on the size of the cone. I would definitely try the mac and cheese version. I wonder if you could request the bacon on the side…
Kelly M says
I seriously had the Fantasmic music for the Steamboat Willie section playing in my head while I looked at the pics! I love this show too!!!!
Michelle P says
Now, if we could just get them to bring over the breakfast cone from CarsLand!
Jill Curtis says
Can you run into the F! area to buy one if you are not planning on seeing the show?
Brittany says
This is great news! We’ll be there in late October and I was totally bummed when I realized they had been taken off the menu at Min & Bill’s. Hopefully they will count as a quick service option on the dining plan.
Joni says
Ok not a food questions but Seeing those light up ear hats reminds me. How in the heck do you keep them on? They are so heavy and if you look up or down forget it. I think a re-vamp is in order.
Amy says
These look great!
(“Exclamation” not “explanation”)
Mary says
Hi, Does anyone know where to get the recipes for the cones or pineapple upside down bunt cake.? Thanks
Greg says
Are these available anywhere else in Disneyworld? Or available outside of Fantasmic Show Times at DHS?
Clarissa says
Wow, these look delicious! but more like something I’d eat as a lunch than a snack. I have a very tiny stomach hahaha
Wendy says
Ellen — I don’t think the Fantasmic concession stands take counter service credits, unfortunately — just the snack credits for those designated items. Hope you’re still able to enjoy one, though!
Gigi – You’re right, the chips were a bit of a weird pairing, mostly for the reason you mentioned — the serving was big enough that I didn’t need them. So, the nice thing was they packed easily for later :). Also, I don’t see why they couldn’t put the bacon on the side, since they’re made to order. Enjoy!
Joni — I know what you mean. I don’t have a pair of those ears myself, but have tried them on and you’re right, they are very heavy. I do like sitting near people wearing them, though. Kind of cool to see 🙂
Amy — Thanks so much for the catch :)! I’ll update the text — whoops!
Essie says
They both look good, but I think I’d rather enjoy the chili-cheese cone without the peppers, please. You’re right that they look more like a meal. I know that they would be enough to fill me up; they do like a good size. BTW, Wendy, I think your Fantasmic photos turned out great. Thanks for sharing!
Wendy says
Greg — They used the be in a couple of other spots in WDW (one in DHS and one in Downtown Disney), but for now, they’re only at Fantasmic. Will definitely be keeping an eye out for other spots!
Jill — I’m sorry I missed your question before — I just saw it :). You can leave the amphitheater area without watching the show. I think the only thing to be aware of, though, is that sometimes the show does end up being standing room only even as early as a half hour before the show starts on a busy night, so sometimes getting in can be difficult without waiting in line. I believe these specific concession stands open a half hour before showtime.
Essie — I know, the peppers would have been a lot for me, too ;). I think, though, like with the bacon, you can ask that they not be included. Thanks so much, too, for your kind words :)!
Cassie says
Oh my! Thank you for taking the time to review the bacon topped mac & cheese bread cone! One will be in my near future! 9 days! WOO!
Chey says
I used to work at Fantasmic and can tell you that they don’t take counter service credits, only snack credits. Also, if you ask for no chips then they will be about 2 dollars less! You can get no jalepeños or no bacon on it! However, they may not put bacon on the side just because some nights they aren’t provided with small cups! Also, be prepared to wait in line for at least 15 minutes if you aren’t one of the first people in the amphitheater!
Summer says
Mmmm, the mac n cheese one looks really good, but my first thought was like your husband’s…can’t imagine wanting to eat that outdoors in the hot months!!
Penny says
They both look amazing! Unfortunately, we’ll be seeing the show after a meal at Hollywood and Vine! I wish they sold them other places, I would def get one! As to your photography: are you using a digital camera? The reason I ask, is that my pictures come out about the same, maybe a little more blurry, and I have a Canon Power Shot SX20IS (Yeah, whatever). I really would like to know how to take pictures like I see from others, but believe, that I would need a different camera, or multiple attachments. I have a setting, that says it’s for fireworks, but they usually come out blurry. Occasionally, I will get a shot I like, and I say I will enlarge it and frame it when I get home (Again, whatever). All my pictures are on my computer waiting to be printed out…..Someday……
Garrett Dunnewold says
I’m curious if you can buy the bread cone alone without the chips. You could when they had them at Min and Bill’s, and it cost $2 less without the chips, which I thought was great because that tiny bag of chips really isn’t worth $2. You can actually do this with many other quick service restaurants at Disney too, although they don’t advertise it.
Christina says
Is this also available in Florida or just California? I need one
Shara says
Definitely adding this to my list of must haves!
