Happy Thursday! We’re back with another DFB Video today, and we’re discussing the pros and cons of Disney World transportation.
There is much more to Disney World than four theme parks. It’s a huge property with several Resorts, a shopping and dining district (that’s Disney Springs), two water parks, and more. So something every guest needs to consider is how to get around all of it! And this is an especially big topic these days in light of the recent addition of parking fees for guests staying at Disney World resorts. We’re discussing that topic and also how to get around if you choose to rely on Disney transportation at some point (or for all) of your vacation.
And if you love this video, there’s plenty more for you to enjoy over on our DFB YouTube Channel!

I don’t like the resort parking fees. I never have a car, but the hotel prices are steep enough. I love the monorail, boats and I’m anxious for the skytrams, but I like the buses, also. The drivers are usually nice, some are funny and some play trivia games. We’ve had drivers who gave us transportation and safety collecting cards and buttons, that little extra touch of Disney magic!

I love being able to use Disney transportation while I’m on property. However, a LOT of us live close enough to Orlando that to get to Disney in the first place we drive. It feels like a punishment for everyone who doesn’t fly in and take Magical Express and it isn’t right.

I am really surprised they raised the prices on the Minnie Vans. I hadn’t realized they did that. I didn’t think the Minnie Vans were that popular. I liked the Minnie Vans a lot the last couple of times I visited, but the $20 price was so high compared to a regular Uber or Lyft that it was the sort of thing we would only really use to go out for a nice dinner at one of the other resorts or something like that. Now that’s it’s $25, I think they may have priced us out of using it entirely.
I don’t generally take a car to Disney, so I won’t be personally affected by the parking price increase. I thought a possible reason for this move on Disney’s part was to try to decrease traffic before the anticipated Star Wars opening. They’ve already extended a lot of on-site perks like the 60-day fastpass window to non-Disney resorts (presumably anticipating that on-site hotels will be booked up and wanting to encourage people to still come, but stay off site). I think we’ll be seeing a lot of moves toward crowd control over the next couple of years as Galaxy’s Edge opens. Probably a lot fewer discounts will be out and a lot of other prices will increase.
My intention is to just wait it out. I love Disney, but I can travel other places for a year or two while the parks are full of new guests excited about Star Wars. After a while, the hype will die down, discounts will start to come back, and eventually there will probably be special hotel rates that have things like “parking included”.

I don’t mind the parking charge to be honest, I think they did it because a LOT of people who were not staying at the resort would park there and take a bus over to a park so that they didn’t have to pay for parking. This took out a lot of the parking in front of hotels if you needed it. I just stayed at the Polynesian and they actually didn’t end up charging us parking even though they said it was there. I don’t know if it was a mistake or a courtesy with it being a celebration. I’m local and still stay quite often, I’ll take the parking fee to keep my car safe because they take down your drivers license and the make and model of your car now.
