has done it again!
We are back at Hollywood Studios’ very own Dockside Diner for this season’s specialty milkshake. You may recall a few of the milkshake gems that have made the rounds at this unassuming spot, like the scrumptious Caramel Apple, the creative Cinnamon Sweet Churro, and the festive Red Velvet Peppermint Shake in honor of the holidays.
Nowadays we can’t walk into Hollywood Studios without stopping by Min and Bill’s to check out the latest concoction, because they’ve made the hunt pretty fun by changing the seasonal shake offering on a fairly frequent basis.
Things had changed up yet again on our most recent trip with the Black Forest Milkshake.
So, who’s ready to do some seasonal shake sipping with me?
Atmosphere
Min and Bill’s Diner is located inside the “S.S. Down the Hatch” on Echo Lake in Hollywood Studios.
All seating is outdoors, but they do have a nice amount of tables and umbrellas set up right in front.
I’ve always enjoyed the nautical atmosphere of this spot, and I usually try to grab a seat along the side of ship to take in some of the details. Classic film fans should especially make a note to spend some time looking at the various addresses on the shipping containers.
See if you can spot a shipment to Rick’s Cafe Americain in Morocco, CASABLANCA among some of the containers in the area on your next trip! (“Of all the shake stands in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine…”)
Let’s check out the latest…
Eats
Min and Bill’s is strictly a quick-service spot with a rather unexpected assortment American fare including Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl , a Chili and Cheese Foot-long Hot Dog, and the you-gotta-try-it Barbecued Pulled Pork Macaroni & Cheese.
On the main menu, you’ll simply see “Seasonal Shake” listed under the regular Chocolate Shake option. You have to approach the ordering counter to find out what the current Seasonal Shake is, though, since it’s typically listed on a free-standing sign you can only read once you move towards the registers.
Looks interesting enough on the sign, right? To be honest, though, when I saw this season’s flavor I was a little let down. I thought it was less exciting than some of the past ones I’ve seen.
And it’s true that the ingredients are on the simple side: a cherry milkshake with a nice amount of chocolate syrup on the bottom and sides of the cup (not quite as impressive as all the caramel sauce in the Caramel Apple Shake; but not a bad effort, by any means).
It’s all topped off with whipped cream and a cherry.
Thankfully, my initial assessment was wrong. This thing tastes EXACTLY like a decadent, creamy version of a chocolate-covered cherry!
I don’t know who comes up with these, but once again, we gotta give ’em their well-earned kudos!
Overall
If you’re into the simple but classic combination of cherry and chocolate, then you should definitely check out the latest at Min and Bill’s. If this flavor doesn’t tempt you, though, be sure to stop by anyway to see what the Seasonal Shake is on your next trip. You may want to do what we always do: grab a shake, grab a seat and enjoy the view!
