A few weeks ago, as I walked through Downtown Disney, a little something caught my eye: This sign.
Even though these horrible plastic renditions look like, well, something your dog might leave you as a present, I knew that I had to get a churro ice cream sandwich ASAP. I immediately posted this photo on Instagram and people went bananas. Literally one of the most liked and commented on photos ever. So, I quickly put “Eat a Churro Ice Cream Sandwich” on the top of my to do list and came back a week later to check out the real deal.
Located in the heart of Downtown Disney, Anaheim, the California Churro Company cart now has one of what I’m going to predict as the most popular snacks at the Disneyland Resort.
Although I LOVE the churros from inside the parks, the churros offered here are unique because of the flavors that are available. All flavors are added to their churros via the sugar sprinkle mix they are rolled in upon ordering (in other words, no filling on the inside). I’ve tried a few of them and trust me, they are heavenly! Pina Colada tastes a bit like a Dole Whip. Pumpkin Spice is amazing, and so is the Salted Caramel. Flavored churros are $4.00.
But let’s get to the REAL reason why were here. The CHURRO ICE CREAM SANDWICH.
The Churro Ice Cream Sandwich is made fresh to order. It takes about 3-4 minutes and it’s worth every second. The top and bottom pieces are regular cinnamon/sugar sprinkled churros curled up to form the sandwich ends.
The vanilla ice cream is pre-portioned into small plastic containers each night for the next day. When an order is placed, they prepare the top and bottom pieces, then grab a container of ice cream from the on-site freezer and assemble the sandwich.
Once the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich is complete, it is served up with a fork and knife in a to go box.
As soon as I snapped a few photos, we dug in. You must eat the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich quickly. And I recommend sharing. The portion is large, and because it is made fresh to order, the churros are warm. Combine warm churros with frozen ice cream and your eating window becomes rather short. Therefore, share.
We were able to devour it in no time at all and didn’t end up with a soupy mess. If you’re alone, my guess is that you’ll have soup. But it will be the most delicious soup you’ve ever eaten. If you have the chance, I highly recommend forking over the $6 to check out the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich. It’s pretty amazing.
And if that wasn’t enough, I’m sure you noticed the Oreo Churro in that visual menu above… If not, here’s a close up.
So as an added bonus, I took one for the team and tried that, too. Oreo Churros are also made fresh to order. They are shorter in size than the regular churros sold here, but they are also a little fatter. The churro itself is chocolate; it’s rolled in sugar and served with a side of Oreo Creme for dipping.
Overall I thought it was pretty tasty, but I think I prefer a regular churro to this one. I will say that the dipping creme was very close in taste to the center of a real Oreo, so that’s good! The texture of the creme is much smoother though, making it easy to dip.
If you’re not into Oreos but love yourself some dipping, check out these other options. All Dipped Churros are $5.00 and come with the dip of your choice.
So basically, there’s something for everyone at the California Churro Cart in Downtown Disney, Anaheim. The line can be long, but it’s worth the wait!
Have you been to the California Churro Cart? Did you try a Churro Ice Cream Sandwich yet? What are you waiting for!?!

Hi, Heather! I’ve been finding several of your posts through Sherry’s posts on DISboards. I’ve loved reading them and viewing the pictures!!! I’m doing a solo trip today & wanted to allow myself one mid morning treat today. Thought for sure it would be the Mickey pumpkin beignets then I read your post about the pumpkin creme brûlée at Jolly Holiday.
I really want to try the churro ice cream sandwich but that will have to wait for another day!!! 🙂
Mike says
great review, hope to try them sometime. Thanks for all the hard work ;-).
Michele says
Oh my gosh. I want everything on their display!! Salted caramel sounds amazing, as does the churro with peanut butter dipping sauce! I am definitely going to this cart next time!
Anderson says
I hated the oreo churro. Much less churro bang for your buck and to me, it tasted nothing like an oreo.
Heather says
@Ashley – It’s time to plan a trip to Anaheim! ; )
@Amy – Thanks! Solo trips are so much fun. On a chilly day the pumpkin creme brulee will be perfect!
@Mike – Thank YOU for reading!
@Michele – We wanted to try the peanut butter dipping sauce too, but they were out of it!
@Anderson – It wasn’t my favorite but I didn’t hate it. Probably would not order again though. My kids loved them.
Sarah says
That churro ice cream sandwich looks amazing. They need to bring this to WDW stat! That display though- seriously, what were they thinking? Lol!
Wendy S says
Thanks for the review, I thought it was more like an ice cream sandwich.
Didn’t realize that it is made to order !! Looks absolutely wonderful and can’t wait to try it.
Dianne J says
i can only say WOW… My son absolutely loves Disney churros but he would flip for the likes of this. We live in Miami and can only hope that WDW catches the churro craze here! Any way for you to find out if that option is in the works? Thanks for ‘sharing’ with us!!
Erin* says
Great write up as always Heather! I can’t wait to try the churro/ice cream combo! No more dipping churro bites into a soft serve cone. 😉
Erin says
Please tell me these will be available at Disney World too! My churro- loving husband would just about die to get his hand on one of these!
Heather says
@Sarah – I hope you guys get it out there too!
@Wendy S – I was also surprised that it was made to order! I totally thought she’d just pull something out of the freezer and hand it to me.
Essie says
Certainly something I’d like to try. Of course, I’d certainly like to get out to Disneyland, also. I’ve never been there so I really appreciate your reports, Heather.
Heather says
@Essie – Thanks! I hope you get to visit someday in the near future!
Heather Sievers says
@Dianne J – I don’t have any news about WDW getting them, sorry!
@Erin* – Dipping churros in soft serve??? Sounds like you’re a pro!
@Erin – I wish I had more info, but as far as I know it’s just here in Anaheim.
Angelina says
Woah…my fiancé would kill for one of those sandwiches since he is already in love with DL churros…and though I don’t think that I would enjoy the oreo churro, I could find many many many uses for that oreo cream they offer you to dip it in!!!
Heather Sievers says
@Angelina – Hopefully he’ll get to eat one in the near future! If he already loves Disneyland churros, he’ll be a happy man, I’m sure!
Jenn @ Fairest Run of All says
Do you think they’d sell me just some Oreo creme dip?
AJ says
Jenn — Right???
Heather Sievers says
@Jenn – Probably! But it will cost you $5.00! ; )
@AJ – We need to find you like a vat of it!