KeepOurFreedoms says
Too hot to eat chili and jalapeno peppers in 80 degree heat? LOL Don’t come to Texas in the summer. We love our chili and jalapeno peppers any time. Even hot mac and cheese sounds good too.
Greg says
Didn’t see them at Fantasmic during Villians last week?
Jackie says
Oh, how I wish I had seen this a month ago! I was SOOOOOO looking forward to having the Chili Conecarne. Had a craving since our trip to Carsland in March 2013. I was super bummed when Marketplace Snacks didn’t have them. I had NO idea they were at Fantasmic! Totally missed them! Guess I’ll have to go back!
Emilia says
Fantasmic is the best show Ever! It has truly stood the test of time and still makes me cry tears of joy when I watch it! I will definitely be tring the Mac and Cheese on my next visit!
Diane says
OMG! How the heck am I going to fit dinner at Sci-Fi including the “out of this world turtle cheesecake” AND this unbelieveably yummy mac & cheese bread cone in my stomach before Fantasmic????? Thanks for the great post and fabulous pics!! Absolutely LOVED IT!!!
Brian says
While it looks good….it looks more like cardiac arrest…yikes
Christine says
My friends who work there say that this cheesy goodness has been removed from the menu D:
Roberta says
Looks amazing! Someone bring me one right now please!
Misty says
These look sooooo delicious!
SCRN says
I’m sure those cones are absolutely delicious but the nurse in me can think nothing other than “diabetes!”. But maybe just as a one time treat ; )
Amanda says
I just went two days ago 8/27 to purchase one of these and they are NO LONGER SELLING them. The attendant said that they stopped selling them about a week ago. They are no longer on the menu there and currently there is no equivalent replacement. It was so sad.
Ashley says
THEY NO LONGER HAVE THESE!!!! I am writing this from the amphitheater now. I was disappointed. The workers do not know if it will come back or not.
Stephanie says
Very disappointed! I planned to get one for our dinner….THEY ARE NO LKNGER SERVING THESE!!!!
Sara says
Probably because they’re a heart attack in a cone.ni can’t even imagine eating any if those artery cloggers.
Kelly says
Went to the park on 8/29/14 and spoke with Refreshments. They removed the cones for good because they were not selling. They will not be returning.
Joe says
These are NO LONGER AVAILABLE at Fantasmic!
Denise says
Ok, I saw this blog last week and was thrilled since we would be at HS on Sunday… I was upset to find out they just last week when this blog was posted stopped selling it! It was not a popular buy! I waited all week for it! 🙁 Super Sad!
Samantha perez says
They stopped selling these a while ago!!! Noooo! All of our hopes up for nothing.

While searching the internet in preparation for his first trip in 15 years to WDW this October my brother found this article. I would like to give you his reaction to the mac and cheese cone, as he posted it to Facebook:
Todd – Neither you or your BDFFL (Best Disney Friend for Life) will get me to even consider trying this in three weeks.
Me- Donna! We have a new mission…
Todd- My immense snobbery coupled with dogged willpower and dietary fortitude will destroy your attempts to indoctrinate me into the world of pedestrian cuisine.
Donna (BDFFL) – Wait, there’s food in Walt Disney World?
Jordan says
Are you serious??? I’ve been drooling over this post for 2 weeks now. I was going to tonight to get a cone, one of each even, only to find out they don’t have them anymore from the comments 🙁
Thomas Jefferson says
is it possible to get this in trough form so i don’t have to use my hands when i eat this
Stephanie says
Sad to see this gone since someone in my family was eager to try it, but I’m glad I saw the update before trekking all the way to the Fantasmic theater for it.
I was perusing the web for a bread cone recipe to see if we could make this on our own when I came across this People.com article: http://greatideas.people.com/2014/09/04/disney-mac-cheese-bread-cone/
I’m sure if you’ve seen the article (sorry for the repeat if you have), but I had a little AHHHH!!/ Buddy the Elf “I know [them]…” moment when I read it. Thanks for helping me stay in the know when it comes to Disney dining!
AJ says
Stephanie — Ha ha!! I love your Buddy the Elf reference!
Donna says
We asked a cast member about the bread cones. We were told that they only had them for a week and they were discontinued due to poor sales. She said that a lot of people were asking about them and suggested contacted Guest Relations.
Kelly says
Thank YOU! Love your writing style and your help is invaluable. In my friend group I am considered the seasoned Diz planner and go to and I am picking up awesome things I didn’t know here!
Kate says
So I’ve just seen the new tip on this that they were removed from thr menus at disneyworld! Do we think these will ever come back?! They look amazing!!!
AJ says
Kate — You can still get them in Disneyland (different versions) at Cozy Cone Motel in Disney California Adventure, but they are currently not available in Disney World.
