Jambo from Harambe Village in Animal Kingdom’s Africa! More specifically, Jambo from Harambe Market!
A menu change has come to this Counter Service spot. The latest update brings a variety of Bowls to the scene, along with a Chicken Gyro to complement the Beef and Lamb Gyro option.
Your choices for the Bowls are Ribs, Chicken, and Roasted Vegetable.
No matter which you order, they’re all served with cilantro rice, salad greens, and salsa.
Of the two meat options, the Chicken Bowl’s grilled chicken stood out the most in flavor with its pleasant seasoning.
This was surprising in that you typically don’t expect ribs to be bland.
But, unfortunately, the Ribs Bowl was exactly that.
Even the salsa doesn’t do much to bring a punch to either dish.
The Roasted Vegetable Bowl is the tastiest of the three thanks to the variety of veggies in the mix which included cauliflower, squash, chickpeas, zucchini, and onion and the refreshing dressing.
That said, the previous way Harambe Market served roasted veggies was the Roasted Vegetable Stack, which was simply a better dish.
The current plating relies too much on the light sides, where the Vegetable Stack put the emphasis on getting lots of those veggies.
And while we’re comparing… it’s really hard not to compare the Bowl entrees here at Harambe Market with the Satu’li Bowls at Satu’li Canteen. And those Satu’li Bowls win over the Harambe versions by a mile. Not only are they customizable (with your choice of base and sauce), but the meat at Satu’li Canteen is much more flavorful. So, unfortunately, we’re going to have to give the new Bowls at Harambe Market a pass.

My family visited Disney’s Animal Kingdom yesterday too, and we stopped at the Harambe Market for lunch. I was pleased with the veggie bowl but the meat-eaters in my family were not. Ribs were too dry, as was the beef and lamb gyro. It seems this restaurant can’t seem to hit the nail on the head.

Animal Kingdom has always been the shinning star of WDW Counter Service. From the day Flametree opened we were hooked. Then came the Harmbee Market as a new favorite. Flametree changed up their salad and things just weren’t as good so we continued to go to Harmbee. On our last visit we saw the Flatbread turned to gyro. So disappointed. The ribs at Harmbee also seemed to be a much lower quality than before.
We really enjoyed the pods in Pandora, but have also seen them go away.
Disney seemed to have experimented to the benefit of guests at AK. But now their counter service is getting just as hum-drum as the rest of WDW.
It’s disappointing.
