Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is home to ‘Ohana, a spot is known for its character breakfast in the mornings and its all-you-care-to-enjoy feast in the evenings featuring grilled meats accompanied by pork dumplings and chicken wings, all followed up with ‘Ohana Bread Pudding.
One of the traditional accompaniments to the meal has also been lo mein noodles tossed in a teriyaki sauce – which have been the center of some controversy the past couple of days.
As is always the case when a potential ‘Ohana menu change is rumored (see previous menu updates here, here, and here), folks are upset and nervous. This time around, it’s those noodles that are in the mix. Some guests, rather than receiving the noodles, have received a side of curry fried rice instead, as evidenced by this picture shared with us here at DFB from @dislovefromMN on Twitter.
We’ve heard different information from different guests: some have been told that this is simply a test dish for three days. Some have chimed in that the noodles are now back after a testing phase for the fried rice.
We’ve spoken with Cast Members at the Polynesian who have reported BOTH that the noodles are safe, and that fried rice has a shot. As of yesterday, the noodles still show up on the official Disney menu online.
BUT as of this morning, the official Disney menu online shows fried rice.
So, basically, nothing is official except that ‘Ohana was testing a new menu item — curry fried rice — and that lots of folks are mad about it. Judging by the outcry about the noodles on our social media channels, we’d probably advise ‘Ohana to just leave the noodles and BACK. AWAY. SLOWLY. ‘Cause there seem to be some verrrry angry noodle fans out there.
Me? I’m still waiting for them to bring back the potatoes from, like, 10 years ago.
The coming days will hopefully reveal more information, and we’ll keep you posted on the status once we hear more!

Personally, I’d rather have the rice.. hopefully they will begin offering both.

As of 2019/01/07, the online menu https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/polynesian-resort/ohana/menus/dinner/ has been changed to show “Fried Rice” as the accompaniment for dinner. #BringBackTheNoodles
Tina says
As of this morning it’s actaully Fried Rice on their online menu.
Sarah says
We have a reservation for February so I will need to keep an eye out for more information from you. Honestly I will probably cancel my reservation if the noddle are gone, that rice does not appeal to me at all.
DFB Sarah says
Thanks, Tina! We saw that, too!
Cindy says
Our reservation is this Saturday night! Without the noodles my son will not have much to eat. We will cancel if the rice remains. VERY disappointing. I will be watching closely…
Melly says
I was just looking at the menu yesterday and the noodles were listed!
I was going to try ‘Ohana for the first time in November! If the noodles are not on the menu, I’ll be looking for a different dinner option. That rice just not appeal to me at all.
Luckily, I have time to keep eye on the menus.
DISNEYFANFOREVEVER says
Disney would be smart to offer a choice of either or even both for larger parties who have different tastes.
Lisa Griffin says
No! No! No!
Bellamouse says
So glad to have rice! Can’t have noodles or bread pudding so we are happy. Now we’re waiting for the fresh pineapple and caramel sauce to come back instead of bread pudding…. I won’t hold my breath ?
DFB Sarah says
Melly, unfortunately the menu changed overnight (literally!). But it’s not unusual for menu items to revert back after guest response…
Roberta Witt says
The change to rice is disappointing. My family would definitely prefer noodles. #noodlesrule #ricesomundane
Suzy mccabe says
I hate curry so a Defo no for me this year !!! Love the noodles
Also hope our ohana experience better than last year where apart from the pudding everything was served at once and even when I asked for a break before the pudding the bill had arrived and we were out within 25 minute !!!
Diane says
Rice? No way! The noodles are so good and a more unique side item. The rice in the picture does not look good to me. I have a reservation the end of March and I’ll be disappointed if the noodles aren’t on the menu. On a side note, I did enjoy the lettuce cups that they were trying to substitute for the salad several years ago so I understand them giving some items a try.
Erin says
The rice looks good. I’m not a big fan of noodles, but I wouldn’t let one of the side dishes stop me from eating a meal I otherwise enjoy. I’d go with the noodles and not eat them, or I’d go with the rice and likely enjoy it. If the noodles or rice was the most important part of my meal, I’d probably skip going there entirely, because that’s an expensive plate of noodles that I could make myself.
Margot says
Why can’t they offer all 3? AJ’s potatoes (never had them – intrigued as I am a potato person), noodles and rice. They offer multiple meats, why not multiple sides? Not like the menu is so huge they’d have trouble adding something. Although I guess there may be kitchen restrictions I don’t know about…
Dawnh16 says
Why not keep the noodles and offer rice as an alternative for those who can’t have the gluten? I’m guessing the rice is cheaper which is pretty much what drives all decisions 🙂
Ana says
Nooooooooo!! Using this as a Celebration/Carbo load Saturday after the half before the full ?
Patricia C says
BRING BACK THE NOODLES!! Keep the rice for those who request it or are gluten free instead.
Sarah says
I just looked online at the menu and for some reason I’m still seeing the noodles, anyone else?
Rj says
What are they going to do for people who dislike curry ?
Beth says
We have a reservation to try O’hana for the first time in april. The one thing I know my sister will eat is the noodles. if they keep the rice we will have to cancel our reservation. I think the best option would be to offer both and ask which the table wants before it is brought out. Hope they bring back the noodles
Laura says
Had noodles tonight.
Robin Gorrell says
I agree with Bellamouse. Bring back the fresh pineapple with warm caramel sauce. and I’m good with noodles or rice.
Jamie says
I wish there could be both! I can’t eat the noodles, but know they’re a favorite!
Disneytimes20 says
Won’t be doing O’Hana without the noodles. Don’t care for curry. Spent a month in Hawaii and didn’t see curry fried rice anywhere. Leave well enough alone Disney.
Kellie says
The noodle are the BEST. My family hates curry. I am taking my Dad to Walt Disney World In May. It will be his first visit to ‘Ohana. It is all we have been talking about. Our is trip going to be food feast with some rides thrown in. If ‘Ohana does not keep the noodles on the menu we will cancel our reservations. The noodles are amazing. Curry is very limiting. Regular fried rice would be better than curried fried rice. I would be very interested in trying the potatoes.
Alex Lopez says
The menu currently has the noodles on the menu. I complained when Le Cellier ditched the burger, but I will absolutely riot if the noodles disappear. They are the GOAT
Ren says
It will be much easier to get a reservation if all the noodle lovers cancel 🙂
