Amidst all the construction and general day-to-day bustle in Downtown Disney (not to mention some big name restaurants on the way as the Disney Springs transformation moves forward), it’s easy to forget there are a lot of little stands and kiosks dotting the area, including stops like Wetzel’s Pretzels and the Downtown Snow Company featuring shaved ice.

There are a few, though, that don’t have a brand name of any sort. They’re simply marked as “Italian Ice” stands, and you’ll find one on the West Side (next to the Characters in Flight balloon experience) and one in the Marketplace, just by the main stage where guest musicians (often school bands and choirs) perform.

The kiosks are small, but the one on the West Side is especially noticeable thanks to all the bright colors.

The main sign tells you ice cold treats are the headliner, but it just so happens you’ll find a variety of Churros here as well: typically Bavarian Cream, Dulce de Leche (caramel), and King Cinnamon and Sugar. (Alas, those Churro Ice Cream Sandwiches in Disneyland never made their way to the east coast).

However, ’tis still very much the season for cold refreshment, so Italian Ice, it was! A couple things to note: you can grab soft serve ice cream here, too (your basic vanilla or chocolate), and you can even layer your choice of Italian Ice with soft serve to make a Gelati. Also, available flavors may vary on any given day.

To try a few flavors all at once, I ordered the Tye-Dye combo: lemon, lime, and blue raspberry. (The Rainbow, I believe, includes cherry and the flavors are concentrated closer together, where the Tye-Dye gives you a bit more ease in tasting different flavors individually). Plus, it just looks pretty!

Altogether, though, there wasn’t a huge differentiation between the flavors after all – basically lemon-y citrus with the blue raspberry providing a slight, but still fruity, difference. What really stood out was just how refreshing the whole thing was overall: sweet and brain-freeze-inducing cold.

My go-to for a cold treat during a scorcher in Downtown Disney is typically a good ol’ Raspberry Lemonade Slush (did you know you can grab one outside the parks at Downtown Disney’s Marketplace Snacks)? That is, if I’m not too tempted by the newer offerings at Dockside Margaritas these days. But this little scoop really hit the spot for a small bit of refreshment as I went on my way around Downtown Disney, and I’ll definitely keep it in mind as an option to add to my list in the future.
