Fun news today from Min and Bill’s Dockside Diner!
You know how Columbia Harbour House used to have Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl? And you know how they don’t anymore and many, many, many of us still lament this on a regular basis?
Well, during a recent trip through the odyssey that is a Star Wars Weekend at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, one of our staffers spied a new menu at Min and Bills Dockside Diner that just might interest you…Clam Chowder Served in a BREAD BOWL.
Shazam.
Bread bowls have been sorely missed in Disney World, although they remain a staple at several Disneyland spots, like Pacific Wharf Cafe and Royal Street Veranda.
So, it took us about 5 seconds to realize that we needed to get this and share it with you right now! And so…here it is.
It’s not a huge bread bowl, and it’s not Boudin Bakery (AFAIK); but it is hearty and the bread is clearly an artisan-type, fresh-baked boule that’s more interesting than your run-of-the-mill loaf. Pieces of onion make the boule visually interesting and infuse the bread with some complex flavor. Pretty, huh?
Under the little bread lid, you’ll find the boule hollowed out enough for about a cup of soup.
When I removed the lid, I was happy to see the fresh Bacon and Chive garnish, which gave the soup additional color, texture, and flavor. I personally think Clam Chowder benefits hugely from the addition of bacon.
My first impression of the soup — it was crazy hot! And that’s good, because it should be. But it was also thick and flavorful, and the potatoes were cooked just through without being mushy.
After I finished the soup, I scooped out quite a bit of the bread to get the last few bites. Had I thought to pick up a little butter, I might have been tempted to enjoy even more. 🙂
While I still can’t fully wrap my mind around enjoying a hot bowl of soup on a hot Florida day, especially when Min and Bill’s doesn’t have any air conditioned seating, I have to say that this is a nice departure from other counter service options currently available in the Studios. And…bread bowl.
Now we’d love to hear from you! Are you excited to see Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl back in Walt Disney World? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

I was pleasantly surprised to see a reincarnation of one of my old Columbia Harbor House favorites at Min & Bills last week– just haven’t had the guts to try it with the heat we’ve been in. But boy, does it look good! Thanks for the review.

I’ll plan way ahead. I love clam chowder and artisan bread. On the day I’m going to DHS, I’ll get some butter from the Grab n Go at the resort, and enjoy a nice serving of buttered bread. With an ice cold soda, I could handle the hot soup! Thanks for the good news.

Tried this two weeks ago at SWW! Grabbed it before settling in for the fireworks and at night it wasn’t *too* hot and was so delicious!

Loved this at CHH and crossing my fingers it will still be available in November when we visit. My husband and I agree that you can definitely enjoy clam chowder in a bread bowl, even in the heat, if you are properly attired (pith helmet) and sipping an appropriate cool beverage (beer here!).

We saw that last week and it just wasn’t appeal in the 95+ temperatures, sitting outside at a picnic table. Maybe moving somewhere with indoor air conditioning or a seasonal item for the cooler months…………but on a hot summer day, the churro milk shake and a hot dog won out!
