Good morning from the reimagined World of Disney Store in Disney Springs!
The centerpiece store — and still the world’s largest — carries every type of Disney merchandise you can imagine, and it’s long been a popular stop for Disney World guests looking for the perfect souvenir to remember their Disney World vacations.
And — like the rest of Disney Springs — the World of Disney has been undergoing a transformation in keeping with the rest of the remade shopping, dining, and entertainment district for Walt Disney World. And the Grand Reopening is today!
Though sections of the store have been accessible during the refurbishment, now guests can step inside the fully functioning merchandise location.
It brings together the story of Disney Springs as a waterfront Floridian town together with some of the whimsy and Disney magic that the store is known for.
And with that story of the town, comes a story for the store!
World of Disney Story
As it goes, the space once served as a marketplace. After it was abandoned, animators took over the spot and used it as a place to create.
Then, once an actual animation studio opened up, the space was once again abandoned until retailers arrived. And the retailers brought new life back into what was once a thriving community.
The retailers started “peeling back the layers” of the space, revealing elements of the animator’s former creative uses.
That’s why much of the new look is meant to be reminiscent of an animator’s studio, with nods to character animations by Disney Legends, including Walt Disney’s “Nine Old Men.” These tributes come by way of photographs, character sketches, craftsman desks, and more.
Most specifically, you’ll find many of these details throughout one of the large cashier checkout areas.
World of Disney Reusable Bags
Speaking of cashier areas, you’ll find plenty of World of Disney Reusable Bags available for purchase.
Though they are not currently required to use (as plastic bags are still available), they are in keeping with the Disney company’s goal of significantly reducing single-use plastics across Disney destinations worldwide.
World of Disney Setup
The general flow of the store is much more open now, with the goal of making the space easier to navigate with brighter “architectural clues” helping guests know which way to go.
Additionally, the more open concept helps the store to be more stroller and wheelchair friendly.
In the center area of the store, a large skylight provides lots of natural light to further brighten the space.
Mickey Mouse Club Collection
Just last week, we took a tour of some of the sections that were newly operating prior to today’s Grand Reopening, including LOTS of new merchandise for the 2018 holiday season, the NEW Mickey Mouse Club merchandise line, and more.
The Mickey Mouse Club Collection, in addition to celebrating Mickey’s 90th Birthday, also helps to launch the store with a tie to Disney’s heritage, making vintage style relevant today. (You can see lots more of these new items here!)
Disney Princesses
But one area that was previously still closed off was the Princess section of the store.
This stunning section displays larger-than-life sketches of the Disney Princesses.
And if you keep looking up, you’ll see that the chandeliers hanging above are made from wands and tiaras!
Keep your eye on the changing projections all around the store, as well.
These “magical moments” help to further set the scene and bring touches of color and enchantment to the store.
More Merchandise!
Plenty of familiar favorites like Mickey and Minnie Mouse Ears, character plush, Disney mugs, and more are — as always — found throughout.
And among all the favorites, we’re still spotting new merchandise!
For instance, the new Redd Pirates of the Caribbean Loungefly Bag is now available.
Graphic tees will be changing frequently and featuring characters not often seen on merchandise.
Favorite characters are represented on gear, games, and accessories throughout the store!
And, of course, favorite COLORS are well represented, too!
So, what’s your pick? What are you hoping to find on your next trip to the World of Disney? And, most of all…
What do you think of the newly reimagined World of Disney store?!

Looks like a warehouse!!
No Disney magic.
What a disgrace to see something so generic that’s supposed to represent Disney.
And they got paid for this???
Shameful

Can you do a tour inside World Of Disney???

Lisa, we had a little sneak peek at the store earlier in the month. Maybe this will give you a better idea of the interior. Hope this helps!

Unpopular opinion for sure — but I actually like the new store. Yes, the old store had that Disney whimsy we all know and love, but truth be told, the old store gave me panic attacks. It was so … cluttered. I would constantly get lost. I never knew where the heck the registers were. I could imagine how easy it would be to lose a kid in there. Maybe the ability to get lost inside was what most people loved about it, but it was overwhelming for me. I’m glad to see it a bit more organized and less chaotic, even if that means giving up some of the magic. It is just a shop, after all — it’s not like they did this to one of the classic rides or something.

Sorry, but just not a fan of the new store. Went in, walked around, and left without purchasing anything. It’s lost the fun that made it worth visiting on my trips to Disney World. Have no desire to go back.

I’d love to see it in-person, and will wait to form a definite opinion until I see it IRL. But my first impression is that it already looks dated — and it’s brand-new! That weathered brick and dark wood reminds me of friends’ houses when I was a kid in the 80’s. And the neon script writing over merchandise shelves looks weirdly 80’s too — I’m just not sure what aesthetic they were trying for here. A warm warehouse? An inviting coffeeshop? Unfortunately, they seem to have hit the sweet spot of a mid-priced hotel’s convenience area. Like, am I in World of Disney or the quickie mart section of a Comfort Inn? 😉 I hope that it feels more “special” in-person, and I do understand that there are practical considerations that undoubtedly went into this redesign. My first impression is not great though.

World of Disney is just following their trend of making everything new generic and unmagical. I saw part of the revamped store in August and knew it was going this way. While I do appreciate the more open spaces, it’s no longer an attraction in and of itself. I remember taking my children into this store for the first time and we were all in awe at the bigger than life characters and magic. Now it’s just merch. So sad Disney is constantly giving less and taking more.

Can’t wait to see it next week on our trip from Colorado. Love the displays of the Princess merchandise. The colors are beauticious.
