Our favorite Friar is serving up a new menu of LOADED TATER TOTS — with a Fried Twinkie for dessert! — at Friar’s Nook!
And “nook” is definitely the operative word in the name of this tiny Fantasyland Counter Service spot, which you’ll find in the shadow of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It’s basically a row of counters with some general tables just outside where guests can also eat their ice cream from Storybook Treats.
So, it was surprising when this little spot started serving up some BIG dishes, like the newly retired Barbecue Chicken Mac and Cheese. Suddenly, this humble little kiosk was totally on the radar.
And now it’s right back up there with a brand new menu of LOADED TOTS!!!
It’s your choice of Loaded Greek Tots, Fiesta Tots, and Buffalo Chicken Tots. And to help you narrow it down, we’re trying them all for you!
With a nod to the Friar, let’s tuck in. (Get it? Friar Tuck? One of my all-time favorites! Anyhoo….)
First up: the Loaded Buffalo Chicken Tots are topped with Buffalo chicken (of course!), chopped celery, bleu cheese crumbles, and a bit of garlic ranch dressing. The same salty, crispy tater tots make up the base of each dish.
Now, the Buffalo Chicken is packed with some pretty good flavor; that said, it wasn’t overly hot. So, that’s good news for those who are averse to hot spice, but those who love that buffalo sauce kick will probably be disappointed.
The nice thing is that you can still enjoy this one even if it’s hot out.
Second: the Loaded Fiesta Tots are loaded with ground beef chili, tomatoes, peppers, queso, and jalapeños.
While the jalapenos deliver some heat, if the chili and queso had any spiciness, it wasn’t at all noticeable.
Again, the flavor itself was solid; it just lacked that zip from any additional spice (which is either good or bad news for you, depending on your tolerance).
And finally, the Loaded Greek Tots are topped with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions, banana peppers, olives, and feta cheese.
The good news? That tzatziki is pretty terrific; packed with great, cooling flavor.
The bad news is that, in comparison to the Fiesta and Buffalo Chicken Tots, the Greek Tater Tots are a lot less “loaded.”
For that reason, the Fiesta and Buffalo Chicken Tots offer up the most flavor. I feel like this could be an easy fix, though.
And now, for dessert! The Fried Twinkie is topped with your choice of vanilla, caramel, strawberry, or chocolate sauce. It’s pictured below in the background of the Tots with strawberry.
But, hey, we wanted to sample them all, so back we went and made a special request for all the sauces to be drizzled on the Twinkie, which was granted!
I have to say, I found the outside shell to be a little overdone; it was somewhat tough to cut into the Twinkie.
But the cake inside was still impressively soft, with the melted cream center adding to the nice “gooey factor” overall.
From a taste perspective, the extra flavor from the fryer (not to be confused with the Friar) delivers that hint of saltiness to the sweet treat, making it a very fun dessert option.
It does seems that there is a bit lacking in execution of each option on the new menu. But, it is the very first day, after all, so there is some definite promise here.
So, having tackled both the Tots and a brand new Rose Gold Ears Cupcake today, we’re signing off from the Magic Kingdom, with many thanks to our ol’ pal, the Friar!!
Oh, any hey… if you’re missing the Mac and Cheese on the menu at Friar’s Nook… well, don’t you worry: there’s plenty more where that came from!

Will you be heading to Friar’s Nook to sample the new Loaded Tots menu or a Fried Twinkie? Please let us know with a comment!

I read in several places the Greek tots were to be topped with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions, banana peppers, olives and feta cheese. It seems like actually adding the tomatoes, onions, and feta would greatly improve the flavor of those tots. Sigh. Those were the ones I was looking forward to the most.

Two out of three tater tot meals are spicy. Most children cannot tolerate spicy. But children love tater tots. Why can’t they have cheeseburger tater tots or pizza tater tots? The kids would love them 😀 If you going to serve fancy tater tots at Magic Kingdom. Make it something children would like.

My dad will want to know…Can you order plain tater tots with nothing on them? He cannot do anything spicy.

We have been boycotting Friars Nook since the got rid of the Pot Roast MAC and Cheese. Maybe we will have to give it another try.

I am sad to see that the Mac&Cheese has been retired from this location. It was the best we have EVER had, anywhere!!

Got the Twinkie today and it was really good. They apparently aren’t allowing multiple sauces anymore, though. I tried to order two and the cast member yelled out to the cashier “No special orders! They have to choose one!”, which I thought was a bit much.

Never would have thought tater tots could be part of a Greek dish 🙂 But of course anything goes at Disney. Hope the Greek version comes more loaded next time!
