This post is part of the DFB #OnTheList series, where we feature eats you’ve GOT to have while you’re at Disney! Let us know what’s on YOUR Disney Food Bucket List @DisneyFoodBlog #OnTheList!
What’s frozen, made of guava, passion fruit, and orange juices, and is #OnTheList?
It’s the Jungle Juice Slush at Animal Kingdom’s Mahindi (AKA Harambe Popcorn ;-D).
You may already know and love Jungle Juice if you’ve tried it at Animal Kingdom’s Tusker House Restaurant or Boma at nearby Animal Kingdom Lodge. OR you may be familiar with it as POG Juice (Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava — natch!) or Liliko’i Juice when it is served as part of breakfast at ‘Ohana’s Best Friends Breakfast or at Kona Cafe. Then again, you may refer to it as Moonshine (which, despite the name, is a non-alcoholic drink) if you start your day at Trail’s End.
But only at Mahindi — a simple Popcorn Cart in Animal Kingdom’s Africa (previously known as Harambe Popcorn) — where it’s served frozen in slush form. And that is what lands Mahindi’s version on our Disney Food Bucket List. PLUS, it’s the only place you can get this particular blend of tropical juices without an Advance Dining Reservation!
(Funny story: when they first started serving Jungle Juice at this kiosk, it wasn’t supposed to be slushy — but one of the Cast Member there always turned the drink tumbler on at a colder temperature and it ended up frozen! We first spotted it and wrote this post — along with a pretty awesome hack. Since then, the slush-factor has become standard!)
DFB MONEY SAVING TIP: Now, here’s something you should know before you partake in a Jungle Juice Slush of your own: you’ll spy it on Mahindi’s menu priced at $13.99 and served in the Souvenir Musical Tumbler. Don’t get me wrong — that tumbler is pretty rad. But you can also get the slush on its own for $3.99 (or as a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan).
As expected, it’s served with the signature Animal Kingdom paper straw, so as to not cause any harm to the park’s beautiful animals.
What makes the Jungle Juice Slush different from other popular Slush drinks in Disney World (such as the Raspberry Lemonade or Pina Colada Slush)? Well, the combined citrus and tropical juices carry a particularly potent punch when it comes to flavor. And the slush from the icy bits make this a perfectly tasty way to cool down even on the hottest days in Animal Kingdom.
So, no matter whether you think the Jungle Juice Slush is made of something called Moonshine, POG, or Liliko’i Juice, be sure to put it #OnTheList!

This is my absolute favorite juice! Do you happen to know if they sell a similar tasting juice anywhere in Disneyland?

You can also get this frozen jungle juice slush at animal Kingdom Lodge at the Mara restaurant as well.
(they even give you a free Mickey straw)
It’s by the pastry/coffee counter, but you can’t miss the big slush machine.

Just checked there, and it’s no longer served anywhere in Africa. Mahindi now sells a souvenir canteen of fountain drink instead. Sad. Someone said they might offer it at the bar across from Everest, but I haven’t confirmed that. Got a Dole Whip instead from across from tusker.
