You may have passed by boxes upon boxes of Minnie’s Bake Shop Chocolate Chunk Cookies in several merchandise spots around Disney World and Disneyland without even noticing.
Found throughout popular merchandise and snack combo stops such as Magic Kingdom’s Big Top Souvenirs (home to Big Top Treats) and Epcot’s Mouse Gears in Disney World, to the Fantasia Shop in the Disneyland Hotel (where I purchased mine), these grab and go snacks aren’t exactly what you would call high profile on the Disney snacking scene.
True, pre-packaged treats rarely are, but since I’ve never actually reviewed them here on the DFB, I thought it was high time to give them a go.
While you can find several treats in the similar spots with the Minnie’s Bake Shop label, today we’re trying the Family Size Box of full-sized Chocolate Chunk Cookies. The cookies in the box were further sealed with clear plastic wrapping.
Unfortunately, that didn’t help what came to pass with the cookies I purchased. I think I must have picked up a box that had been sitting there for quite some time (like…months) because they were hard and…frankly, stale.
They tasted old (you know what I mean) and were super crisp — and I’m not talking the good kind of crunchy-crisp here; I mean the can’t-stay-together-and-scatters-everywhere crumbly kind.
I’m guessing this isn’t always the case, but my batch was just… yuck. There isn’t anything unique to report about the flavor (your basic chocolate chip cookie, essentially), but even if there was, it would likely have been overshadowed by the poor condition of the cookies in my package. One theory I have is that maybe the Disneyland Hotel gift shop doesn’t see a lot of cookie-lover traffic? Regardless, I’m sorry to report that things just weren’t okay here.
I feel bad even publishing this review since I clearly (I hope) just had a super bad batch of stale cookies and that they aren’t all like this. But, I guess it’s good for you to note that super-staleness is a possibility with these pre-packaged goodies. Consider this your PSA for today.
Fortunately, though, this isn’t the only cookie our girl Minnie has up for grabs. I have had consistently great experiences with the individually packaged large Minnie’s Bake Shop Cookies (also known as Selma’s Cookies). Flavor choices include Peanut Butter, White Chocolate Raspberry, White Chocolate Chip, and Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter. You can also find them unwrapped in many Disney confectionery cases throughout the parks and resorts like the Main Street Confectionery, Goofy’s Candy Co., and Sweet Spells, just to name a few). My recommendation for your cookie fix? Stick with those, gang. I think you’ll be glad you did!
Have you tried any of the Minnie’s Bake Shop snacks? Please let us know with a comment!

I’m going to be completely honest here… I love all of Disney’s baked goods EXCEPT for their chocolate chip cookies. They have the worst flour-taste and are not buttery or moist (despite being soft). The tube cookies you buy at the grocery store taste better. Does anyone agree?
Nancy says
I have to agree. Was not at all impressed with the chocolate chip cookie

Well AJ, we tried them a while back and basically had the same experience.
I’m surprised that people don’t complain about them.

That’s the whole point of a review. Truth must be told. Don’t feel bad. It’s OK to challenge Disney on their cheapness from time to time.

There are some food products that I hold in high regard and where the disparity between homemade and packaged/factory made is so stark, I don’t even waste my time. Chocolate chip cookies is one of these – perhaps the premiere one of these. Just looking at them through the plastic you can tell they’re going to be awful and not worth the calories.

Retlaw Y — I’ve learned my lesson ;-D

Ryan S — You’re 100% correct! I don’t usually feel badly about publishing a negative review, but in this case, I’d hate to keep someone’s kids from getting chocolate chip cookies if 9 out of 10 boxes are actually pretty good. I’ll have to get another box and see if they’re any better!

I have not had the cookies labeled “Minnie’s” but we have tried the individually wrapped chocolate chunk cookies (bought at the coffee stand in near the Haunted Mansion) and the sugar cookies (given to us with the Haunted Tour), both delicious. In fact, the sugar cookie was the best cookie my son and I have ever had. That’s why we looked at the packaging and found it was made by Selma’s. This was 4 years ago, in 2013. However, this year, 2017, I visited and was unable to find any of Selma’s cookies, bought a chocolate chip and a sugar cookie out of the case on Main Street – horrible. I threw both in the garbage.
