There are several new ways you can start your day in Animal Kingdom’s Africa thanks to Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery!
Four new items have made their way to the breakfast menu: a Cheese and Guava Danish, a Pistachio Honey Croissant, a Sausage Egg and Cheese Biscuit, and a Spinach and Feta Quiche.
You’ll still find other assorted pastries available like muffins, croissants, and the like, along with different flavored pastries. The Colossal Cinnamon Roll remains, but the Hot Breakfast Wrap (which had some big fans, including yours truly) has been removed.
On this rainy morning in Animal Kingdom, we tried three of the new items.
The Pistachio Honey Croissant is like a breakfast Baklava with a buttery croissant instead of phyllo dough.
Because the breading is obviously more prominent with the croissant, it does keep the emphasis there over the light honey glaze and small dusting of pistachios. It basically elevates your basic croissant with some lesser found flavors.
The same can be said of the Cheese and Guava Danish, only with different flavors, obviously, and a leaning towards the sweet tooths out there. It takes your standard breakfast cheese danish and adds a generous swirl of guava paste together with the sweet cream cheese. Here at Kusafiri, it’s also drizzled over with icing.
This tropical touch really serves to brighten the flavor of the danish to give it a little something special, and its always a great flavor combo.
The all-savory option here (aside from the also-new Sausage Egg and Cheese Biscuit) is the Spinach and Feta Quiche.
Opinions will be mixed here, as some may feel like the enormous amount of pastry crust cheats them out of the filling a bit.
Possibly others, though (like me), feel like the curst is the best part of any quiche or pie, so all of THIS…
… was all right with me! Both the filling flavors and that of the crust comes together really well, with bits of pepper lending further variety to the spinach and feta. The whole thing is a nicely golden brown.
Truly yummy. My one disappointment was with the overall portion. Even with the dense ingredients and ample crust making a hearty dish, I rather miss the sheer huge portion of the previous Hot Breakfast Wrap when considering fueling up for the day.
It’s fun to see more variety and flavor experimentation, though, on the morning menu at Kusafiri. The prime real estate right by one of the park’s main attractions makes this a natural stop when the hunger hits, so consider stopping by before getting ready for your next travels on Kilimanjaro Safaris!
