Happy (almost!) Chinese New Year!
The “Year of the Monkey” begins on February 8th, and Nine Dragons Restaurant in Epcot’s China Pavilion will celebrate with special menu items for nearly the whole year. From February 8, 2016 through January 27 of next year, guests at Nine Dragons will find a new prix-fixe option available for lunch as well as additional items on the regular menu.
For lunch, the prix-fixe special will include three courses for $17.98. Begin your meal with spring rolls or pot stickers, then choose from three entrees for the main course: Happily Family (sliced chicken breast, beef and shrimp stir fry), Moo Goo Gai Pan featuring stir-fried chicken breast with mushrooms and snow peas, and General Tso’s Chicken Buns Lunch Box: three steamed buns (basically, these are Chinese tacos) and hot-and-sour soup. For dessert, try either strawberry-red bean or ginger-caramel ice cream.
Three steamed buns will also be featured on the regular menu for the year-long celebration: Braised Pork Belly with chili aioli, Sweet-and-Sour Batter-fried Fish with a pork floss topping, and General Tso’s Chicken buns (also batter-fried).
To heighten the celebration, the following discounts will all offer 20% through the month of February: Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club, and Golden Oak, along with the standard 20% discount for Tables in Wonderland.
In Disney Springs, Morimoto Asia will also honor the New Year! A four-course dinner served family style will be offered on February 8th, featuring Chef Morimoto’s signature Peking Duck. The price is $75 per person.
But that’s not the only celebration in store… if you’re looking for a truly beautiful place to enjoy dinner with your Valentine, Morimoto Asia will be serving a special four course, prix-fixe dinner for two from February 12-14. The star of the show will again be Chef Morimoto’s signature Peking Duck for two.
The additional courses will include Duck Caesar Salad, Hamachi and Duck consommé while the MM Parfait will be dessert: vanilla gelato, chocolate creampuff, sesame mochi, hazelnut crunchies and whipped cream. The dinner special is $85 per guest. Of course, Advance Dining Reservations are especially recommended for such a popular dining weekend.
And solely on February 14th, a “more exclusive and intimate” five-course Omakase dinner featuring Chef’s Choice will be offered at the second-level 14-seat only Sushi Bar for $150 per guest. For this unique experience, reservations can be made by calling 407-939-6686 (MOTO).

A bit disappointing to see General Tso on the menu at a place that is supposed to be a reflection of China because of course there such thing as General Tso’s chicken in China. It’s an American invention.

Opps, should read no such thing. Sorry.

Um…what is “pork floss” and why would I want it on my fish? Lol!

Now this is some of the creativity I wish Nine Dragons would institute more often.
Right now this place is a maybe step of from my corner Chinese restaurant at home, you know the 15 of them within a 10 mile radius.
I am drooling looking at these options!

Pork floss is kind of like if you took a pork jerky and shredded it into tiny little tufts of fiber. It’s used as a condiment a lot in Chinese/Taiwanese cooking-kind of similar to a Japanese furikake. An interesting and authentic choice!

Really disappointed to see that there are no vegetarian options. I guess it shouldn’t surprise me, the regular menu only has 1 veg option on it, (Vegetable and Tofu Stir-Fry). It’s weird to go to a Chinese restaurant with a severe lack of veggie options. So many Chinese are Buddhist, and vegetarian, so I am used to seeing a lot of veg options on Chinese restaurant menu’s. Even the quick service restaurant, The Lotus Blossom Cafe, isn’t veg friendly. There is one dish on the menu that appears to be vegetarian, (Hong Kong Style Vegetable Curry over Rice), but I was told by a castmember working there that there is animal stock in it. :p Nine Dragon’s is a beautiful restaurant with wonderful staff, I just wish it had a more diverse menu.

Any other Morimoto establishment, Omakase would be a must do event, but at Disney, the menu has so few items that are even slightly more exotic than the chinese takeout join in Grovers Corners, and the abilities of the kitchen to execute those dishes is so inconsistent, it seems like a ridiculous gamble and waste of money.
