There are just a few days left to enjoy the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which will have its last run on January 3, 2016.
The final year of this well-loved holiday lights display coincides with construction for entire new lands coming to Hollywood Studios. Perhaps you’ve heard of a little film franchise called Star Wars? Yep, its getting a land of its own, along with Toy Story Land on the way as well.
While that’s not exactly “new news” anymore, the fact that Toy Story Pizza Planet is closing for a lengthy refurbishment may come as a surprise to some guests visiting Hollywood Studios in the new year.
According to wdwmagic.com, Pizza Planet will begin a major refurbishment on January 19, 2016, which will last late into the year. And, indeed, no times are available for Pizza Planet starting January 19th on the Walt Disney World website.

Word on the street has it that when the location reopens (projected for November), it may not reopen as Pizza Planet, but as a new eatery entirely. These rumors certainly make sense, given the future of Toy Story Land. Reopening a new and improved Pizza Planet in the upcoming land could result in a more immersive experience.

To clarify, none of these rumors have been confirmed by Disney. Still, it’s always fun to daydream, isn’t it? If the location does reopen with a new theme or cuisine, what would your hopes for this spot be? A Muppet-themed restaurant would be awesome!
The new Pizza Planet should be an exact replica of the Pizza Planet from the movie.
Maybe the new home of Mama Melrose? and then a new PP would be great in Toy Storyland

I feel like the new Toy Story Land is going to go up closer to the back by pixar place and even stretching toward animation courtyard. If they do reimagine the restaraunt, I think it will tie into Star Wars Land!
Maybe a shawarma restaurant Avengers style. Or a Muppets Diner with the Swedish Chef cooking.
I’d be devastated if it disappeared! We eat there on or yearly trips and I’ve had so much fun in that arcade. It definitely could use a remodel though. Hopefully they just make it bigger and better.
I would be cool with this closing and a better one opening. I was very disappointed by the theming of this one.
Pizza Planet is one of my family’s favorite places to eat. The salad and pizza combination is awesome!

It makes sense. But I do hope they reopen in the new Toy Story Land. I know a lot of people don’t care for it, but for our family, it was a frequent stop.
They should do a Muppet themed restaurant with the Swedish Chef!!!
Me and my sister were saying to each other that a Pizza Planet that looks like the one in the Toy Story film would be very cool, with the robot guards at the entrance and the large round arcade area, the Pizza Planet car and retro-spaceship outside ^^

I hope that, as Disney has, they continue to offer great vegan options – regardless of the theming. 🙂
I hope it doesn’t totally go away…..was a simple place to quickly grab a bite and run.
Muppets just don’t seem to grab the attention of the young ones so I don’t know if that would be a consideration.
However with the positioning of this place and what’s around it, that may be the only option.
As long as they don’t get rid of the cappuccino cupcake! That is my favorite dessert at WDW.
Kinda hope they make Pizza Planet just how it is portrayed in the movie! I was honestly a little disappointed when I first walked in and didn’t see any of the night sky glow and rocket ship mini rides or robot guards at the enterance as they appeared in the movie. It would be great if they remodel it to look just like that!
My son would love a Pizza Planet with the Toy Story characters circulating similar to Cinderellas Castle Breakast, Chef Mickey’s, etc!
Stefanie, they have the cappuccino cupcakes at Fountain View Cafe / Starbucks in EPCOT too. 🙂
Given the proximity of the current Pizza Planet to Star Tours, I’d certainly think this will now be part of “Star Wars Land”. I’d love to see the Cantina come to life. And I would imagine Pizza Planet will move over to the Pixar / Toy Story area.

I have to get the cappuccino cupcakes SOMEWHERE!!!!! Fountain View will be fine. 🙂 I’d love to see a Muppet Restaurant in the present PP location, with the Swedish Chef as the head of the staff, and the entire Muppet gang in it!!!! OMGosh, would that be a fun restaurant. Could they make it QS for lunch and TS for dinner? Maybe? I’d also like to see Pizza Planet redone in TSL with GOOD pizza (and cappuccino cupcakes, of course), but keep it all QS. DHS is going to be unbelievable when all of this is done!
I like the concept of having Pizza Planet (especially with Toy Story Land coming!) so I hope they keep it in some capacity, even if that is building a totally new one over there. I’ll be curious to see what happens!
I think they shouldn’t do any of that stuff, I mean I get the Star Wars thing but PIZZA PLANET no way I mean that place is where my family go every time. And I mean a lot of times I’ve been there 11 times and I am serious 11 times how do you think I feel. AND I MEAN THEY SHOULD DO NOTHING TO IT, NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOVE the Avengers/Shawarma idea! It would theme very well too since it’s in the Streets of America area/New York area.
Swedish Chef!!!!! (And perhaps some animatronic rats doing the rat scat in an open kitchen?) A new Pizza Planet to match the original movie’s design would be fabulous – if inclusive of a consult with the Via Napoli pizza chefs!!
I don’t know now feasible it is with their costumes, Woody is so tall and Buzz is kind of awkward, but my son would completely lose his mind over some kind of Toy Story character dining. Maybe if they couldn’t move around the room the characters could be available in the restaurant after the meal like the Beast is during dinner at Be Our Guest.
Pizza Planet was always a tradition for me and my family and the highlight to going to Hollywood Studios. I sincerely hope it reopens somewhere in Hollywood Studios and make it appear identical to the one in Toy Story with more seating capacity and the robots at the door from the movie would be really cool.
I swear. If they don’t bring the pizza to the new one in toy story land. It is my favorite pizza in the world. Nothing beats it in my mind and I will be devastated if they don’t bring it back. I already lost Pinocchio house to horrible pizza. It better not happen again >:\
