We never turn down an opportunity to visit Walt Disney World’s Epcot, and one of our favorite Epcot activities is checking out the new eats. 😉 Refreshment Port, located on the path between World Showcase and Future World, is a convenient spot to grab a quick bite.
We were pretty thrilled when Refreshment Port introduced the Canada Pavilion’s Cheddar Cheese Soup and Cheddar Cheese Soup Poutine in January, but the menu has seen a little re-boot!
Guests can still get their hands on some Signature Poutine — a version that is made with Canadian Cheddar and Bacon Sauce (a/k/a Cheddar Cheese Soup!) — and on the popular Croissant Doughnut.
And the Stowaway Mary? We loved this drink that came with chicken nuggets, but even this crazy concoction didn’t survive the latest update — not exactly.
The Stowaway Mary now comes with a Jumbo Shrimp and a stick of Beef Jerky. How’s that for a funky new look (and taste!)?
But I was pretty excited to find Traditional Poutine on the menu now! This classic is a pile of French Fries, some Brown Gravy, and squeaky Cheese Curds — totally traditional elements of Quebecois poutine.
And it’s as good as it sounds. No bells. No whistles. Just the right elements for a (slightly heavy) delicious snack!
My only critique here was that the cheese curds are super cold, so even though the gravy is SUPER hot, it can’t make the curds as melty as they should be. The flavors are all there — and really delicious — but the cold cheese curds hurts the dish a bit for sure.
Dear Refreshment Port, we appreciate you. Thanks for bringing us some convenient Traditional Poutine, fried dough, alcohol with beef jerky in it, and cheddar cheese in liquid form. 😉

When we were there last week, we ordered the “signature” poutine to share because we love making that cheddar soup at home in the cooler months. My teenage son loved it so much he went back for another order so he could have it all to himself.

YES! I couldn’t get over the cold cheese curds. It was like that with the soup poutine and It just messed it up for me. The flavor was good, the biting into a cold piece wasn’t good at all. 🙁 I wish there was a way around that.

Can you still get just the soup without the fries?

So you can’t get a cup of the cheddar soup at Refreshment Port anymore? Hopefully that’s just in preparation for the Food & Wine kiosks opening in late Aug!

I guess the cold cheese curds are a personal preference. I like my poutine with the cheese curd still solid, and a bit cool. IMHO the best part is the contrast – fries that are crisp, hot gravy, and cool creamy cheese curds. Having soent many summers there, never find melted cheese on poutine in Montreal or Quebec.

Chris, it’s not on the menu, but since they do still have the soup on hand for the Signature Poutine, you could ask!

I had the traditional poutine at the beginning of the month. Was good but would agree that it would have been better if the curds were a little more melty. Overall, a nice use of a snack credit.
