Since my sister and brother-in-law are DVC members, I have been lucky to visit several Disney hotels. I would rank of the places I’ve stayed at in the below order….
1. Yacht Club – I LOVE that it is walking distance to Epcot (and Hollywood Studios although it’s a bit of a longer walk) as well as the other Epcot resorts. Very nice rooms.
2. Dolphin – like it for the same reason as Yacht Club but it’s not Disney owned so it loses some magic for me
3. Bay Lake/Contemporary – I like the rooms (but the one bathroom in the 2 bedroom villa is hard to lock) and it is nice to walk to Magic Kingdom but when we got to Epcot it’s a pain. Taking the monorail to the TTC and then going down the ramp and then back up the ramp (especially pushing a wheelchair) is a real pain. I wish there was an easier way.
4. Wilderness Lodge – love the hotel; so peaceful but not as close to the parks
5. Grand Floridian Villas – gorgeous villas, but not as convenient to transportation as other hotels
6. Saratoga Springs- nice but not close to the parks
All nice hotels and these are certainly small critiques but for me closeness to the parks is the most important

Animation seemed overpriced and crowded, All-star Movies is similar themed, better priced and everyone is friendly. The best for us is Riverside. Great atmosphere, a very laid back resort. The kids will love either the Serpent slide or the new kids area at the pool. The only problem we had the was the food court. The waite for a simple cheeseburger kids meal was about 15 minutes plus. They even forgot to make it one time. The other parts were much better, no complaints.

Spot on for your #1, AJ! I also love, #2 & 3 and AoA! I’d love to try BC sometime and I’ve always enjoyed the CBR for it’s beautiful theming, but the food is just okay.

I lived in Fort Lauderdale my entire life, was 4 years old when Disney World opened and have 6 older siblings so naturally have been to WDW many many times — probably more than 100. The Contemporary was the coolest in the ’70’s but now makes me a little sad that it’s no longer futuristic except in an old sci-fi sort of way. I wish they’d update it with more than the addition of Bay Lake Tower. We do love the California Grill, but there is no resort more beautiful than the Grand Floridian. It, however, is just too expensive, so the Yacht & Beach have been my favorites since the early ’90’s. I have to say the Boardwalk Inn used to bore me a bit but is now equal to Yacht & Beach, maybe because I’m older. I love it so much. It may be the most charming with that same great location there so near Epcot and even closer to the Boardwalk. They have no restaurant at the Inn but do have the cozy Bellevue Lounge and are closest and attached to Flying Fish, an easy walk to Yacht & Beach and of course Swan & Dolphin with all their terrific restaurants.

We love Port Orleans French Quarter. We spent our honeymoon there and have gone back since. It’s small, which we really like, and we love the boat to Downtown Disney (Disney Springs). Our next trip we are staying at Coronado. I have mixed feelings about it–but POFQ AND POFR were booked, and discount code for Coronado.
