Hot on the heels of the menu changes at Pecos Bill’s comes a shift at another Magic Kingdom Counter Service option: Tortuga Tavern will introduce an all-new Barbecue menu tomorrow!
Tortuga Tavern — a seasonally open restaurant in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland, located across from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and themed as a hangout for pirates to grab some grub and grog, previously featured Mexican fare such as Burritos and Rice Bowls.
However, those options — along with a few new dishes such as Fajitas — moved over to Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe earlier this month, replacing the burger-and-barbeque eats the popular counter service spot was known for.
So, what’s a pirate haunt whose menu has been plundered to do but debut a new menu all its own? Beginning tomorrow, October 14th, Tortuga Tavern will reopen with a barbecue-focused menu.
Options will include a Pulled Pork Sandwich served on Texas Toast with Baked Beans and Coleslaw for sides.
Side items and bread remain the same with the Sliced Beef Brisket and Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwiches.
A Roasted Corn and Vegetable Salad with vinaigrette dressing provides a vegetarian option (though barbecue beef brisket or chicken may be added to the salad option as well).
Please note: Tortuga Tavern will retain its status as a seasonal restaurant, so availability will vary. But we do know the big barbecue debut will take place tomorrow, October 14th. Though hours can vary, typically Tortuga Tavern operates from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on the days it is open.
So… AAAAARRRRR ye ready for some barbecue, mateys?
What do you think of the new menu coming to Tortuga Tavern? Please let us know with a comment!

Is this the final demise of my beloved taco salad?

Between this place going barbecue and Pesco Bill’s going Mexican I’m really confused.
Dana says
I agree with Kathy – this is just confusing. Why is a Mexican place serving barbecue, and a burger/barbecue place serving Mexican? Just strange.

Perhaps, for business and sponsorship reasons that we are not yet aware of. Let’s see… big names (or already existing partners) in Tex-Mex or Mex-American food for whom which a full-time Tex-Mex restaurant in the middle of a theme park would be more attractive to, than a seasonal restaurant… hummmmm.

Those look amazing! Thanks

That abomination is NOT BBQ by any stretch of the imagination…unless maybe you live outside of the South and just don’t know any better
Mark says
Given that I’ve only ever seen this place open once won’t make much difference to us, but I agree that those sandwiches don’t look like BBQ. To a lot of us this is just a place to trade Sorcerer cards.
Adrienne says
It may not be “real” barbecue but as long as it’s tasty I’ll be happy! Texas toast is bae and that salad actually looks pretty solid!

I’ll take this over the same old boring burgers and chicken fingers any day.
Everyone needs to keep in mind that QS meals are designed to be appealing to “most” guests and cooked quickly on Disney’s end. Most foodies know that this isn’t true BBQ, Mexican, Italian etc. You’re going to need to find a sit-down place for stuff like that. Until then, large-scale oven-baked brisket and chicken will have to do.
And in all honesty, Pecos Bills sounds like a Tex-Mex place and Tortuga Tavern’s ambiance didn’t fill the bill for tacos and burritos.

We have authentic, wonderful BBQ restaurants up here in the North (Philly), too. They have tender, slow cooked, savory BBQ recipes which have people coming for miles to enjoy to enjoy a full menu of authentic BBQ dishes year round. Do the Tavern’s entrees look like these? No, but for a QS spot in the number one rated busy theme park in the world, I’m sure the Tavern’s food is just fine.

Kathy,
For the theme barbecue fits Tortuga as it is based upon Pirates of the Carribean and barbecue food is of Carribean origin.
Tex-Mex fits a Western theme so is okay for Peco’s.
More choice in food options is great. One thing I liked at Disneyland was that every quick service place was different.

Can you post prices??
Thx.

I’ve eaten “real” barbecue in Texas, the Carolinas and Virginia back when I did meat. I think those who are looking for strictly competition-style stuff are bound to be unhappy, but as others have said, this is a quick service place designed to appeal to many people for an easy lunch or dinner. I’m definitely not expecting the same brisket I got in Texas.
I so wonder though if this particular change is related to the new restaurant opening in Adventureland. Perhaps they are testing recipes or just food concepts to see if they are worth putting on the menu.

Really people???? Between the Pecos Bill changes and now this.
No one is saying that this is gonna be top shelf, smoker in the backyard BBQ, Are there really that many “snobs” out there that Disney is FINALLY stepping outside of the box and offering a wider variety of food?
I applaud Disney for getting rid of the 20 places you can find burgers and chicken fingers and replacing them with different options.
I cannot wait to try the new menus at BOTH places.

Would love it to be more piratey. Pirates don’t eat TEXAS toast. BBQ is fine and all, I guess, but it’s lazy- maybe they’re themed out pouring all their energy into the Jungle Cruise Restaurant and that indiana jones bar in downtown disney.

We loved Pecos Bill because of the chili. Late at night we could enjoy it with toppings like shredded cheese, sauteed mushrooms, diced tomatoes and onions. We could sit there and eat while enjoying the parade. Where will we get the chili now?

I want to try barbecue sandwich at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World on New Year’s Eve 2024.
