Port Orleans French Quarter Resort
has been home to several discoveries this past summer including Mickey-Shaped Beignets in Sassagoula Floatworks Food Court and Boozy Beignets at Scat Cats Club. And not to be left out, Saratoga Springs’ Artist’s Palette asked us to “choose them” with an Alien Dessert recently.
Our newest update from these resorts has to do with their Pizzas.
While at the Pizza and Pasta Shop window at Sassagoula one of our DFB readers learned that they are no longer offering the French Quarter Pizza. Further investigation found Sassagoula has a new chef, and under their new direction, may be switching to fresh dough versus frozen dough pizza. Currently, the only pizza options available are a meat or veggie pizza. A new Pizza menu is promised “soon”.
We stopped in over at Saratoga Springs and found out some very similar information. In fact – we even caught some chefs in the act of making fresh dough on premises, which may mean that frozen pizzas are no more!
After seeing this we had to try one of these new pizzas and opted for the Cheeseburger Thin-Crust Pie. Come on, it combines two of our favorites – pizza and a cheeseburger!
This is a loaded pizza – ground beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard and mayo! After admiring this we had to dig in!
Look at the amount of toppings on this! The pizza dough held up to all of these toppings and wasn’t soggy at all!
We could really tell the difference between this new fresh pizza dough and the frozen pizza that we’re used to having at resorts before. We are excited to see this change.
And pizza isn’t just for lunch or dinner any more! On the menu is a Breakfast Thin Crust Pie made up of Scrambled Eggs, Sausage Gravy, Crumbled Bacon and Cheese. We think it just got a lot easier to face the morning with that option!
Lunch or dinner also include a Caprese, or Chicken, Artichoke and Spinach Thin Crust Pie in addition to the Cheeseburger Pie – and all on the new fresh pizza dough. The Daily Special will change each day.
We understand changes or limited availability in the transition from frozen to fresh can put a cramp in dining plans, but are pretty excited about the potential move. What do you think?

Any idea if they will be changing to fresh dough elsewhere? About time! Can’t wait.

S, we’re going to keep an eye out to see!

Any idea if there is any soy in the dough? Also if it is proofed in a bowl with soybean oil? Thanks

Yum! Fresh dough sounds (and looks) so much better than the frozen stuff! Thanks for the report! I hope we see more resorts offering this soon!

This pizza is hot garbage!! Try this pizza with just cheese or pepperoni then you will understand. Fresh dough was a good idea but changing the pepperoni sauce and cheese was a complete mistake. Add more then five different toppings to the pizza if you want to be able to attempt at consuming it. The sauce was bland with chunks of onions that were soggy with no texture.the cheese was worse quality then the 99 cent off-brand cheese at Walmart. this cheese was soggy and bland. Might as well go outside and and pick up animals feces and spread it across the top. Not only this pizza is worse then a store bought frozen pizza I think also made me sick! I had a upset stomach for the rest of the day. In conclusion this pizza NEEDS to be featured on a “Kitchen Nightmares”.

I was so disappointed with this at French quarter as a cheese pizza that I actually took it back and got a refund!! Since I stay often 2 weeks later I stayed at movies and they had done the same thing last week stayed at pop same pizza it’s horrible and a manager on duty that was wonderful and helpful at French quarter agreed she like the frozen better, we’ve been eating the frozen for 15 years at least once a month but this new “fresh” pizza is garbage but we only had cheese on it I imagine if you threw enough toppings on it you wouldn’t know.
