The Tambu Lounge in Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort is a well-loved spot. Known for cocktails like the Lapu Lapu (served in a pineapple) and the Backscratcher as well as single servings of ‘Ohana’s famous Bread Pudding, it’s not a Disney vacation for many guests without a stop at this little cove.
But change is coming to Tambu Lounge. According to Tikiman’s Unofficial Polynesian Resort Pages on Facebook, Tambu will close after the 4th of July and will remain closed for about two months. This temporary closure will result in an expansion to the lounge to add another well for a barterer, and also add a side station for a cocktail server.
During the closure, a temporary bar will be set up to serve ‘Ohana and walk-up guests, but no bar seating will be available. Other options for grabbing a drink at the Polynesian include the Barefoot Pool Bar, the Oasis Bar & Grill, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace.
We say a fond “Aloha” — for a little while — to Tambu Lounge!

While I really do appreciate this blog and I think the article is well-written… I have to call out this headline as being intentionally misleading and click-baitey. When I saw the headline, I couldn’t believe it, I was upset and then I discovered that the reality isn’t quite what it seemed to be. In this age of alternate facts and subjective reality, I would hope that we could be a little more forthright in all reporting, even that of theme park news. I know now that articles from this site will be subject to scrutiny and disbelief until confirmed.

When we saw your headline “Tambu Lounge in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Closing This Summer” we almost had a heart attack! Given that we got our first Lapu-Lapu here (for free!) the night I proposed to Robin on the beach at the Poly during Wishes, and have had many more since, we were devistated to think that this location would be closing!
In the future, for our cardiac health, please put the word “temporarily” in the headline whenever you report a temporary location closing. You damn near killed us LOL.

A “barterer well”??? Here, can we trade one of our children for that awesome bread pudding. Lol!

we love that little lounge… but it is sorely in need oven refurbishment! Glad they’re on it so it will be comfortable and enjoyable for more people.

funny story… last August when we were there, they served my (12 year old) daughter an *actual* Lapu Lapu. We got a nice table at Ohana for the fireworks and our meal comped for the trouble 🙂

Looks like Walt, a long time Tambu bartender will get some time of.

Why would they close down to do this in the summer months. Honestly makes no sense
Del says
Thanks for that info, we were planning on trying the bread pudding there. Where can you get the famous bread pudding now besides Ohana?
DFB Sarah says
Del, at present, ‘Ohana will be the only option. We’ll have to see if the temporary bar offers it or not!

Whew, glad they are not closing permanently. Have loved the Lapu Lapu’s for years and years
Miss when you could sip and watch the fireworks from the lounge but now some trees have hidden the view 🙁 wish they would relocate them.
And do you still get the back scratcher and glass Parrott ?
Hope they make it look awesome and update
Joni says
Me again, forgot to ask if you can still get the Lapu Lapu’s at Ohana’s And Kona Cafe while they are closed ???
JET says
The reason they haven’t revealed is because of the poor maintenance of the bar — resulting in mold, bugs and other… things. The bar is definitely showing its age and disney not properly keeping up with its older properties.
Yes, temporary and a lot of the Full time bartenders will be forced elsewhere unwillingly.
JET says
I can’t figure out how to do individual replies to comments, but the Lapu Lapu will be available at both restaurants (Kona and ‘Ohana) still as the service bar for both restaurants is separate from the actual bar that is closing.
For the bread pudding, try asking your server at Kona if you don’t plan to do the all-you-can-eat fare since both share a kitchen.

I didn’t have a problem with the article’s heading.
