Disney is currently testing a new transportation method — complimentary direct taxi service — for guests dining at select signature restaurants while staying at Walt Disney World monorail resorts!
Until June 30, 2015, some guests at the monorail resorts (Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary) will be selected to participate in this Disney dining test. Those invited to participate will receive complimentary round-trip vouchers delivered to their room.
Participants will have the option of enjoying direct taxi transportation to three signature restaurants: Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge, Jiko at Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Flying Fish Cafe at BoardWalk Resort.
Knowing how difficult it is to travel between some resorts, we think this service will be quite popular.

Personally I like it!
This would be a lot better than trying to find a time effective route.
The question is will it take you from resort to restaurant or just to a transportation point near by?
Kate says
I love this idea; however, they are picking resorts that already have relative ease of travel. Any of the monorail hotels travel easily to one another and also to the other resorts since all one has to do is take the monorail to the bus depot at MK. A much bigger challenge is finding transportation when staying at any of the other resorts! If this does become an option for guests, I will definitely be using it

I think this is awesome. Really interested in it. I have designated the Yachtsman as a must-stop each time I go. I would love to see them added.

A good idea. I wish they made it work the other way with AK lodge, and Wilderness lodge with Taxi to GF, Poly, Contemporary.
When you’re dressed up for a California Grill and Staying at Wilderness lodge…it’s a humid boat ride, or bus ride. Both mean you’re waiting about 20 mins for the boat or bus.
Same for being at the Poly and going to AK lodge.
With the prices you pay for a Poly room..etc. They should have system of Uber type drivers rotating around for scheduled pick ups…just for dinner guests.
I know sometimes I’m not all that interested with a reservation from Poly to AK…because realistically it’s a 30-45 bus transfer thing.

So the people that can MOST afford a taxi won’t have to pay!?!? People at values and mods eat at those restarurants, too! Why should they not be afforded the same perk?

This looks like a terrific incentive, but I am sure that downsides will emerge for Disney. If it continues after the test, will they find fewer guests bring cars, and the demand exceeds capacity? Will some scam fake reservations, figuring a $10 no show fee is less than a taxi from CR to AKL for Boma?

2 thumbs up for this idea. Here’s hoping it’s a success and they roll it out resort-wide.

This is wonderful news. My husband and usually stay at the Wilderness Lodge. We always take a taxi when we go to the Yachtsman Steakhouse…it is just too long and too much of a hassle to take bus transportation.
I hope this sticks! :-).

I like this idea, but they’re testing it on the wrong people. Those in the monorail resorts can already afford several hundred dollar night stays, so can afford a taxi if they need one. As well if they do, as they are already really close to most of tge signature restaurants where there is already lots of options for direct routes thru monorails, boats, etc. Those that stay in the cheapest resorts to be able to use the Disney transportation and are further away from the parks and other resorts are the ones needing better transportation. For instance, in my upcoming visit, I’m at one if the all-star resorts and have dinner reservations for boma at animal kingdom Lodge, its after animal kingdom is closed so I’ll have to take a bus to downtown Disney and then another bus to animal kingdom lodge, though downtown Disney is in the opposite direction as the all-star resorts are considered animal kingdom resorts. So if they roll this program out to everyone, it would be fantastic! But it still would make more sense to test a new program by those that are the most inconvenienced in their transportation already.

I think the main reason why people choose to stay at Deluxe resorts is for the service and convenience, so it makes sense that this wouldn’t be offered at a value or moderate resort. You’re paying a lot of money to stay at these resorts and you should get more in return.
Disney provides free transportation to all level resorts. You shouldn’t expect to stay at a value resort and receive complimentary car service on top of the other transportation provided. It’s called a value resort for a reason.
Michelle says
If it goes well hopefully they will roll this out to guests at all the other resorts as well I always stay at value resorts but do deluxe dining plan and eat at signature restaurants for dinner just about every day.

Well it’s about time!!! I’ve been saying that this should be an option for quite some time now. It makes sense to have transportation from resort to resort!!!
Marc says
It would be nice if Disney rolled out this concept in a larger fashion. We tend to visit V&A almost annually, and it always involves a taxi to/from our DVC resort to the Grand Floridian. (Aside from taking so much longer, how weird would it be to see someone in a suit ride the bus to MK and then walk up to the monorail?)
Alice Oinder says
This is an excellent idea and I think it should be provided to all guests.
Leann says
What about Boma- it’s such a hassle to get there. I hope they’re going to expand this service to restaurants that are less pricey.

Love this idea our family would definitely use!

I think it’s fair that those who spent a ton of money on their resort and choose to pay for signature dining should get extra perks. They are more than paying for them, that’s for sure! Those of us that choose cheaper accommodations or dining options receive less perks, I think that’s fair. I would be more likely to consider the expensive options tho, if I knew there were added values like this convenience. Sounds great!

They 100% need to start doing this! I was there for work two nights ago. Visiting for a few days from NYC. I made myself a Reservation at Todd English Bluezoo. Knowing how early I needed to leave, and exactly all the transportation I would’ve needed to take (as my family and I come down 4 or 5 times a year, and Dine at The Signature Restaurants frequently), I decided to Uber to my destination. It was only 8 dollars round trip, and OMG THE HASSEL IS SAVED ME was priceless! :). I think Disney is on the money with this idea! Way to go!
