As we continue to celebrate the past 90 years with Mickey Mouse, we also look forward to all the upcoming adventures the Disney Parks have to offer! And today while we’re LIVE at the D23 Destination D: Celebrating Mickey Mouse event with Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek, we have news about more Disney magic on the way to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort!
Let’s start with something HUGE coming to BOTH Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and let’s waste no time!!
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
will open in Disneyland in the summer of 2019 and Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in late fall 2019. And we now know the names of possibly the two most highly anticipated attractions in Disney’s history!
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will allow guests to take control of the Millennium Falcon in “one of three unique and critical roles.”
CHECK IT OUT!!!
will bring guests right into an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance…
… including a “face-off with Kylo-Ren!”
Both attractions will feature optional integration with the Play Disney Parks app to enhance the experience.
And here’s a further look into some of the atmosphere — including creatures and dining options such as Oga’s Cantina and the upcoming dinner show — that will make up the incredibly immersive land!
Oh, and a little something called… BLUE MILK!!!
We also learned that John Williams will be scoring the music for Galaxy’s Edge! It will be all-new and original, and you can see part of the work that goes into the creation here.
Walt Disney World
STAR WARS RESORT
Bob Chapek also provided a bit more of a glimpse into the Star Wars Resort coming to Walt Disney World!
The Resort remains in development, but the timetable for opening will be after Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens (and the Resort will have its own direct entrance into the land).
Here’s a peek at the entrance… which seems like the last time you’ll see anything resembling a regular ol’ car for a while after entering the Resort 🙂 .
See what I mean?
According to Disney, “From the moment you board your launch pod, it’s a fully-immersive, multi-day Star Wars adventure aboard a luxury starship complete with high-end dining, space-view cabins and all of the exciting action you would expect from an authentic Star Wars experience.”
HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS
Wonderful World of Animation
Bob Chapek also announced this morning that an all-new cinematic nighttime experience, the “Wonderful World of Animation,” will debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in May 2019! This will be part of celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Hollywood Studios.
The show will “use state-of-the-art projection technology to take guests on a magical journey through more than 90 years of Disney animation, all beginning with Mickey himself.”
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Progress continues on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
Here’s just a small peek at some concept art for this upcoming fun adventure, which will feature Mickey in a full ride-through attraction for the first time!
EPCOT
Two New Nighttime Spectaculars
The long-running nighttime spectacular, IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth will be wrapping its run in 2019. And now we have more details on what’s to follow!
As part of Epcot’s multi-year transformation, a brand new spectacular featuring massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and lasers is on the way in 2020.
The production will celebrate how Disney music inspires people around the world, and will include moments with beloved characters.
Again, this show will make its debut in 2020.
So in the meantime, “Epcot Forever” will make its debut in 2019.
This limited-time show will be presented featuring “classic Epcot tunes!” Think Tomorrow’s Child, and Universe of Energy, my friends!!
New Pavilion Experiences
It was also revealed that the name for the highly anticipated Ratatouille ride coming to the France Pavilion will be Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
Also in the France Pavilion, a new Beauty and the Beast singalong created by Don Hahn (producer of the animated and live-action “Beauty and the Beast” films) will join the “Impressions de France” film as the Pavilion’s entertainment.
And the O Canada Circlevision 360-degree show will be receiving an update, currently in progress.
DISNEY SKYLINER
Check out Mickey’s proud look at the gondolas for the new Disney Skyliner, which will begin transporting guests between Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and four Disney World Resorts in fall of 2019!
REFLECTIONS
Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge
was revealed as the name for the deluxe, nature-inspired resort coming to Disney World.
This Resort will present more than 900 hotel rooms and proposed Disney Vacation Club villas.
Disney’s Riviera Resort
We’ve also got a look at Disney’s Riviera Resort, slated to open in fall of 2019.
Riviera Resort’s design is “inspired by the European grandeur Walt Disney experienced in his travels along the Mediterranean coastline.”
Disneyland
Get Your Ears On — A Mickey and Minnie Celebration
Get Your Ears On — A Mickey and Minnie Celebration
