has been churning out ooey, gooey caramel treats in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion since it opened nearly SEVEN years ago.
(I started this blog just over 8 years ago, by the way. Time sure flies when you’re eating your way around Walt Disney World!)
Anyway, it’s all in the name: it’s the Caramel Kitchen, brought to us by Werther’s Caramel. It’s for those of us — and there are those of us 😉 — who adore all things caramel maaaaybe even a bit more than the other candy darling: CHOCOLATE.
Now, that’s not to say that Karamell-Küche doesn’t have a few things in that golden bakery case for chocoholics. Not at all. You’ll find chocolate poured over a Caramel Apple, covering a caramel square, or topping Mickey’s ears on a Krispie Treat.
And now there’s one more that the chocolate lovers — and caramel lovers, of course! — can add to the list to try.
It’s the new Chocolate Caramel Swirl.
Everything you need to know is found in the first glance: it’s a thick cut swirl of chocolate and caramel, finished with chocolate sprinkles surrounding the outer layer. Well, there is one more thing you’d probably like to know: the Chocolate Caramel Swirl comes in at $4.49 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit.
We can easily imagine a huge, long roll of chocolate and caramel, with these beautiful slices portioned off one by one. (Though if the whole roll was up for grabs, we wouldn’t exactly complain.)
This is one small but seriously substantial treat, given the rich decadence of both the dark chocolate and the caramel. It sticks to your ribs (and, frankly, your teeth ;-D). And it’s worth it!
And those chocolate sprinkles do lend a slight textural component. But, really, it’s all about the chew with this one.
There’s a definite emphasis on the caramel here, as it greatly outweighs the thinner layers of chocolate. So those who are looking for more of a marriage between the two will likely prefer a Milk or Dark Chocolate Caramel Square.
But if you’re like me, and you don’t mind a little bit of chocolate with your caramel 😉 , this has got your name (and mine!) written all over it. I thought it was a great, two-bite treat that was definitely decadent enough to feel larger than the sum of its parts.

Looks delicious! But $4.49 is a bit steep for a treat so small.
Essie says
I agree with Megan. Enough is enough on the prices. Just because you can get it for ‘free’ with the DDP snack credit, doesn’t really justify overpricing it! That said, I could NEVER pick a favorite at that shop. Everything is wonderful!

Have to agree with Essie & Megan that it’s pretty pricey to pay out of pocket and doesn’t seem to be great DDP snack value either…
There again as we often stump up the cash for the gooey caramel marshmallow one, no doubt we’ll be trying it next time around anyway, in the name of research of course. =D
