We’re back today with another fun stop in to the Disney Food Truck scene at Disney World’s (soon-to-be) Disney Springs!
Even with all the crazy happening in this corner of the World (and maybe because of it), the Food Trucks are going gangbusters.
You’ll usually find them tucked neatly into their homebase at Exposition Park beside Starbucks, although occasionally they’re dispatched to other spots. Sometimes, you’ll even find them at resorts.
But I found them right where I expected to the day we visited to check out some new eats.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Sampler from Superstar Catering Food Truck
We recently tried the Tandoori Shrimp from the Namaste Cafe Truck. But today, I decided to check out Superstar Catering for lunch.
As with the other trucks, Superstar has recently changed up its menu a bit. And I love the electronic menu board for showing you all of your options before you commit! Pretty fancy for a food truck, I think. The Pork Shank is enticing — especially with a side of Gruyere Mac and Cheese.
And the Sausage and Caramelized Onion Flatbread seems like a step up from your garden variety pizza.
But I was looking for a true taste of the Studios — and I found it in the Taste of Hollywood Studios Sampler.
This trio brings together three of DHS’s most beloved dishes. You get smaller portions of the BLT Soup from Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant (sadly, this one’s not on the menu right now), and the Cobb Salad and Grapefruit Cake, both from the Hollywood Brown Derby.
They’re all served on a cardboard “plate.” And since it was forever degrees outside in the full sun, I took my goodies next door to the shade of the Starbucks patio. 🙂 This is seriously one of my favorite new spots at DTD. And it was desserted, so it was no problem snagging a comfy seat away from the sun.
I decided to start with the BLT Soup. This was a fan favorite for years until it disappeared from the menu a while back. So if you love it, I definitely suggest you check out this sampler for a taste of the old days!
The soup itself was a creamy Tomato Soup with a generous garnish of Chopped Bacon. It was quite good, but for me, some of its charm was lost due to the extremely hot day.
But next up was the perfect hot weather food — the Cobb Salad from Hollywood Brown Derby! (If you can’t make it to the Parks to enjoy this one, make it at home with our recipe.)
The version delivered to me was less like the “stack” in the pic, and more like a little salad mountain, with each of the distinctive ingredients — Greens, Turkey, Hard-Boiled Egg, Bleu Cheese, Avocado, Bacon, Tomatoes, and Dressing — chopped finely and layered. Since this is a favorite of mine, I appreciated the ability to get it without having to find a parking spot at DHS. 😉 But in retrospect, I wish that I’d asked for a little extra dressing. I didn’t really taste much. It’s not too much of a downer with this salad, however. There’s so much going on flavor-wise here that you can get by without much dressing, IMO.
But I loved that the sampler also had a built in dessert — and it’s one of my favorites, too! The tray came with a petite serving of the Brown Derby’s Grapefruit Cake. (Make it at home with this handy recipe.)
I love this cake. It’s got such a great balance of flavors — sweet and slightly bitter from the Grapefruit, with a rich, tangy Cream Cheese Frosting to top it off. My only complaint is that I’d like a bigger piece, please.
But then, I guess it wouldn’t be a sampler then, would it?
All in all, I really enjoyed the Taste of Hollywood Studios Sampler, because I really like all of these dishes anyway. But there’s the added excitement that I can get some of my favorite Disney dishes without setting foot into their Park of origin! And that, I think, is what sets a Disney Food Truck apart.
Will you be trying the Taste of Hollywood Studios Sampler or any of the other Disney Food Truck eats? Leave a comment and tell us what you think!

What happened to the avocado and the blue cheese like in the photo?
A little pet peeve of mine when the item does not look like the photo sorry.
Brooke says
Joni — They were both there — I promise! I just omitted the avocado from the post. I’ll add it right now. Thank you! 😀

Hey, this even sounds kinda nutritionally sound! Awesome!

Not a real Food Truck fan. Think they junk up the ambiance. However this “Sampler” looks fantastic. My kind of meal.. Thanks for your great posts. Helps the in between trips blues.

I normally skip meat but having had the Cobb salad at Lunch with an Imagineer, I’m with him when he said “I could eat this every day.”
Wonderful salad both filling and refreshing. We experienced the food trucks when one came to All Star Music during the food court refurbishment and we’re looking forward to trying them at their new home. I personally think they are a good fit for the new Disney Springs and provide a flexible way for Disney to feed crowds or send food service to another location as they did for Music.

Sandra — That salad is one of my favorites! I make sure to get to the Hollywood Brown Derby at least once a year for it. I was excited to see it featured at Superstar Catering. And that Grapefruit Cake. So yum. 😀

I think it looks delicious. I would certainly grab it for a quick and easy meal.

Except that for that one example, they aren’t really moving these around much. Or allowing third-party roach coaches in. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if these trucks NEVER move again, to the point that if they wish to move them, they will have to have them towed.
This was just a cheap way for Disney to offer food from the parks at DTD. Nothing more.

Looking forward to trying that Grapefruit cake! We’ve tried the flatbread and it’s really, really good.

Lee & Robin, The food trucks are often moved to ESPN Wide World of Sports during large events, and I have even spotted one at the entrance of animal kingdom before! Third party food trucks are available to cast members occasionally, and the yumyum cupcake truck has been at ESPN WWoS many times as well.
