is at it again! Becoming known for their oft-changing macaroni and cheese-based menu items, this spot has a new version to add: Barbecue Chicken Macaroni and Cheese!
Atmosphere
Tucked into Fantasyland, Friar’s Nook is a walk-up location with all-outdoor seating.
The covered seating offers views of Fantasyland, including Prince Charming’s Regal Carrousel. There’s no A/C even though the seating is covered, so plan ahead for warmer or cooler days. This is also a popular spot for folks grabbing sundaes at Storybook Treats, so it can get crowded quickly.
Eats
This latest addition to the mac and cheese-anchored menu has replaced the Bacon Cheeseburger Macaroni and Cheese, which I know will be upsetting to some! They still offer the guest-favorite Pot Roast Macaroni and Cheese as well as popular items like Hot Dogs and Vegetables with Hummus.
Bevvies are the same as always.
So let’s dig into that Barbecue Chicken Macaroni and Cheese! Like the other mac and cheese counter-service options in WDW, you are getting a TON of food.
The presentation is spot on. On top of the chicken was a nice amount of coleslaw and bread crumbs. The coleslaw was especially a nice surprise and offered a nice cool, crunchy texture comparison to the chicken and mac.
The chicken doused in barbecue sauce, and was placed on top of the macaroni. I highly recommend mixing the chicken right into the macaroni!
The mac itself is extra cheesy, especially compared to other similar options.
Between the cheese and the barbecue sauce, this one is very heavy. Unless you’re super hungry and have plans for a nap afterward, consider bringing a fellow mac and cheese lover to help you finish this one.
Overall
We liked the combo of flavors and textures in this one, and we can definitely recommend it. These gourmet macaroni and cheeses have become a “thing” in WDW (remember the debacle that was the buffalo mac?), and as the price continues to creep up they become less of a value. That said, they are huge and very shareable.

We visit Disneyworld every year from England, but we have never had Mac n Cheese. I’m afraid it’s the most unappetizing item sold in Disney, for us anyway.

We tried the pot roast one this year and while the roast was lovely the mac n’ cheese part was very bland and not a bit cheesy. Tasted like they had used plastic cheese rather than a nice strong cheddar. However we are from Scotland and prefer strong cheese to the mild stuff you usually get served in Disney world

I am still mourning the loss of the blue cheese & balsamic version, which was amazing. And I don’t even eat mac and cheese normally.

That looks delicious and if it’s as good as the pot roast mac & cheese, my WDW boyfriend and I might have to get one of each next time. It’s just too bad Disney hasn’t realized how popular Friar’s Nook is and added some more seating. Some WDW guests can be very rude and sit with their maps and water bottles (not even purchased at Friars Nook) hogging the tables while guests with trays of food stand there looking for a place to sit. While we were lucky enough to get standing room over near a counter, we saw many people sitting on the black top (ground) with their food.

Recently had the bbq chicken mac N cheese. Unbelievable! Can’t stop thinking about it and how I can create it for dinner myself. Amazing flavor combination, texture combination. Any recipe suggestions?
